The route took us on the Autostrad all the way down, straight down from the Alps to Genoa cutting through the tops of the Tuscan hills. Just as we thought we were finished with tunnels we were dropping right down to the coast where the steep mountains hit the sea and Italian towns blossom in the gaps in between.
