Holiday Inn Resort Aruba

Aruba is a short 20 minutes airplane ride from Curacao. It was also part of the Netherlands Antilles, but is now independent. I'm a bit confused at the official status, but still has some Dutch influence. We spent 3 days here for our honeymoon. I can't say that it was the perfect honeymoon, but I did enjoy our last few days on the beach. We stayed …

Aruba is mainly known for beach resorts and casinos and I just spent a day there because this was my connecting destination to Central America.

I imagined it as a zoo, but really these animals were being raised as food, and it was a little creepy visiting them. They were in nice big open pens, coupled up with usually 1 female and 2 males per pen. There was a lot of *cough* "Coupling" happen and Barrett had his first real-life birds and bees experience at this place. "Mommy? What ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Resort Aruba Palm/Eagle Beach
We stayed at Holiday Inn Sunspree on July 8-15, 2003. I had already booked with Holiday Inn because of the inexpensive price before I read the reviews on Trip Advisor. I'm sad to say that most of the negative reviews are true about this hotel. Just to give you a perspective, my husband and I are in early-thirties with two children that we did not bring. We arrived at 4 pm on Tuesday and although this was the regular check-in time, we had to wait 20-25 minutes even though we were third in line. I would imagine that more staff would be present for check-in.
Great value for money at Holiday Inn
A group of 10 of us, including 4 kids, just spent a week at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Aruba. The room was good, service was usually good and friendly, and having a good casino in your own hotel is always a bonus for the grown-ups after the kids are in bed.
The in-hotel stores were useful.
The food was excellent for dinner at the main restaurant, but the buffet lunch and breakfast were definitely slim pickings.
We read some reviews of this hotel which were very negative prior to our trip, and this made us nervous about the trip, but really after having spent a week there we have no idea why those reviewers were so negative. It's not a five star hotel, but nothing is bad, and I see no justification for paying double the money for a marginally nicer hotel.
Great kids vacation July2003
First Aruba is really nice and the people are very friendly. The staf was mostly eager to help and very nice. The rooms were plain and the food rather like Bennigans..which is great for kids and not very exciting. Cheesburgers and chicken tenders.. The beach was perfect for my 10yo who doesnt like big waves, the water was very clear. Alot of activities and eating places all around. The pool was rather plain by comparison to the other hotels.Again my kids like the jet-ski, para-sailing, daytrips and jeep tours. Great for a single parent vacation. Not a real good place for lovers or people who want to spend time alone.
Overall, we very much enjoyed Aruba trip, particularly driving around the island in the little car (we managed to fit all 6 persons in the car)! Dont miss the Natural Pool or the Natural Bridge, they are well worth the effort. The Holiday Inn Sunspree is acceptable (especially at its low price) if you manage to ignore the attitude of almost all of the staff (exception: cleaning staff). Compared to most other resorts that weve been to, the Holiday Inn staff is extraordinarily uncaring, lazy, rude, and unhappy. On check-in there was no line because we arrived ahead of the other vacationers, however, the desk staff made us wait as they were much more interested in trying to flirt with a few young ladies than helping guests check-in. We reserved a non-smoking room, and indicated this at check-in; the check-in staff verified this, then gave both families smoking rooms without informing us! Both families were able to change this to non-smoking the next morning (the morning staff was an exception they helped!). At the restaurants just relax and be patient, nobody smiles or moves very quickly! When asking for any help/directions/information from the concierge expect ZERO: they really dont want to be bothered with any guest questions!Meals make sure you reserve your evening meal at the Miramir everyday, it is by far the best food. You need to make your reservation for each evening meal by 8 am that morning or you will miss out the Miramir books-up by about 8:20 am. The morning breakfast buffet is OK, and lunch at the Seabreeze restaurant/bar is also OK. The poolside dinner buffet should be avoided we tried it the first night and it consists of greasy or tasteless foods all the more incentive to make sure you get a Miramir reservation!Rooms there are three buildings -- ask for the Aruba or Bonaire building, not the Curacao. Rooms have plenty of air-conditioning, however, the elevators and some corridors have none (particularly in the Curacao building). Both the Aruba and Bonaire are attached to the main corridor, the Curacao is not quite as convenient. The cleaning staff was very reliable a very stark difference compared to the rest of the staff at the hotel.Other I did quite a bit of Scuba diving it was very nice and inexpensive. Im not sure why it cost so much less in Aruba: it at least equaled most other Caribbean dives that I have made. I used a VisitAruba discount card at Mermaid Divers, but later I found out the Pelican Divers (located onsite at H. Inn) also accepts the discount card.
this was the worst vacation i've been on, whoever likes this hotel or island has never been anywhere else.....it was hitious.......words cannot even express half of my dissipointment.think twice before booking a trip to aruba....where shall i start.......ARRIVAL AT THE HOTEL-(JUNE 19-JUNE 28 2003) we stayed at the holiday inn, when we arrived we were the first in line and were told our room was not going to be ready for 4 hours which was understandable because check in was at 4, however everyone behind us managed to get a room so of course we did not sit silent...after about an hour they managed to slap together a room for us.... ACCOMODATIONS-so we get to our room with a horrible view of the roof, and a man mopping the roof. it was soooooo depressing, the room was literally just quickly tidied up for us, there was "waste" in the toilette, and a used ashtray was in our washroom....we asked for non smoking, and the room and entire floor had this horrible stench.... we were not at all happy with our accomodations or the service we received. we had our room switched to one with a garden view, non smoking......this is not the newest or cleanest hotel, there are much nicer ones on the island. the washroom was unreal the sink, bathtub and toilet all at the same time got clogged on a continual basis, we went an entire day without towels in our washroom....the bed sheets had stains in them....our curtain fell off and was not put back up, and our coffee maker was never cleaned. all throughout the night and afternoon we heard constant banging from the room above us apparently there was a group of roudy kids we had to call the front desk every night and they did not resolve anything, normally they would have been kicked out if this were a first rate hotel, but as u can see it was not. for a few days we had a view of a dirty towel, and beer bottles outside our balcony.FOOD-welll off to eat we went......stay away from the buffet....the food was stale and hard as a rock...looked like it was cooked on the floor.... they do have a la carte restaurants that u need reservations for....food was decent.....but like i said not the cleanest hotel....on several occassions the cuttlery was dirty, plates and cups also.....found something in the bottom of one of my drinks after drinking and chomping on the ice, was given ketchup in a type of gravy boat that was previously used and had food floating in it, when i confronted the host he took the ketchup away and we got up and left without even finishing our meals, the next day i was told" the waiter who gave this to you took it from a baby, and did not think that they had dipped in it" #1 either way i should have been given fresh ketchup, #2 the ketchup used or not should have been disposed of....we were sooooo disgusted we usually travel twice a year but since becoming self employed we havent found the time and after all that we've been through this was the vacation we ended up with.BEACHES-the beaches were very dirty, full of rocks and twigs u could not walk without wearing flip flops, the pool looked very dirty also...there were used bandaids at the edge of the pool and they remained there for quite a while.SERVICE-the service in the hotel was verrry pooooor.....we went an entire meal without drinks. this was the usual routine.... have a seat, wait about 15 minutes for ur server, order drinks, they bring u the menu come back about 10 minutes later with ur drink, then they take ur order, dont return until about and 45min-hour later with your food...and then u dont see them again so basically u eat drinkless while all the waitstaff chitchats .........then when ur ready to leave they chase you out the door to sign ur check because thats the only way they get paid...the wait for drinks was also very lengthy, if u had on a blue wrist band they basically waited on u last.....because they dont expect you to be paying or tipping.one night i asked for new cutlery because mine was dirty....the waitress took my cutlery, my food came 45 minutes later and she never brought me any cutlery.........i had to ask someone else to get me cutlery and they couldnt find any for 5-10 minutes.....i have no clue how this hotel was rated 4 star.WEATHER-the weather was nice very hot, and very windy which was nice because it cooled us down.DEPARTURE-on our departure date we all gathered in the lobby waiting for the bus....nooone put our luggage on the bus for us, we had to do it ourselves, everyone was scrambling, we have travelled alot and have never had an experience like this.way too many bad things went on durring this trip....the only good thing was the shopping downtown....this island is way tooo hyped up...we are self employed have thousands of clients walk through the door each month, our business is related to the travel industry and believe me we will never recommend this hotel to anyone. i had clients waiting for my review.there are much nicer places in the world to go to.please anyone who reads this believe me, this isnt a joke this is 100% true. usually when ur on a vacation u dont want to go home, but on this one we couldnt wait for it to be over.i need anohter vacation to re-cooperate from this one.
Best Value for Your Money !!!
Me and my wife just celebrated our honeymoon in aruba at the holiday inn sunspree resort and casino and it was well worth it ! trust us, you will get the best value for your money ! the grounds are beautifully decorated with flowers. the beach is clean with white sand and aqua green water. the temperature in aruba is perfect at about 82 degress with a cool breeze. the staff was very friendly and professional. the rooms were clean and spacious. and the food was absolutely excellent with many restaurants and bars to choose from. please go all inclusive because otherwise, the price can get expensive ! i rate the hotel a 4 star and definitely will return.
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week in the sun. The Holiday Inn was well worth the price we paid. We book at the last minute, 1 wk prior to departure. We chose to go all-inclusive because the price difference wasn't much. The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff was very friendly. The hallways did have somewhat of a musty smell, but we couldn't smell it in our room. The food was excellent, my husband raved about how fresh the salads were. If you don't like buffets don't go all-inclusive. The only thing that I didn't like was the choice in beer. We could only order Miller Light or their local beer. If you want different beer or top shelf liquor it was extra. The margaritas were the BEST!!! We went on vacation to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather of Aruba and that's what we did! Our stay at the Holiday Inn was a great expeirence and we'd stay again.
If possible stay somewhere else...
If you can stay somewhere else...do so. The price was right but not the hotel nor its beaches. Location is wonderful but I would recommend elsewhere for your visit to Aruba.
Holiday Inn=great times
A very nice hotel. The beach was very clean and one of the largest of any hotel on palm beach. We had a wonderful time, every one was helpful. Only the pool could have been bigger, but i wasnt there for the pool. Of course we didnt do the all-inclusive, because Aruba has some great places to eat. Cant wait to go back!
Holiday Inn - Avoid this so called all-inclusive
Horrible all-inclusive compared to others in the Caribbean. Food terrible and no selection. No activities and entertainment. Surcharges on some food and beverages. Tipping is expected for service. Front desk rude. Pool very small. Cigarette butts and litter on beach. Ocean murky and sea weedy.
