Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Corpus Christi - N. Padre Island

This hotel is very old and showing it. We stayed merely for the great location on the beach. Beware of jellyfish! There are some dead jellyfish washed up on shore. The front desk clerks said they rarely hear of stings, however, my child was stung by a man-o-war (severe reaction) within 10 minutes of being in the water. The staff was helpful providing treatment, but none of my 3 kids would get back in the water. The hotel itself was very disappointing. The small rooms have no good views. We were shocked to turn down the covers and find one of the beds had a ton of dog hair in it and dog feces on the pillow! The maintenance man came up and changed the bed sheets. The roll a way bed was very old. Restaurant service is too slow especially when hungry kids are waiting. Two thumbs down.

          A Wonderful Experience

After reading the reviews on the air-conditioning and the restaurant I was starting to downplay my expectations on this Holiday Sunspree. Upon arrival things went well. Great location, the ac worked to my satisfaction (i love it cold), the room service great, the restaurant was reasonable. Stick to the build a burgers and you'll do fine. The staff was generally friendly and the patrons very family oriented. I will go back and the sooner the better!

          Skip the Restaurant

The service was terrible, the food merely adequate. The hotel is very dated and the 2 elevators are small and slow. If you like watching people get drunk and dance to 20 year old loud rock and roll, the bar is for you. Unfortunately the bar is within ear shot of the pool, which would be lovely otherwise.

          Very Unprofessional Run Hotel!

From the time we sat foot in the lobby, there were problems. Hotel desk clerk was arguing with another guest and being quite rude. The only good thing about this hotel is the location on the beach. The rooms are hot as they are controlled by some motion type of system in shutting the doors. Entire staff with exception of two people we came in contact with were rude and appeared as though they could care less if you were there or not. We did have a valid complaint and the only thing the assistant manager offered us was a 25% discount next time we came! As if we would actually stay there again! Housekeeping was horsing around in hallway kicking the work cart. Very unprofessional run hotel!!

Money Saving A/C set up STINKS!

We stayed there last summer. Hotel was okay. And they can be just okay since they are the only hotel on the Island on the Beach. Our room had a most lovely view of the dumpsters. Service at the restaurant was slower than slow, food was JUST OK. All of that is tolerable, but the A/C situation was HORRIBLE. In an effort to save money, they put motion detectors on the A/C thermostat. If it does not detect motion for more than like 10 minutes, it turns off. Therefore, you always return to a hot room. But the worst part is the night. Unless you are a very restless sleeper, levitating a (Linda Blairish) 2 feet above the bed, you have to get up and down all night to keep the A/C going or suffer heat stroke. I want to be cool when I am on vacation. This is not a money saver this is a money loser. I WILL NOT RETURN AS LONG AS THIS SYSTEM IS IN PLACE!!!!!!

          Best on the Beach

Great location, family atmosphere, not the most luxurious, but satisfactory for being on the beach. Views are limited unless you have a balcony. Pool is great. The food at the restaurant is not the best; eat elsewhere.

          Worst hotel ever

This place was terrible. Dirty and nasty, no tv, no showers, really bad view!!!

          Great place, highly recommended

We stayed here last year and it was a great location right on the beach (the ocean, not the bay). Rooms are large with two queens, fridge, and microwave (great for people with kids). Two pools and spa. Very laid-back atmosphere with live music by the pools some nights. Only caveat-- If they give you free poolside drink coupons, order beer. We ordered margaritas and I swear there couldn't have been more than a drop of tequila in them (maybe the bartender was tired of people not tipping for the free drinks...unfortunately, I had tipped him).

Other than that, it was a great experience and we plan to return soon.

This place is gorgeous!!! I never want to go home. Beautiful views and wonderful service. Never seen anything like it.

          Good location, nice hotel

I've stayed here 4 times over the last couple of years. It's a nice comfortable hotel with good access to beach parks and Padre Island National Seashore. I have eaten at the restaurant once and I would not recommend it.

Our last night we went to the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Or as one article I agree with put it, "The Megan Fox Show". Other than her face always being on the screen in a model pout, it was pretty wonderful. Next stop ...

... Maybe, but my best guess was that it was a bunch of little bugs in the weed that glow when they get irritated. I kicked at the seaweed and sent the green glow through the air, toying with it. Was overly amused. The ocean, like space still blows my mind, the vast unknown. All the animals alienlike, scary. But, Being next to it, in it, also brings a feeling of freedom. That's why I'm here in corpus christ Texas on padre ...

Today was a good day. After breakfast and the membership meeting, we waited for the Robin, Delia and the boys to arrive. They came down for SANDFEST. This is one of the times when "sculptors" build some fancy type sand castles. Another time is in the fall when South Padre has SAND CASTLE DAYS.

Robin et al arrived and Bob dropped us at the fest area (he didn't want to go). Where he dropped us was about 1/4 mile from the ...

... luncheon at 11:30. Don't know why it's called the Red Hat/ROMEO luncheon. The ROMEO part is "Retired Old Men Eating Out", so that fits, but no one wears a red hat. Anyway we were at this Seafood & Spaghetti Restaurant which probably seats about 80 and there were about 60 of us. Actually I think more showed up than they were expecting since they had to add a few more tables to the set up. The ...
