The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. They escorted us to the fabulous "Lazy River" indoor aquatic center for us to view it prior to our decision to spend the night. The building engineer made a special trip to ensure our room was warm and cozy prior to our moving in. They say that the people make the place. In this case, it was certainly true. Very friendly and helpful staff were everywhere we went. The room was great with a balcony view of the Atlantic Ocean. We enjoyed the Hot Tub/Spa and Lazy River and the beautiful sunrise.

Save your money for a nice resort!
My first trip to Virginia brought me to the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort for a weekend wedding. I arrived at the hotel after an early morning plane flight with three other people, including a bridesmaid in the wedding. There was a sign welcoming our wedding party, and, despite the constant chaos and continuos roaring of jets overhead, we were hopeful. After receiving the shock of a 4:00 checkin time, we were told it would really be only and hour or so. So we stayed around the lobby, bored out of our minds, constantly being assured "Only another hour or so." We checked in at 3:30 that aftrenoon, tired, annoyed, and angry that an entire morning had been wasted due to an inadequate housekeeping staff. Because it was too late for breakfast, too early for lunch, and too expensive, we had to go to the 7-11 across the street. To make a long story short, this place is an absolute waste of time and money. If you prefer the scream of jets flying overhead to the sound of the sea, this is the place for you. If you like a rude staff and a dirty, smelly room, go for it! It's only 250 a night, afterall.
This resort is Great!
This resort knows how to take care of its guests! When we arrived, we were greeted at the front desk by very pleasant (and smiling) clerks! They were knowledgeable about the hotel and the weather! It had been raining for the past few days, and was misting when we arrived. It didn't seem to bother any of the guests we passed in the lobby. Our room overlooked the Atlantic Ocean! It was clean and nicely furnished. And, this hotel has a program that keeps the kids occupied (and happy). We had a great time here and enjoyed this SunSpree Resort and Virginia Beach very much!
Great Family Fun
In my week stay at the hotel I found many positive aspects. My wife and I greatly enjoyed the Italian Isle of Capri restaurant. Especially considering we didn't have to worry about the kids as the hotel also offers a great kid program, Kid Zone. The staff was great with the children and they were constantly asking to go down. They also have two wonderful pools as well as a nice gym. We enjoyed our stay very much and we definitely return in the future.
My family and I vacation in Virginia Beach each year and we have stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree for years. This year things have changed, it was really nice to see the new renovated suites the decor was very nice. Also Beach Scenes Cafe looked great, and we had wonderful service in there each day, plus our kids eat free! As for the lazy river pool it was not opened yet, but we did get a chance to see it and it looks wonderful the kids along with us can't wait until next year to come back. Overall we had a wonderful time, and the entire staff was just as friendly as ever!
Sunspree's Great Staff
While i was there my stay was fantastic. The front desk staff was the greatest staff i have ever witnessed at a hotel in my years and years of traveling. They were so friendly and outgoing. It was unbelivable.
The room was emaculate. Housekeeping was great catering to our every need. We will come and visit the sunspree any chance we get.
Not Worth The Price
OK step 1, the reservation folks tell you that the lazy river is open..guess what they LIE. It is not open, and according to the staff on-site it will not be open til end of year. Rooms are run down, thought you would at least get new BED LINEN for $219 a night..NOT.
Even the undersheets had previous occupant Pubic Hairs, after we asked for a clean set we did receive them, however they did not change the undersheets nor the top sheets. The outdorr pool is great and the indoor pool is along the lines of a lap pool. Hot Tubs are indoors and can only hold 3 - 4 at a time. All rooms have great views, especially the Oceanfront and beach access is super. Parking was great and the restuarants fair well. We did not go into the Italian rest, we only visited the casual one. Kid's program was geared towards younger, under 7, however our kids did enjoy a couple of mivies and the tortoise was a big hit. If you are looking to be about a mile to mile and a half away from the main action then this is the place to be, the boardwalk walks are great and little noise in the area. Overall it was OK, but I would look to stay somewhere else next time...perhaps they would give clean sheets.
Arrived at the motel at 3:45 P.M. for a 4:00 P.M. checkin. The staff could not find my reservation but luckily i had my confirmation number. Then i was told the room would not be ready until about 4:45 P.M. OK, i could deal with that, just go to the bar and have a drink. it was a trip to the beach for a long weekend. finally got to the room and the floor was soaked from the ac leaking. the floor was wet all the way to the bed, and i do mean soaked. told the front desk but was told nothing could be done until later. went to go get some ice for a drink and finally found one that worked. the first FOUR i tried were broken. that was my first 2 hours at the sunspree. all i can say is NEVER AGAIN!!!
Do not stay here
My kids and I stayed here for a quick weekend beach trip and the hotel was terrible. To label this hotel as a "Resort" is a real stretch. The first room we checked into had a broken toilet, an electical socket that was ripped open and was damp and smelled odd. The hotel info book in our room stated that the hotel had room service and included a menu, but each time I called (breakfast, lunch and dinner) we were told that we could not order and were offered no explanation. We tried to go to dinner at the Isle of Capri at 9:15 and were told the cook was gone (even though the restaurant was supposed to be open until 10:00pm). The buffet for breakfast was awful and we had to wait for 15 mins to get silverware. Even though "kids eat free", I would have gladly paid for decent food. We ended up walking over to 7-11 for doughnuts on our last day. This hotel has none of the services a true resort offers, the staff was neither friendly nor helpful, the hotel was dirty and even with a discount, it was overpriced. We usually go to VA Beach a couple of times each summer and I will never stay at this hotel again or recommend it to anyone.
You don't always get what you pay for.
My friend and I went to Virginia Beach for a weekend getaway and stayed at the Holdiay Inn - Sunspree Resort.Upon checking in to our room, I pulled back the covers on the bed and to my horror there was hair, crumbs, and thread on the sheets. It was apparent the sheets had not been changed. We immediatedly called housekeeping for our sheets to be changed and when housekeeping arrived, they informed us that they were "too busy" to change them and that they could come back later. So, as we became increasingly irritated, we decided to change them on our own to only find out that they had given us incorrect sheets for our bed. Once again, we called housekeeping and emphasized we had paid too much money and did not need this type of inconvenience. Finally, we received our sheets after two attempts. Also, in the open area where you are to hang your clothes, there was a strong "foul" odor in the carpet. This is an older hotel with only 2 elevators which services not only the hotel guests but, the housekeeping staff as well. Additionally, the second elevator is directly across from the indoor pool and, therefore; water is tracked from the pool to the elevator so you have to be careful where you walk.Basically, the best part about this hotel (aside from one staff member assisting me when I injured myself), was that it was right on the oceanfront.Stay at this hotel only if it is your last resort!
O.K. but did see better
We arrived on 4-17-03 it was cold and rainy but we didn't care, the kids were excited about the indoor pool and it was o.k., the elevator by the pool was broke down the first night but was working the third day. Our room was not very clean when we checked in there were peanut shells & trash beside the bed, our view of the beach was pretty good. We ate breakfast at the Isle of Capris Rest. at the hotel and the buffet was great but 2 of the people ordered off the menu and they forgot about their food and when they finally got it the food was not that good. This was my first trip to VA Beach and I didn't know that all the shops and things to do were around 21st street and along in there. Next trip I'll stay at the Holiday Inn at 21st street. It looked alot nicer.

... for poor visibility we were ducking in and out of the channel to avoid Navy traffic.
During the trip down anything that wasn't fastened down below ended up on the floor in the salon. Left Annapolis at 2 Monday and arrived at Top Rack Marina at about 2 this afternoon. Rewarded ourselves with a great dinner out at the Amber Lantern Restaurant. Early to bed. Up at 5:30 tomorrow to get underway at first light.
