Holiday Inn Resort - North west side

Time to experience one night of luxury, thanks to Pearse and Amis - our friends from Oregon. We bumped into them in Phuket town about a week after we arrived in Kata and they invited us to spend a night at the Ko Phi Phi Holiday Inn Resort and Spa. How could anyone say no to that? We were planning to volunteer and help with the clean-up and rebuilding efforts on Ko Phi Phi anyway so we met them there a day or two after their arrival. The ferry schedules were running, but not at full capacity,...

Ko Phi Phi

We took a ferry from Phuket to Ko Phi Phi and I had never felt so ill in my life! The weather wasn't great so the sea was really choppy, but we made it in one piece!
The weather while we were at Ko Phi Phi wasn't great, we had a lot of rain, but even in the rain the islands are still beautiful! I have never seen sea as blue before - it was like it was off a post card!

On our first day there we took a long tail boat to a near by island which is their main town and it had lots of shop...

Snorkeling off of Koh Phi Phi Island

Phi Phi Island is about as remote a spot as you can find. To get here we caught a van to the ferry terminal, a ferry to the general vicinity of the shore and then stepped off of the ferry onto a long tail boat. But wait, the tide was out and the boat couldn't make it all the way to shore so we had to get off into the water to walk that last 400 feet to the shore. The hotel manager (who I always referred to as Mr. Roark) waded out to greet us while his staff waded out to get our bags. We were ...

On to Kho Phi Phi Don

It was a fairly long ride to the Marina from the airport (about an hour). On the way to the Marina we stopped at 7-11 and the bank. We were still amazed at how many 7-11s there were in Thailand. At the marina all of our luggage was loaded onto the boat (a fairly large twin engine boat) for the 25 mile ride to Phi Phi Island. The weather was very nice and the ocean was calm. The ride was uneventful. We kept rotating where we were sitting because we were worried we would get sunburned (we were ...

Phi Phi Island Day 2

Day 2 on Phi Phi Island..... I had planned to go diving at 10am and I had been told to be at the dive center at 9:30 in order to be ready for the dive. So, in order to make it in time I got up (not super early), but with time to get ready and have breakfast. Everyone went over to the restaruant for breakfast and we were amazed by the choices. The had everything you could want and some things you would never want for breakfast. The service was very friendly. We were about ready to head back to...

Phi Phi Islands

October 2-3, 2008 Took a ferry over to Ko Phi Phi today. Got a last minute reservation at a beach front spot. Lets hope there are no earthquakes! Ko Phi Phi was devastated by the tsunami and lost over 7,000 people; mostly tourists. But much rebuilding work has gone on and the people are resilient. Have had so much fun the last couple of days. Words couldn't even describe it. Keep in mind Phi Phi has no roads and no motorized vehicles. It's a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Patong. W...

PARADISE!!!!

from kjpow
If anyone is looking for the perfect romantic getaway, honeymoon location or just a slice of paradise this is your RESORT!!! the Holiday Inn is at the northern end of Phi Phi island and it basically has its own beach that it shares with another resort. There are bungalows on the beach and the other bungalows are nestled amongst tropical gardens. At low tide you can swim of the beach and out about 15metres and you can snorkel on a reef!!!! it is just so beautiful and peaceful we are so glad we went there at the end of our holiday!! the restaurant and massages and cruises are a little more expensive than the rest of thailand, but they are still on par with Aussie prices so they are not expensive in our standards, so if you are looking for a little piece of paradise the Holiday Inn pHi Phi island is the way to go !!!

Poor standard of accommodation, wonderful setting

from purelaxation
If you don't mind feeling like you're in a low-end holiday camp, this place is for you. It is pretty shabby; rooms are dated and the bathrooms are depressing. Meals are mass produced low quality buffets; nothing particularly authentically Thai about them. The seafood is totally over priced; especially as the crystal clear waters are just meters away. All of this would be perfectly acceptable if you were paying rock bottom prices, but the Holiday Inn Phi Phi doesn't come cheap. Also, charges for using the internet and telephone are extortionate.

On the other hand, the beaches and setting are out of this world and the Sunset bar is pretty special, with spectacular views and sunsets. Go there to enjoy the beaches and surrounding islands but be prepared for a poor standard of accommodation and value for money.

What can I say!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Phi Phi in Dec 2004. We left the Island a couple of days before the Tsunami hit on Boxing day. What can I say about this hotel... Its absolute paradise! The location is perfect and the beach is brilliant and very secluded from all the hustle and bustle in Ton Sai bay. We stayed in a beach hut literally a few steps away from the main beach. The accommodation is good and clean and the overall resort is set in a jungle like atmosphere. The food and evening entertainment is also spot on and I must say that watching the sun set from the view point with a cold beer is relaxation to the max!! We liked it so much we have booked up again and going back in Dec 2005!!! The location allows you to island hop around all the nearby coves and islands. (Pilae Bay is paradise and better than Maya bay where they filmed The Beach) and the snorkelling is out of this world. Its just like swimming in a big tropical fish tank!! You can also get to Tonsai Bay for the shops and markets if you fancy a half day trip and a bit of bargain hunting. Overall I would give this place 10 out of 10 although anymore than 7 days would be a bit much. Perfect for 5 days... Looking forward to Dec 2005! Bring it on!!

Simply stunning island and the holiday inn is an amazing resort!

from bowerpower
phi phi is absolutely amazing, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

its quite secluded but an amazing resort. the bungalows are nice, the food is good but not particularly cheap. the staff are friendly and helpful. the evening singers are superb!

and the beach is stunning and is basically just a private beach for yourselves.

the holiday inn provide kayaks, wind sails and snorkelling gear plus you can take trips to various places such as phi phi ley, bamboo and mosquito island!

i would recommend this holiday inn resort to anyone!!!

Pure escapism at a reasonable price

from Hunterstryst
Having visited Phi Phi on a day trip the year before we were determined to stay on the island for a couple of nights on our tour of S.E. Asia.

We were met at Phuket airport and driven to the harbour which was approximately a 40 minute drive. The crossing to Phi Phi itself was on a smallish ferry and was a bit on the rough side and took around 1 and a half hours. We were met at Tonsai Bay for the transfer onto the hotel which is located on the north east corner of the island. We travelled by long tail boat which was a fascinating way to see the island and the trip was made all the more enjoyable by a member of the Holiday Inn staff keeping our 6 year old son well entertained during the 4o minute trip.

On arrival the friendly member of staff disembarked and brought a tractor to the side of the boat and we arrived at the front of the hotel in a somewhat unusual but fun style.

First impressions were stunning with the reception a replica of a Thai temple open at the sides. We completed our registration downing fruit cocktails having freshened up with hot towels brought by the reception staff.

Travelling with children we were given adjoining bungalows right on the beach and only yards from the water spotrts centre and bar.restaurant area. Rooms were comfortable and appropriate for a beach setting. Practical rather than luxurious but amply equipped and the lack of a tv reinforced the seclusion.

Each morning my wife and I started our day by having a swin in the clear blue water which was literally yards from our front door. In the evening we relaxed on the hammoch which again was conveniently located outside our bungalow

I had booked the summer package of 2 nights/3days which included transfers from Phuket and provided us with a 4 hour trip on a long tail boat to take us whereverv we wanted to go on Phi Phi. The trip also included a picnic hamper for the family. We had fantastic trip with our gude who took us to snorkelling sites and we also stumbled across a troop of monkeys on one of the beaches.

Because of the isolation prices for food and drink were on the higher end of the scale compared to Phuket. Nevertheless the standard was very high and it was worth taking advantage of the happy hour before the evening meal. The staff were friendly and took a genuine interest in us as guests. One of the waiters on discovering that I was interested in Thai cooking arranged for recipes to be brought to us to take home.

We were so impressed with the hotel we extended our stay for an extra night.

On our return to Phuket we were relieved to find that the ferry was larger and better equipped than the one that brought us to the hotel. I would recommend at the time of booking people ascertain what kind of ferry will be taking them to the island as crossings are not always calm.

Lovely

from nads_p
We stayed at Holiday Inn Phi Phi for 3 nights at the beginning of dec 2004, it was a great experience. We were transferred from Phuket, which involved a 1 hour ferry ride, a transfer to a smaller boat for about 25 people, and then a final transfer to a long tail boat to take us up to the resort... (we still had to wade into the resort as the tide was out!) the staff were friendly and the welcome to the hotel was very good, out feet were washed as we got off the boat and we were given a fruit cocktail as we arrived.

The bungalows themselves as quite simple, and i was not overly impressed by the basic finish, they seem over-priced they really need updating - but the grounds are wonderful and this compensates. it is as if you are in the jungle!

As the hotel is so remote evenings are spent around the hotel restaurants - we had the buffet for all 3 nights, which was very enjoyable (thai, asian, and BBQ), there is good live music and a good bar.

Bit dissapointed at lack of sun beds on the beach, only chairs available. We also got bitten by sea insects in the sea whilst snorkling - not poisonous , just itchy , hotel nurse gave us some cream.

the nicest way to experience phi phi, and you get to avoid the back packing crowd!

Setting the record straight

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just read the reviews here and am compelled to respond. This hotel is fabulous. My wife and I stayed here in 2002 for 10 nights as part of a longer Thailand holiday. Yes, the ferry ride can be daunting, especially if you suffer from seasickness, but this is supposed to be a secluded island. It can't be anything but a trek to get there.

The staff were great, the bungalow we had, on the beach front, was stunning and swimming in the sea at dusk is one of my most memorable holiday experiences. There is no TV in the bungalow, thank God! There is a CD player, though, and the cleanliness and service is first class.

In all it took us 27 hours to travel from Phi Phi to home (Leeds, in England) but if we go back to Thailand we couldn't not go back to this resort. It was idyllic and low-key and exactly what you want on an idyllic low-key island.

Not an easy place to get to

from visitors52
The hotel advertises that it takes one and a half hour by ferry from Phuket to the resort. Well, the reality is that it takes 3 to 3 and a half hours, especially if the sea is rough. Do not take a lot of luggage because it will be hard to transport from the boats to the shore. You have to transfer to long boats in order to get close to shore. Also when you return back to Phuket, no one will help you.

The biggest problem with the hotel is that the cottages rely on your key activating the air conditioning, etc. So if you are out all day at the beach or pool or at dinner, you return to a very hot, stuffy room, that takes all night to cool. There is no TV in the rooms, if you were wondering.

Just next to the resort is a gypsy village which sells soda etc. for a third of the price. It is just as easy to walk left as it is to go to the bar and pay high prices.

Gorgeous Getaway (but the photo's on here are wrong!)

Stayed here over Christmas 2003. Gorgeous beach front resort - private beach as no roads and only hotel up here!

Transfer by boat with all your cases - and this is Thailand so no luxury speedboats - wear sensible shoes and travel light! Make sure you use their left luggage facility on Phuket itself if this is part of a larger trip, as you will be thankful of it when you clamber from the ferry onto the transfer boats roof. Kuoni never told us about this and it would have been a big help as this was at the end of a three week adventure.

Good restaurant, but make sure you ask for the a la carte menu as the buffet tends to be very western, and the quality of the Thai food here is amazing.

Very quiet in the evening in beach front bar, with band, everyone goes to bed early.

Bungalows are simple, but clean and welcoming.

Sunset satay bar is amazing!

Staff are very friendly and accommodating, and although this is not necessarily a luxury resort, a good option if you don't want to spend thousands, but want to completely get away from it all.

Also - the photos on here are NOT Holiday Inn Phi Phi Island, they are Holiday Inn Phuket! They have a good selection on their own website if you want to have a look.
