          Sweet Accessible Suite at Westgate!

We loved the Westgate! We arrived after dark after driving for two days from Wisconsin only to discover that the room that we had initially reserved would not work for our family. (My husband is in a motorized wheelchair, and the room we had reserved had a tub and narrow door opening - this was not going to work.) An angel at the front desk named Ebony found a different room for us - a suite that was FULLY wheelchair accessible. Though it was far away from the front desk, she found coverage for the desk and personally walked us over there to show us the room to make sure it would work for our family. My jaw dropped - the room was gorgeous! Everything in the room was designed for someone in a wheelchair, including lots of floor space, handicap entry, lowered light switches, roll-in shower and multiple grab bars around the toilet. We had initially reserved a two queen bed room, and this was a King bed with a pull out sofa, but our boys were happy to sleep on the pullout because it meant they had their own TV in a room separate from their parents! We loved the room and quickly felt right at home.

We stayed from Sunday to Friday and loved every minute of it. Our kids swam in both pools and spent a lot of time on the beach, which was just steps out the back door. They also loved the arcade, which was conveniently near our room, too. The Myrtle Beach police department loans out beach wheelchairs for free, including delivering them to the hotels. The Westgate front desk staff were always happy to securely store my husband's wheelchair while we transitioned him to the borrowed beach wheelchair for some fun in the sun.

We highly recommend the Westgate, and will now look for their resorts wherever we travel.

After a long drive we pulled in to Myrtle Beach without a hotel room. We were a week before peak season and had checked enough to know there were vacancies - but since we have to look at the room before we can take it anyhow, we just decided to pull into town and stop a few places.

          This was a mistake.

But we didn't know. This is …

... We rode in a helicopter for about 5 min for 40$ each. It was a quick ride but a great experience. After that we headed back to barefoot landing to see the tigers from T.I.G.E.R.S preservations. people were taking pictures holding the tiger but that was 100$. We just decided to look at the cub tigers through the glass. That was a nice experience. They were very playful. ...

We loved this anchorage. Under-rated in the guide books. we swam; went ashore
and have great sunset and sunrise moments. This will be our last night in North Carolina, tomorrow we start our tour of South Carolina.

          ... entertained.

I wanted to give myself 2 full days in Charlotte before we flew out. I needed to get the VIN number of the van verified by the police, as I'm still driving around with temporary plates (well, a piece of paper stuck the to back window). Amazing, that of all the police you see, I was never stopped once for the few weeks I had absolutely no plates and never while I had temporary plates for the last four weeks. The US States ...

... lunch, between storms, we managed 2 geocaches and then on the way back from the last one, I almost stepped on a snake. It turns out the snake was hopelessly stuck in a fishing net. Dex decided to save it and I reluctantly helped. With a good bit of difficulty and fear, we finally freed the snake. I just hope the good deed will come in handy some day if we encounter another less helpless snake!
