... bridge tender called us on 09 VHF and said that traffic was light and he'd be happy to let us pass! Of course, we were thrilled to accept his considerate offer. For any bridge -- and especially this one, with a nasty reputation for its sometimes surly operators -- such considerations are rare. Thank you, kind sir! (Tip of the hat)

Our start this rnorning found us aground in the mouth of Jeremy Creek after leaving Leland Oil dock in McClellansville, SC. While this wasn't on our plan it did provide the opportunity to eat a nice breakfast, coming unstuck from the oatmeal-like bottom just as we finished the last of our coffee. Chris was getting a cold so it was probably a good plan for as to get the hotel because we pretty much spent the entire afternoon taking naps and watching football and playing videogames. We brought food from our van into the room and had a picnic of sorts. It was nice just spreading out and relaxing. Chris felt much better after getting some good sleep and I enjoyed the warmth. Overall I think it was a good ...

... Bridge that marks the southernmost end of this boring waterway. An hour prior to the bridge the rain started and conditions at the helm rapidly became miserable. Rather than continue in the rain we decided to call it a short day and anchor behind the small island in the loop. Dry and with Mr. Heater going we read and napped until dinner. Maggie produced a nice meal of salmon patties, pasta and red wine. The meal was excellent and we'll hunker down here for ...

      Looking for southern charm

A travel blog entry by ktchris on Nov 16, 2014

In the morning we took the Brew Masters advice and went to Bon Appetit. I looked up the restaurant and it turns out it's a pretty popular place. Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill have both been filmed there, Robert DeNiro celebrated his 50th birthday there and they were voted by TheKnot.com as the best wedding caterer. All these things pointed to a good breakfast and we wanted to go classic southern. Chris ordered Chicken and Bacon Waffles (The bacon was ...
