Hoi An Ancienttown

Our flight to Danang was quite early so we set off by taxi to Nha Trang's Airport at about 6AM. This is quite a beautiful drive and in parts is reminiscent of the area around Kiama and further south. It was a nice sunset too. The flight and drive to Danang/HoiAn was uneventful and once we checked into our hotel we ambled into town to look around. There are no cars allowed in the centre of the township and also no bikes outside of certain times ( we figured around beginning and finishing schoo...

Ho Chi Minh Choppers

This is going to be a long entry, but we have had many adventures since we left Dalat on motorcycles with our guides for a five day trip up to Hoi An. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, blow off work for a few minutes, and join us on the back of Mr. Tan and Mr. Hung's motorcycles as we ride through the Vietnamese countryside! We had heard about the so-called Easy Riders from other Travelpod members and from Lonely Planet. Alex had to spend some time convincing Amy that this was a good idea. W...

Beautiful Relaxing Hoi An

One last breakfast at the shabby Century Riverside Hotel this morning before we hoped in a car for the three hour drive to Hoi An. The views were spectacular. Unfortunately, I'm still battling a cold and slept through the first half. I did, however, wake up at a beach somewhere, near a tour bus (real descriptive, I know) We got some cold beverages before heading back down the road and I saw the rest of the trip. Towering mountains coming right down to the ocean, deep blue water speckled with ...

Cooking it up Spicy in Vietnam

We arrived back in Vietnam two days ago (was it really two days ago?), later in the afternoon. By the time we checked into our hotel it was dark so we wandered a short ways (in a cab) to a nearby restaurant for dinner. We were the only people at the large restaurant but we enjoyed our food inspite of the soundtrack from Miss Saigon blaring over the outside courtyard where we sat. We were also waited on by an over-eager to please young woman who poured us teaspoons of wine as a refill each tim...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hoian Riverside Resort Hoi An

Fine. Not Fabulous

from OneFeather
After reading all the glowing reviews, I guess I expected too much.

Liked: the beautiful grounds, the lovely staff, the poolside library, pretty bathrooms.

Disliked: the rooster next door woke us up at 0345am. The skilsaw started next door at 0700am.

Rooms pretty, but spare. Beds hard (like everywhere in Vietnam). Food mediocre and a little expensive.

Our room was a deluxe riverview which was worth the extra price. But when we moved rooms (to avoid rooster and construction noise), the next room was more expensive (they gave us the same rate which was really nice), view entirely blocked by tall palm trees. So I'm confused why would anyone pay more for this "upgraded" room with a worse view.

Was it nice? You bet. Would I go back? Probably not. If you go - be very particular which room you get.

Paradise in Hoi An Riverside

from Plino
This resort is simply beautiful architecture, manicured gardens, great restaurant and awesome rooms. The rooms are spacious, decorated with a high sense of elegance and beauty. The swimming pool is nice; the service there is excellent. The restaurant is open and overlooks the river and in the night they put swimming candles in the river and torches in the other riverside making a dinner very romantic.

It could be use as reference for excellence. I will come back.

Tranquil Riverside

from bofcof
First the rooms, we had the biggest one facing river on top floor in far corner of resort. Wow -- what a positon above the coconut palms and looking over the river to the paddi fields beyond with workers in their conical hats and water bufaloes. Looking to the right from our balcony I could sit early morning and just watch the local villagers set off for work from thier modest homes. It was all so interesting and fasinating to see a different culture to the West. The room was enormous with polished wooden floors and beautiful wooden and silk covered furniture. Fresh fruit daily (including a huge Pineapple). There was a lovely traditional tea-set in the room to use on a bamboo tray. The pool was attractive -- complimentary small sweet bannanas served by poolside to fill up on. Food was fine but I suggest for one evening trying the restaurant along the road on the river as seen from the hotel river bank. Free shuttle service into Hoian, or bike hire opposite hotel entrance. Definately ask for a river facing room as these are away from the road. The grounds are worth mentioning although not huge, the gardens are attractive, you can feed the fish in the pools and at night time the paths to the diffent blocks of the hotel are lit up with torches. This hotel is beautiful

Hoi An Riverside Hotel: Still remembering...

from Ponce_de_Leon
Smiles everywhere, also mines. Tropical garden, immaculate pool, large room, beautiful river life views, candels in the river, good food. Yes, still remembering... Perfect staff. Located off Hoi An, in the road to the beach. There is a free shuttle service to the town and to the beach. Maybe the schedule is unsufficient but this is not a problem at all, the staff can get you a taxi (very cheap). My wife had a little accident in an ankle, and the hotel staff sent a doctor in ten minutes, with a taxi ready to take us to a hospital. Thirty minutes later we had X-ray, diagnostic and medicines. In spite of the accident we enjoyed very much Hoi An (and its full moon festival) even more than the rest of Vietnam, thanks in part to the high level of this hotel.

Excellent resort in beautiful historic town

from neb
Stayed in a Riverside Deluxe Suite for 6 days in June. Well worth paying for the riverside room, with a great balcony that overlooks the river and rice fields. They even lit lanterns down the river just after dusk!

Well located between Hoi An town and the beach. Extremely friendly staff, always willing to help. Fantastic buffet breakfast served in an idyllic, open air room by the river. You have to try the banana pancakes!

Can highly recommend the following tours organised by the hotel - visit to My Son heritage site, and visit the Hoi An market with the food and beverage manager, then do the Vietnamese cooking class for lunch with fresh food purchased at the market that morning.

Only very minor criticism was that the rather warm pool was not refreshing due to the extremely hot and humid weather (around 37 degrees celcius).

Would strongly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Hoi An. Great for a romantic getaway.

Had a wonderful time at the Riverside Resort

from dragon
My husband and I have stayed at the Riverside Resort a number of times and enjoy it every time. This hotel is owned by3 brothers one of which is Khai of the famous Khai Silk chain of beautiful clothing stores and fashionable eating establishments found in Vietnam (Phnam Phan and Au Mannor Du Khai) there is also a branch of Khai Silk at the Resort and the prices are much cheaper there than in HCM or Hanoi the resort also owns one of the best places to eat in Hoi An called " The Brothers" a very beautiful old French building which is oh so romantic A little bit of trivia is that Michael Caine stayed at The Riverside Resort as a guest while in Hoi An during the filming of The quiet American and the hotel supplied all the catering for the Movie. there is a photograph of Khai and Michael Caine at the reception desk. the Japanese covered bridge in the movie was the location of Pyle's murder.

Fine but not the best hotel on our trip

from A TripAdvisor Member
we stayed at the hoi an riverside for three days. The hotel room was lovely, very clean and the staff helpful. However, although this is clearly an above average hotel it was the least impressive and charming on our trip in vietnam, cambodia and then thailand. It is a very acceptable 4* type hotel but in itself did not add to our trip.

I feel it suffers a little from its location since although it is very pretty it does not have the advantages of being either at the beach or in the town proper. This means that you have to arrange transport or catch the hotel bus to go anywhere which we found a little restricting.

What I really did not like was the need to have a "staged" pretend fishing boat on the river outside the dining area and then piped musac at breakfast. Vietnam has got so many authentic visual and auditory experinces all the time, there is no need to doctor it in my opinion. It just felt more of a "themed" hotel rather than having its own genuine charm.

I do not like to be too critical of the Riverside because the staff were so nice to us. However when we went and looked around the Hoi An Life Resort hotel (that i notice has received very favourable reports on trip advisor) it appeared fabulous with a beautiful pool. The staff there could not have been more helpful about us assessing the rooms etc. Its location make it a very short walk from town centre and a haven of tranquility and style. If we return to Hoi An we would definately try to stay there rather than the Riverside.

Phantastic service, perfect setting!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very, very nice boutique resort! from our nicely designed room and the breakfast table we had a wonderful view onto the river and the rice paddy fields. The service is excellent. And it's great fun to rent a motorbike to go to the beach (also great) and the city...

Beautiful boutique hotel

from Emmag-1
One of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in in terms of service and quality... little touches like clothes being repaired when put in for a service wash and the quality of the food and accommodation leaves me dreaming about going back! Fabulous... Staff even found a fishing rod for my husband as he was bored one (very) rainy afternoon and helped him catch a couple of fish... peaceful and welcoming.
