Historical Traveler Reviews Hilton Sandestin Beach, Golf Resort & Spa
DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST
Prior to traveling to this Hilton, I had read nothing but wonderful review. I also had heard from friends that this resort in general was "the best." Upon entering the front doors, I felt "unwelcome" by the staff and this feeling never changed throughout the week I stayed there. My room was not so impressive, dusty, dirty, obviously used, and an ac that worked part time. I slept there at night but rented a car and spent the rest of my time seeing other sights. I am disappointed to think I spent my hard earned money for a week of disappointment. I suggest staying anywhere on the resort but the Hilton.
Friendly Staff & Great Service
The Hilton's a great hotel overall. There is shuttle service to the outlet malls, Baytowne Wharf, and the golf courses. The food is great, very nice cocktail lounge in the lobby, and the prices for items in the stores and restaurants are reasonable. The rooms are very roomy, and there is even a tv in the bathroom. Every room has a balcony, and you can see the ocean from every room. The only problem is that there is no service elevator so sometimes you can get stuck waiting for one. The beach and pools are great, and this is a great family resort.
Simply put....just awesome
My wife and our three kids, just about live in hotels. The staff was wonderful, starting with the nice guy at the security hut. The grounds were nicely manicured, and really made you feel like you are on a resort. The valet parking guys were very nice, and well... simply everyone was very gracious. The room was amazing! It was very spacious, clean (a must for us), and nicely deocrated. The kids loved their little alcove with the bunkbeds. It almost felt like an actual 2 bedroom suite. The pools, both indoor and outdoor, and the hot tub were all great. We spent a lot of time there and on the beach. The beach is picture postcard beautiful. The sand is like white powder. We've actually been to several beaches in Florida, the Caribbean, the Virgin Islands, and Mexico. But this was by far the most beautiful beach we have ever seen.
The only disappointment was when the bill came, and the hotel added on a $14 per day resort fee that we didn't know about. We felt they should have just included that in the room rate instead of tacking on this mandatory fee for being on a resort. Anyway, overall the experience was just wonderful. We will be back, and would recommend it to anyone.
A very nice place to stay
The Sandestin Resort area is so beautifully manicured. There is security upon entering the complex, and when you first drive up, staff members meet you at the car and help you unload your bags.
We stayed at the Hilton Sandestin, and our room was pretty spacious.
The kids slept in the bunk beds very well, and we had plenty of room.
The pools were excellent, and the hotel felt like a tropical island resort. The beach was great - white sand. The water wasn't so clear because we got there after a series of bad thunderstorms.
Although expensive, they have a really good breakfast buffet. I only have a couple of complaints, and they are minor. The sheets and towels were as soft as burnt toast. Once you get a sunburn on the beach, drying off with a hard towel is hard to do! The other complaint is the lack of a service elevator. The elevators were slow, and many times they would finally get to you and there would be a huge linen basket on wheels taking up the entire space.
We are already talking about a return trip!
Great Family Resort
We live 2 hours from Sandestin and the Sandestin Hilton is a favorite get a way for this family of five! The bunk beds in the Jr. suite are great. The bunk beds are in a cove--so it is like having two rooms in one. There is an indoor and outdoor pool, mulitple hot tubs, An AWESOME Spa (Serenity by the Sea) a must do!! Definitly try the massage--it is wonderful! My husband and I took turns visiting the spa. The staff at the spa are superb! Very friendly. Heath at the Guest Desk is also awesome. I found the hotel staff to be super friendly. Shuttle service is available to Fisherman's wharf--lots of great resturants and shopping. The hotel is located on the beach--if it weren't for the outlets just down the road--we would not leave the resort property! Everything you need is right there. Do beware of the gift shop though--get your niceties before you arrive or you will pay resort prices for gum, disposable camera and the sort. The hotel is well worth the buck though.
Hilton = Service!!
This Hilton must have two employees for every guest that stays there! Everywhere we went in the hotel, there was a happy and helpful employee just waiting to answer our questions or point us in the right direction. We have 3 children and their "Kids Night Out" and "Kidz Crew" programs are outstanding. They have different activites for all ages all day long. Truely an amazing resort! You have to give this place a try as it was well worth the money and our family had one of the best vacations in years. Thanks to the employees of the Hilton as we will be back in August.
Hilton: Heaven on Earth
Tell everyone you know that we have found "Heaven on Earth" at the Hilton Sandestin Beach in Destin Florida! With a spectacular view over the gulf you can see both the sunrise and sunset!! We had such an incredible stay that our family has already booked again for July 4th. They have an exceptionally friendly staff that just LOVES KIDS! Even as busy as the hotel was last weekend, everyone took the time to help out and give us advice on what to do around the resort and the town. If you get the chance, take a day and visit their Spa (Serenity by the Sea) as my wife bought a full day package and just raved about her experience! See you in July!
WOW...What a GREAT Staff!!
Where to begin...From the second we arrived at this fabulous resort to the time we left yesterday, the staff at the Hilton was outstanding! Every year we take a long weekend trip in February to Florida to escape the cold. We usually stay at Marriott's as I am a frequent guest and can usually get free upgrades, however we decided to try the Hilton as we really wanted to stay in a resort on the coast and had just been to Orlando last year. We booked connecting rooms and were even able to upgrade to great beach front views. With the weather turning bad we asked the bell staff what we could do in Destin. Robin was a true delight!! He gave us about 20 different options of things to do in the area. We had a fantastic weekend touring all over Destin and even took our kids to the Gulfarium (what a treat). Kudos to the Hilton and their "5" Star staff as they saved our weekend!
Hilton Sandestin Beach
My wife and I were looking to get away from the freezing cold of Atlanta and were pleasantly surprised to still find rooms available at the Hilton Sandestin Beach. Seeing as this was our first trip to Destin, we relied on our friends expertise on where to stay. They raved about how great the Hilton was and I must say they were 100% correct! What a beautiful resort. Everyone from the front door staff to the waiter in Seagars were FANTASTIC!! Our view over the beach was spectacular and the room was huge. We have even booked a second trip this summer back to the Hilton as this is the ONLY place we will stay! Please tell all your viewers/readers about this magnificent resort in Destin!!
Average hotel with above average prices
My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Sandestin in August, 2002. We booked the Romance package and were suppose to get an ocean front room with champagne and strawberries upon arrival. Our room turned out to be ocean view at best and we had to call about our champagne and strawberries twice. We finally received our treats about three hours after we arrived. Also, the front desk personnel were unfriendly. The room was very spacious, though, and could easily accommodate 6 people. Sandestin is a lovely area. The next time we go there, we plan to book a room in the condos next door to the Hilton.

We woke up early to enjoy the beach and hoped to see dolphins but no luck. The beach was stunning though. We had breakfast and packed up to leave. They gave us a CD on check out from the Inn of romantic beach music! Such a nice touch. I was sad to leave. It was so nice there.
We ended up with a 7 hour drive plus the hour that ...
... one of them took a nibble. But they are harmless. We also noticed there are no shells here. It is almost remarkable. I don’t know that I have ever experienced a beach with literally no shells.
For dinner we went to Camille’s which is literally 2 stop signs down the road. They had sushi and it was amazing. Plus it was special sushi night tonight ($6 rolls) so we ate up! They also had the most wonderful bread pudding. ...

We decided to have dinner here at the Inn. The chef and food are supposed to be the best around and they certainly stood to that reputation! Jym had lamb and I had Grouper Vince. Both were fantastic. We also tried the portabella for an appetizer and a side of the 150 day old aged white cheddar truffled macaroni. Wow. We had no room for dessert though…sad ...

My daily mileage quotas will be slightly higher than on the way down, we took 7 days to get to Atlanta doing 650 km/day, but my departure point is about 900 km farther east & south. I have 8 days to get home and want to do at least 700 km a day. I would like my last day, as always, to be a short day, maybe from my ...

We had a fast trip on the train late Wednesday from Florence to Rome and transferred to a regional train for the last ride to Fiumicino Aeroporto. The Italian countryside flew by at about 170 MPH, slower than from Venice :>) and I am sharing some snapshots of the rolling hills we passed on the journey. Take a look at how the trees close to the train ...
