Our second week started with a cold, dreary Monday. Being the fair-weather fishermen that we are, we didn't go out on the lake today. The ladies piled into two vans and drove to Walker for our annual beach-town shopping day. ... over to Pike Bay hoping to bring home some more perch and rock bass and we weren’t disappointed, ending up with 22 fish total, 10 perch and 12 rockies (several of which were really nice-sized). Moving through the channel between the big lake and Pike Bay is often an adventure in itself, and today was no exception. When we pulled in we noticed a mother duck with her three babies. Seth informed us it was actually a merganser. She fluttered around getting ...

We headed in a little earlier than usual so Tom could get the fish cleaned and we could head out on our afternoon adventures. At about ...

... their boat. They shouted that they were taking on water, and mom gestured to show 2-3 inches of water had filled the bottom of their boat. We could see the water being pumped out with the bilge pump in the back, and after a few more tense minutes, Dad said it looked like his plug had fallen out. This wasn't good. He started his engine and moved his boat as quickly as he could toward the nearest boat docks at Dick's Resort. We followed close ...

... bring in 3 more perch. We also caught 2 bluegill, and even though they weren't keepers, it was fun to FINALLY catch something besides perch and rock bass. We had a rough, somewhat wet ride home, but still had a great time laughing and screaming with each wave we crashed into.

This afternoon we spent some time reading about spinal fusion in preparation for Leah's big surgery next Monday. It's starting to become more real to us, and we're all a bit nervous about what ...
