... But, no! To our delight the sound was just trains being shunted about in the grain elevator yard, way outside of town. All we heard was some low rumbling. No horns. Nothing else. And it only lasted about an hour or so. Somewhere nearby there is either a horse or cattle barn or field because every once in a while this earthy, manure odour wafts by...it's not horrible, just a gentle reminder that we are in farm country. Another interesting factoid about this area...it's a huge ...

... We stopped by Madison to give Jared his slack line, and to introduce him to Migizi. After visiting with him over dinner at Applebee's, we hit the road for the last leg or our trip.

We arrived home at 1:00 a.m., after 15 and 3/4 hours (a little slower than usual this year due to our sit-down dinner with Jared). Although it’s always sad to leave Cass Lake, our "home away from home," it’s still nice to be back to our ...

Beth and I keep trying to get Dad to slow down, but he insists on doing things himself, even if it results in a little tumble now and then. He got his shoes wet today when he took a small spill into the lake, but he was all right, and finally allowed us to help him a bit more.

In the afternoon Tom cleaned our six fish, and I gave Mom and ...

Today was a fairly laid-back day. We saw Seth and Maddie off early in the morning, and after catching a bit more sleep, Tom & I joined mom and dad for some fishing. It was nice to be able to visit while we fished, and Tom enjoyed not having to drive the boat. Putting my dad's boat driving skills together with my GPS/guiding skills, we were able to catch ten fish by the end of the morning. I guess that doesn't say much for either of our skills, but ...

... rest of the way to Grand Rapids.

After a few more winks of sleep, breakfast and coffee, Tom, Jared & I headed out to fish. Since Jared had only gotten a 24-hour license, he needed to get in at least one more trip to make it worthwhile. After being out for about 2 1/2 hours, and catching only 8 fish, Jared questioned whether the trip WAS worthwhile. Oh well, we'll have to try to win Jared over to fishing next year.

By late afternoon we decided to take ...
