... most likely deviate from the planned route. However, much to my bitter disappointment we will not be diverting to Chattanooga to ride the incline. Oh well, a reason to comeback to Tennessee someday.
After DC we hired a car from Knoxville and headed to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. We stayed in a town called Gatlinburg and the only way I can describe it so that everyone understands.... It's like being at Disneyland without the rides but all the attractions and fast food restaurants that you could think of. It had so many mini golf places, Ripley's believe it or not attractions, cars from movies, old fashion ...
... a gentle, uphill hike. At about lunchtime, we stopped to rest at a clearing alongside Big Creek. The water tumbled by over mossy rocks. Brilliant blue butterflies danced in the sand. A small band of horsemen approached on the trail, waving as they clopped by.
"Is that thunder?" I asked. Jen, one of our hiking companions, looked up at the sky, which was blue.
“No, I think that was an airplane.”
I heard the sound again. Admittedly, it was difficult ...
... the afternoon. (I napped, Chris read a computer book or something)
Tonight we had the Sach's over to our campsite for some Spaghetti Bolognese (or however that is spelled) Chris showed off his caveman fire building skills and also managed to throw away the brand new unopened box of Graham Crackers and Marshmallows we had purchased that day. Thank you very much sir.
... compete for Britain if Mini Golf ever makes it into the Olympics. Me and Les had a team talk later that night, about how we are going to have to raise our game. I think we need to take them on at our sports. I will be suggesting a day at the bowling alley tomorrow with drinking games.
The end of the night the Sach's kindly treated us to a delicious home/camp cooked dinner consisting of yummy pork loin, gnocchi and veggies.
