... a huge payoff. The hike itself is very demanding - 5 miles one way, a ton of elevation gain. I put a picture of the map in this blog post but if you are interested take a look on Google Maps and if you zoom enough you can see the trail with a bunch of photos posted. There were quite a few people on the hike, which is no surprise as it is rated as one of the best hikes in Canada.

Day 7 (Island Park - Glacier National Park)

We can go for miles without seeing any settlements, just wide open grassland valleys and tree-filled mountains again. 1pm On the I-90 now. We are just passing through Craig Pass. It was a bit of let down but Cameron loved the 100 year old carousel, the playground and the gondola ride over the (small) waterfalls.

... This year the pass did not open until July2! According to the brochure, "Glaciers that lie against mountains erode ever-steeper cliffs by repeatedly freezing and thawing, plucking rock loose. The moving ice carries the broken rock down-valley. Where glaciers surround a mountain peak they may eventually erode it to a tooth-like horn. The same back-cutting erosion may carve a mountain ridge as a shape-edged arete. Many subalpine lakes ...

... but didn't see much worth photographing as the day was a bit dreary.

We've had a lot of smoke in the air from the Washington, Idaho, and Oregon fires, but it appears to be clearing out now.

    Hope you like the photos.
