      ... lunch in the Pacific Restaurant, for the first time, back for some more quoits. Temperature rising to a comfortable 20 degC. This time better luck we were partnered with another couple. George and the wife of the other couple beat me and the husband in the final. We were past Gibraltar by this time and on our way to Barcelona.       ... and working every evening when the sun goes down. Dancing til sunrise in nightclubs under the bull-ring. Meeting a Prince from Ghana. Powdering my nose in the ceiling painted Tocador of the Casino. Listening to DJs playing 80s retro accompanied by classical violinists. Being serenaded by a 21-year-old Argentinian in the Plaza de las Flores.

      3 foot 9 x 2.5 hours a week is a small price to pay, and I'm no maths teacher.

      ... led astray by the excellent value of the Menu Del Dia (or more likely the wine that came with it), the Gin & Tonic that was served in something the size of a goldfish bowl, the vat of Brandy and Baileys or maybe the Jack Daniels or two served at the Country & Western night. The local bar owners do seem to have a very heavy hand, which made for a heavier head the following morning and some amusement for us all. Reading the local classified ...

      ... probably no swimming at all.

      Nonetheless, we were exhausted and relieved to make it to Cartagena at last the next day (quite early on, as our anchorage was only about three hours away). The sun was bright and hot, the sky blue, there were palm trees all around and there's both a museum and a concert hall right next to the marina.

      We'd chosen a great week to arrive, as Cartagena was partway through its annual festival ...

      ... CELTA course I took. We 8 newbies have gone from strangers to family in less than a week, and they are a great bunch. Less than 24 hours after we all met we were arranging a Sunday Roast at one of our houses. Nadia lives out of Murcia by about a 30 minute drive on a desolate Golf Resort and offered to do us a roast chicken.

      Its like El Dorado-geddon. She cuts straight over the round-a-bouts and car parks to avoid the concretised mounds of red muddy landslide. She is by far ...
