This was an adventure. Rather than go through expensive and possibly boring Brunei, we opted for the tougher overland route through the jungles of Borneo. We left Miri early Tuesday morning to catch the 9am express ferry to Marudi. These express ferries are what all of the locals use, and usually include some form of WWF or ultra-violent film in the cost. Imagine Malaysian toddlers staring rapt at Mel Gibson's gory Apocalypto... From Marudi another express boat to Long Terawan, where we had a...

Johor, Malaysia cyberdee... Japanese to Indian, Chinese to Malaysian. Arvid could not resist piecing on some tempting tidbits from various vendors while Irina insisted on seeing everything before making her decision. She settled on a sea food place and ordered squid, stingray and loads of clams. We pigged out; a big portion of squid, a whole stingray and 4 dozen steamed clams. Tomorrow we cross over to Singapore.
Johor Bahur,, Malaysia yoni... accomodation. We decided to fly to Singapore a day earlier as we had orignally been told that our flight from Samui and next day flight to Singapore would fly into the old aiport (Don M), however when we flew back from Samui we realised that we were landing at the new airport. We decided to change our flight to fly into Singapore that same day because it was easier. We didn't want to go back to the new airport as it was in chaos - there were so many reporters and camera ...
Singapore, Malaysia alikat... island I was on (West Sumatra) are peasant farmers of some capacity (fish, rice, vegetables, fruits.)They make a living peddling their goods at the weekly markets. When it comes down to it, its not the place its the people and the interactions that make an experience memorable. Indonesian people have a contagious sincerity in there smiles. They do not see many tourist (or at least not in a long time due to all the troubles)in the area that I was in so they almost have a child ...
Singapore, Singapore johnnynomad... comfortable. The highlight for us was that we had our very own valet at the press of a button. Now at first we thought this is crazy what will we use her for but suddenly our ability to delegate kicked in, we lay in our enormous bed dreaming up jobs. Job one. David ordered some tattinger, got to be done darlings. Our valet arrived with it in five minutes flat. Fantastic. We then chilled out and got ready for our first ...
SINGAPORE, Malaysia daveandlainey... fund their work. I am still not quite sure what they actually do? The other residents were not quite normal they sat around in their matching dressing gowns and one lady said she was recovering from a rare disease? Apart from the weirdos and the sign above the ladies toilets? (check out photo)it was fine and situated in the heart of the Colonial area. SATURDAY 20TH MAY 06 exploring the city immediately you notice how clean and organised it is. There is not a a single ...
Singapore, Malaysia lisastravel... Mmm... As I was leaving my friend even passed me his email address! I gave him a MAGGY'S card and we parted ways! Again Little India was absolutely packed with people - Indians who have come to work in Singapore and earn the stronger dollar. As they are all male workers and their common day off is Sunday it is basically a big party where they control the streets, traffic and atmosphere! It's all harmless, just ...
Little India and Geylang, Singapore jingles... of weakness... 'Right!' he exclaimed. In his burly ways he voiced some words in Mandarin and ushered me to a bench where some of his workers attended to me... The Oracle is a Chinese Medicine Man. ...and boy is he good! The experience was fantastic! Having been to many massage therapists and physiothrapists before, this has been the most advantageous. I must say I was a bit skeptical to start with though. When the Oracle asked me what was wrong I told him about ...
Haig Road, Singapore jingles... he realised that the guy was gone. Somehow, he still tried to do CPR and another friend of mine helped out. No reaction. One of my girl friend touched his pulse and awhile later, she looked at me and I understood the signal she gave me. He was gone. The guy's friend suddenly shouted again "There is another one of my friend! He is still out there!". They all looked at the rough sea water. Suddenly, the guy showed a sign of life. His chest was pumping. I shouted "He is still ...
