    ... this is a short flight!

    We departed at 10:34 (four minutes late) and took off at 10:48 from Runway 1, a great view of the city out the right windows. Here we go – my last world travel adventure has commenced. I read The Washington Post during the flight. We had a bumpy descent toward Fort Lauderdale, made worse by the kids behind me kicking the seat and screaming.

    ... San Juan River. We take a lot of photos of Monument Valley, the canyon, rock outcrops like zigurats and pyramids, and the escarpment down which uranium and vanadium ore from a mine on top at Cedar Mesa was hauled for treatment at Mexican Hat. We were a bit worried about whether we could take the hire car on this dirt road, but we were glad we did as the views were magnificent. We then return on the same road, to drive down the Moki Dugway.
