    Day 9. This morning I woke in sunny downtown San Diego and walked to a quaint little coffee shop with Laura for breakfast before she went off to class for a few hours.     Because if I hadn't decided to change my flights I would now have been on my route to... Costa Rica indeed. Instead I will arrive there on Monday afternoon and I just hope that will give them enough time to recover. In any case, I think the presence of the windmill today was a lucky sign.     Started our trek up the coast to investigate the California beaches. Started at the Cabrillo National Monument and lighthouse. Took a walk down to the water to check out the tide pools at low tide but we didn't see any marine life from our spot on the rocks and it was a little tricky getting down the rocks any further.
