Historical Traveler Reviews of Grand Key Resort Key West
Great Hotel, Great Price

The Grand Key was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in!
Truthfully, I don't think I've ever stayed somewhere this CLEAN! The pool is fabulous and the rooms are comfortable. I only have a few downers to report:
1. The Beach Club is a joke! It is literally a bunch of chairs and umbrellas on a public beach. But, if you're going to Key West, you probably know not to waste your time at the beach because they are not lush and tropical.
2. The shuttle service is not very reliable, because they don't have a system for getting on. We would arrive 20 minutes before hand, and people would just walk right up when the shuttles came and jump on ahead of us. Until they got a system in place, the best policy is to arrive early and out-rude the rude.
3. For the most part, the housekeeping was terrific. However, at the end of the stay, we got a new maid who was too busy flirting in the hallway to make up the rooms properly. She did such a crummy job, that I didn't even think the room had been cleaned until my sister mentioned it! We complained about her, and she gave a half-hearted apology. The next day, she still did a crummy job on the rooms -- obviously this girl doesn't learn a lesson. To top it all off, some of my neice's clothes and my watch turned up missing. Seems a little too coincidental...
Other than that, great place and great prices.
The doubletree is excellent....

Just returned from Key West and stayed at the Doubletree, excellent hotel! Very clean and nicely decorated rooms, friendly staff, beautiful pool area and the resturant food was not bad either. The cleaning staff is quite slow with room cleaning but we were out of the room during most of the day anyway. Upon check-in the kids were given a backpack and we all got a warm chocolate chip cookie. The shuttle service provides transportation to downtown on the hour and transportation back 20 minutes after the hour, which is good because parking can be a problem downtown and expensive.
If you are visiting Key West for the beaches, I'm afraid you may be dissapointed. The beaches are very small, seaweed and rocks all over the place and the water was muddy. Smathers Beach does smell of sewer as another trip advisor reviewer mentioned. We later learned that the water was contaminated, glad the kids only put their feet in that day!
Overall we would highley recomend the Doulbetree Grand Key Resort.

Nice hotel

I stayed at the Doubletree for a weekend in June. The hotel was very nice. Rooms were clean and service was good. The pool looked nice but I never got a chance to use it. The Doubletree is away from everything but a short ride into town. Parking was a problem in town though. I would stay at this resort again if in Key West.
Loved it, would go back in a minute

Stayed here with the family and loved it. Clean, comfortable, spacious room. Pool was a hit with the kids and the weather went with it. Drinks could be had at the pool quite easily from friendly staff. We had a rental car and drove to one of the parking garages downtown (10 minutes). Excellent relaxing place to stay.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Doubletree during the last week in April. Let me preface my review by saying that I am 28 and she is 25. More or less, we were looking for a place to just relax. Overall, we were not impressed with the Doubletree's accommodations. Here's a run-down of the good and bad:Good: Rooms were clean; Prices were reasonable considering this is Key West; Tess, the server around the pool, was very friendly and fast.Bad: With the exception of Tess (see above), service at the restaurant and front desk were HORRIBLE. Those people acted like they were doing you a favor just to acknowledge you; The location is far from the downtown area; There is no beach nearby; Unless you love other people's kids yelling and splashing everywhere, you won't relax near the pool; Maid service usually did not arrive until 3-4pm each day.Bottomline: Unless you have kids with you, I would not recommend staying at the Doubletree.
Loved the Doubletree

Our stay at the Doubletree was absolutly wonderful. Our room was very clean and the colors were so calming. We enjoyed the outside bar, especially the bartender, Mike. He gave us his list of places to go, and we were very pleased to find he was right, every place was great. The pool area was nice also, but we weren't there for the pool, we wanted to be out seeing Key West. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. There is a shuttle that takes you downtown or to Smathers beach every half hour, which is great since you don't want to drive into town. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

The Doubletree is a beautiful property on the quiet side of the island. The bartender at the pool is informative and friendly. He even has his own printed list of the best places to dine and see in Key West. (Mike's picks) The hotel is located far from the active night life of Downtown but it has a free shuttle to just about everywhere you want to be that runs every hour. (Downtown, beach, Airport) The rooms were large and well appointed with a nice island theme and a balcony . This hotel is well worth the money.
Not too shabby !

I stayed at the Grand Key resort for a stormy weekend in February 2002. The resort is very nice, very clean with friendly staff, a nice buffet for breakfast and a nice bar. The gym is small, but nicely equiped and the pool is large enough so that people aren't on top of one another. The hotel is near the airport, but I was never bothered by plane noise.
My only complaint is the location - if you're looking for a beach or to be near the center of town, this is not the place for you. Expect a 10 - 15 minute drive to Key West proper if you have a rental car - taxi's or shuttles are available.
The Grand is a nice relaxing place to get away, if you want to hang by the pool, or to use a base for exploring this end of the Keys.

I would recommend this resort to anyone coming to Key West. The rooms look just like the picture on the internet. The colors are warm and inviting, and the huge salt water aquarium in the lobby is beautiful. Everyone at the resort were very nice and very helpful. The shuttle service they offer was wonderful. It takes you downtown and will pick you up and bring you to the airport. Every driver we met was kind and helped my wife get out of the van. The thing my wife enjoyed the most was getting a fresh warm cookie when we checked in. The grounds were kept very clean, and it is a energy efficient resort because every time you open the door to the balcony the air conditioner will turn off. If and when we come back to Key West we will definitely stay here again.
