I got off to have a stretch and go to the toilet and when I sat back down she didn't sit next to me. So I got a good few hours of sleep and space. I made my way down to Natives beach ...

... State. This was the first time I've ever stayed on a plane while they refuelled and boarded a whole new set of passengers. I had hoped I'd manage a kip but no such luck and landed on an overcast morning in Porto Seguro where the air was tangibly moist and the Swiss team had their World Cup base.

After paying a whopping 60 Reals (18) for a cab to my hostel which appeared to be about as far away from anything as a thing could be I met the owner Paul, a jolly ...

... 3 lads, the owner brought us an extra mattress so we'd effectively have a bed each - Rees drawing the double - and we made ourselves at home. We spent the next 2 days exploring the small town and hanging out on the beach. We watched the Australia Netherlands game, which featured Tim Cahill's cracking goal, in a small bar on the beach next to 5 Aussies, Foz bought everything he could from sellers on the beach until he was literally cashless, we chatted to a few locals who loved ...
