What goes up must come down

... We awoke to the sound of, "I&#8217;m taking my long johns off, and can you pass the Vaseline!"<br><br>Breakfast was a riot as we recounted this quote loudly to the other &#8216;lads&#8217;. Our &#8216;rest day&#8217; was a 4 hour trek backtracking to Chromrong via Bamboo and Sinuwa. The Bamboo forest smelled as though it hid a plant of more potency in several areas. We past many porters carrying over 30kg everything from gas to chickens firewood to tomatoes ...

Up up up and more up

31st October 2009 &#8211; Halloween Nepal<br><br>A lazy morning with 9am start we were met by Hom and Dhan our guide and porter respectively, feeling sorry for the porter I lent him my main backpack as we whittled our kit down to one. Five of us squeezed into the smallest Suzuki car I have ever seen with packs tied to the roof and headed off up towards the Himalayas! Over the next hour with the car bottoming out I managed to work out some of the 360 page instruction ...

River Seti rafting

We decided to go rafting on the River Seti which is a two day, one night trip. The river has class 2-3 rapids, ideal for beginners and its a warm water river with really great views. It was also pretty useful as the end of the river is only an hour from our last stop in Nepal, Chitwan National Park. <br> <br>After another early morning start, we met the other rafters who were two Scots ...

Annapurna Circuit

... to get our breath back. After a couple of hours and seeing the sunrise we stopped at the last hut serving drinks to have a little break. This is when it all went down hill for Emma. The sun had come up but it was so cold with really deep snow everywhere, even our drinking water froze. We struggled on for a couple more hours but were stopping so often it felt like we weren't actually moving. Our bodies just wanted to give up and Em felt really really ...

Okay...so I wimped out!!

... time to pull the sandals free of the mud than to push the motor- bike free!<br><br>Everywhere we went there was evidence of preparation for the festival. This is the equivalent of Christmas for the Nepali people. They all try to get home to their villages and celebrate as a whole family. New clothes are purchased for the occasion and goats sacrificed! It seems that even houses get a new lick of whitewash for the occasion as evidenced by a couple of women ...

I don't want to go back down :-(

... to get to Pheriche where we're spending the night. I didn't want to take a break every hour or wait for anyone. Deana accepted and Pemba and I left ahead of the rest of the group. Even though I had only one thought in mind (getting to Pheriche, laying on a bench and sleeping) I could not help but admiring the amazing valley we were in. We had not come up that way. It looked like a pastel painting. We passed by the memorial area. We saw some adorable baby yaks ...

Cross country bus to Nepal

... a road barrier that was half-raised and entered Nepal. The formalities on the Nepali side of the border were efficient and conducted with good cheer. The immigration officials didn't seem to mind at all dealing with a group of bus-weary travellers in the night, most of whom had to be talked through their entry application forms and some of whom had to be taken off and photographed, not being in possession of the requisite passport sized photos. This must all have been a far cry from ...
