Historical Traveler Reviews Frangipani Beach Resort Anguilla
A little piece of heaven
We just returned from a week at Frangipani Beach Club. We went here for our wedding. First of all, the staff did more than an awesome job. we called about 6 months prior to arriving and told them what we wanted and they delivered. For about $1500 we got a wedding coordinator from the resort who took care of all the arragements for us prior to arrival. She book the photograper, Videoographer, florist, cake, singer and guisterist as well as the priest and getting us to and from the court house for the marriage license. We did not have any family there and 15 minutes before the wedding one of the staff memebers came to my suite to make sure I was ok and to see if I needed any help getting ready. They are truly awesome there as far as service. The wedding was on the beach and the owner of the resort made a very nice wedding arch only steps away from the water. They decorated our dinner table with flowers and a candle and maked it was a gold plated reserved sign. If you want to get married in one of the most beautiful places in the world for hardly any work or stress and for a out of this world price...Frangipani Beach Club is the place.
Now as far as the room, well WOW it was hugh. we had the 1 bedroom suite which was a living room, fully equiped kitchen, power room, sperate bedroom with a full bath and two balconies. It was a ocean front and I mean ocean front. From both balconies you were steps away from the white sandy beach and the beautiful ocean. Ask for room A6A. It has the best view of the hotel. We had the Spa and Indulgance package which was the best deal. It included breakfast and lunch which was a hugh cost savings, one dinner, two 1 hour full body massages, a facial, and a body wrap, as well as a yoga lesson and a excerise lesson. However, since we were getting married we only took advantage of the massages and facial. We stayed at Cap Juluca the second week for our honeymoon b/c we heard great things. When we got there we were very disappointed. The price was double that of Frangipani and we had a MUCH smaller room. Ground level...waiting at the resturants (upwards of an hour) Pricing for lunch was that of Frangipani's 3 course dinner. Forget dinner at Cap Juluca it will cost you a min of $160 and that's without alochol. Anyway, if you want to go to Anguilla, then you must stay at Frangipani, but only if your looking for the best price for your money and you like privacy while in the islands. There is little to do at Frangipani, there are only 16 suites so even when the hotel is book solid it feels like your the only one there. There was many times when it was my husband and I on the beach or at the pool or even in their resturant. So be prepared for that. However, only a short cab ride away is night life so that's always an option. We will be going back soon.
Note: When you go to Anguilla no matter where you stay....be prepared to pay HIGH prices for the cabs. The best bet is to rent a car for the week which is only $240 as compared to a 1/4 mile cab ride for $20 each way.
Frangipani is the place to go be it a wedding, a vacation or a honeymoon. It's a must see.
We loved Anguilla and Frangipani!
We have just returned from a week at the Frangipani Beach Club in Anguilla. We LOVED it and would highly recommend Anguilla and Frangipani to others. Anguilla is beautiful, its people are VERY welcoming, and the beaches are fantastic.
Frangipani was exactly what we were looking for - very friendly, laid back and quiet. My husband and I took our 16 month old daughter and my parents (who doubled as babysitters). We wanted a location right on the water that would give everyone their own living space and allow us to do some cooking. Our unit was a fully air-conditioned, 3 bedroom, 4 bath (everyone gets their own full bath plus an additional full bath in the general living area) with a kitchen and living room. The living room and one of the bedrooms have large doors that open directly to a path that leads to the beach. We were on the beach in about fifteen steps, where Frangipani provides chairs, umbrellas, water floats and beach towels. Frangipani also has a restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace, both of which sit right on the beach. Continental breakfast was included in our room rate (a pleasant surprise). Although the selection was limited (fresh fruit, freshly baked muffins/croissants/pastries, toast and jelly, cereal, juice, coffee and tea), it was tasty and a real money saver. There is also a large pool (very nice) that sits about 100 yards from the beach behind the restaurant, which seemed to be heated. It has a swim-up bar and grill, but none of the pool services were offered at the time we visited (maybe the off season?). This did not bother us, but someone looking for more action should look elsewhere.
Our beach location on Meads Bay was magnificent! The water was 100 feet from our door and the most beautiful we have seen - better than Jamaica, Cozumel, St. Thomas, St. John or Cayman. On Anguilla, we found that Meads Bay beach is second only to Shoal Bay east, which is a must see (recently voted number one in the world). The water was crystal clear, unbelievably blue, and calm. We traveled during the off-season, so the beach was deserted (maybe a dozen people at most). The surf was gentle enough to allow our daughter to romp without injury, but it gets deep (3 to 5 feet) fairly quickly. Dolphin discovery is at one end of the mile long beach, which my daughter loved. You can swim with the dolphins for around $150 or just go and watch others for free. The dolphins are a mere 2 feet from observers. The other end of Meads Bay is occupied by the Malliouhana Resort and Spa. We walked to Malli several times and liked what we saw - very kid friendly with lots of entertainment for guests. However, it was much more populated that Frangipani and does not offer 3 bedrooms or kitchens, at least as far as we could tell.
Here are the only negatives, which are the reason we did not give Anguilla and Frangi all 5 stars:
First, with respect to Frangipani, our washer and dryer were extremely small and did not work well at all. Hopefully they will update soon. Also, the kitchen is not equipped with either a disposal or a dishwasher, both of which we take for granted in the states. However, these were minor inconveniences. Finally, there were several young couples on their honeymoons that checked in during our stay. We made friends with one of them, but noticed they disappeared after a few days. On our last day, we ran into them at Malli and learned that they elected to move because they were bored at Frangipani and Malli has much more to offer in terms of water sports, restaurants, the spa, etc. We were not looking for such activities, but others may want to take it into consideration. Frangipani is very quite!
Second, with respect to Anguilla in general, it's EXPENSIVE (averaging anywhere from $15 to $35 per person for a meal) and the food selection is limited at best. In particular, quality meat and dairy products are hard to come by even in the grocery stores. The food at the restaurants is good, but pricy, and most places (except Frangipani) were not equipped to handle a 16 month old (not a complaint, just a fact). After some searching, we found several reasonable spots (such as Gee Wee's Bakery which was just up the road), and resigned ourselves to cooking prepackaged stuff (spaghetti, mac and cheese, etc). Upon our return, we all ordered a huge steak! A word to the wise, I would definitely recommend sticking to seafood when dining out on the island. All other meat was extremely suspect.
Finally, it's a long haul to Anguilla. We flew from KC to Ft. Lauderdale to San Juan to Anguilla. There is only one flight into Anguilla on American, which limited our travel options, so it took nearly two full days of travel both coming and going. You can fly into St. Martin and take a ferry to the island, which we considered. But, having now visited St. Martin and witnessing the ferry process, we are extremely glad we did not go with this option. If you are traveling light (only one or two bags (a carry on and a suitcase) per person), it could work. But with children or any extra luggage, it would be a HUGE pain.
In all, our beach was so lovely it was hard to drag ourselves away to return home. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great time!
Had a magical time
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Frangipani. We went during the off season and had the beautiful beach almost completely to ourselves. The staff was friendly.
The island has absolutely fantastic restaurants. We'll be back!
Luxury & Tranquility
We have just returned from a week at Frangipani. To say it was relaxing would be an understatement! The setting right on Meads Bay beach is wonderful, clear aqua sea and gentle waves. The rooms are well equipped, and we had a lovely sea view from our Super Deluxe room. The restaurant has a lovely setting overlooking the beach, but we ventured out and can strongly recommend Corals (just along the beach, and overlooking the dolphin reserve), Tasty's, Flavours and Smokeys. Book in for a swim with the dolphins it's a fantastic experience, and hiring a car for a few days is recommended too. We will be going back, as soon as we get an opportunity.
Better than advertised...
My husband and I just returned from a spectacular vacation to Anguilla. We went there looking for a week of peace and quiet. That's exactly what we got! Frangipani was beautiful and better in person than expected. The first thing my husband said to me is that they need to update their website. It just doesn't do it justice. We had a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen. We were just feet away from gorgeous Meads Bay, which we feel really is the best beach on the island. We really enjoyed our vacation and we feel that our hotel choice was a key reason for it.
Frangiapani,,,,,,,,,closest place to heaven

The Frangiapani Hotel '' A great hotel on a fabulous beach''
Susan & myself were holidaying in Antigua when we decided to visit Anquilla. We made arrangements to stay at the Frangiapani Hotel over a 5 day period in November 03 & wish we had stayed longer. The Frangiapani is situated right on the most marvellous Meads Bay beach, which in my opinion is quite stunning. The hotel is extremely well run, with efficient & courteous staff, who deal with requests promptly. The rooms are spacious & well appointed. We visited at the start of the tourist season & unfotunately the hotel restaurant wasn't open for dinner. However, there are some fabulous restaurants on the Island which cater for all tastes. Recommended are Olivers, Blanchard's & The Straw Hat to name but a few. The main Restaurants are a little 'pricey', but there are others to suit your pocket. The Frangiapani has a nice pool, which we almost had to ourselves. While we were there, a new development was being built next door, so I don't know whether that will impact on the fabulous setting & tranquillity the Frangiapani offered. The people of Anquilla are welcoming, hospitable & appear genuinely pleased to meet you. You aren't pestered on the beach by 'vendors' & 'jet skies' etc aren't permitted. As a base, Anguilla offers easy access to other islands(St Marten, a 30 minute ferry boat crossing). The reason I am writing this review is because it's coming around to holiday time again & our consideration is to re visit Anquilla, but for a longer period. We were extemely happy with our stay at The Frangiapani & would highly recommend the hotel.
Great hotel on beautiful beach
Going to Anguilla and staying at the Frangipani was the best decision we could have made for our vacation. My boyfriend and I just returned and we truly had the time of our lives. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are huge, bright and clean with 2 bathrooms, 2 terraces, a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. Our bedroom had a king size bed and a huge cathedral ceiling. Every room is ocean front with a view of Mead's Bay, the most beautiful beach on the island, in my opinion. The staff at Frangipani was courteous and helpful. There was so much privacy at the resort but when you did feel like socializing, there were always other couples around to chat with. Most often people discussed what restaurants they had been to because the restaurants in Anguilla are not only plentiful but the majority are phenomenal! We never had a bad meal or poor service. We loved the Frangipani's restaurant and highly recommend the Warm Mozzarella and Tomato appetizer and the Filet Mignon stuffed with Foie Gras entree. There are other larger, more extravagant resorts on the island that are amazing, but they are twice the price and are not situated on as nice of a beach as The Frangipani. If you choose Frangipani, you will not regret it!
We truly loved it!
The Frangipani was a truly wonderful experience. If you're looking to stay in a smaller hotel with less people and seclusion, this is the place for stay on the island. We were upgraded to the penthouse suite when we arrived, and it's spacious rooms made our stay so perfect. Although, any room would have done the same. The restaurant provided delicious meals and the staff was so friendly. The beach was empty. Ours were the only footsteps on the sand except for that of a sea turtle who came up one night. We loved being able to walk on the beach to restaurants nearby. Strolling under the moonlight and making our way back to the blush pink palace was truly romantic. We'd definitely visit again.
The best ever....
I can't find a better place. After years of travel this is truly the best island and resort. If you want nothing to do and no one to bother you this is the place. 7 years now and i will be there again.
