... have an amazing view from Colline du Chateau. On saturday (November 28) we had sunshine and 19 degrees (end of November) and I was even swimming in the sea (15 gegrees), on sunday, November 29 we had rain and thunderstorms so that caused a delay of the plane of three hours. Best breakfast in town you find in "Les pains a tables" close to the market. Nice is a city I´d love to visit once a year minimum.....
Nice, Provence, France tilman... Not only have the donations received already far exceeded my expectations, but the kind words and general interest and support that I have received have been amazing. So thank you all. It is all very much appreciated and I can't believe that between us we really will change these little lives. It is my motto here in Antibes, but this is the ultimate "think globally; act locally ...
... the Contiki group in a local restaurant, followed by some drinking games in a pub! All good fun really. As it was getting quite late (and I need my beauty sleep) I went to bed, whilst Mark took a trip to another casino. He didn't get in until about 3.30am all drunk! He swears he got lost on the way home for an hour but I reckon he was just enjoying himself too much to sleep. He was a bit rough on the journey the following day!
Nice, Provence, France markandnoma2009... and just a main for Dee. This way, we could share the entree and dessert, without breaking the bank. For our entree we chose salad nicoise, as we figured when in Rome.... it was very nice (no pun intended) and Dee is already pumped to make it back home.
Thus concluded our stay on the French Riviera, a place we have definitely earmarked as somewhere to come back to, however we'll make sure its summer next time (and Dee will get a tan before arriving, so as not to offend the locals). Next stop, Barcelona.
Leave from nice on the Chemins de fer de Province (diesel train) to Touet-sur-Var. And then the steam train to Entrevaux, city with amazing views. On the way back a quick stop in Puget-Théniers.
My camera battery died once we hit Entrevaux so no photos :(
... the worst homesickness I had ever known.
As the first week drew to a close, however, I ultimately accepted the situation. Actually, I had once read an article which used research from recent disasters and crises (an example used was being stranded at sea) to deduce the common qualities in the people who managed to survive. One such quality in these people was their acceptance of the gravity of their particular situation, acknowledging that yes, they were stuck ...
... Sunday was a quieter day, and we returned for a closer look at Antibes and Cannes. Antibes has a lovely central market where we sampled socca, a kind of chickpea crepe and local delicacy. Cannes is hosting a Christmas festival with rides, fairy floss and so on - it was totally packed and super noisy and crazy. Far less ordered than the Melbourne or Sydney shows. We took a ride on the ferris wheel and got some great photos across the water and the town ...
Nice, France davenic... this point, we were ready for a dip in the Mediterranean to cool off! After several trips we settled into our street-side room, cranked on the Air Conditioning and agreed that our bathroom should also be entered into the Guinness Book for the smallest in the world (not much bigger than the elevator!). We think that this particular hotel meets all the needs we have been looking for in a hotel, except the small bathroom: free wireless connection, powerful ...
Villefranche sur mer, France rlineuropeOn July 2nd we arrived in Nice, France at 8AM after a 10 hour train ride. We walked with our heavy packs to Hotel Les Alizes and arrived at 10AM. The room was like a mini sauna. At noon we visited the Marc Chagall Museum. There ...
