Just Renovated Paradise
from Mark&Marylou
My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights from 9/28/06 to 10/4/06. To our surprise and delight the hotel had just re-opened on 9/15 following a year of renovations after the tsunami, which devastated many of the resorts including this one.
Everything about the resort was absolutely perfect from the very first impression. We were whisked away by speedboat from Male airport for a 30 min ride to the resort where the front desk manager immediately greeted us and looked out for us throughout the stay.
We stayed at a Beach Pavilion which was just right for two people. The highlights of the room were the awesome king size bed, fresh water plunge pool, huge bathtub (for two) and two showers including one outdoor. The interior deco was very contemporary with a Maldivian touch and of course untouched! I suggest place on the sunset side. You will never wake up for the sunrise.
Th fresh water swimming pool was great and a must have at any resort!
The service was impeccable. We had minor problems with the room (e.g. dead light bulbs) but engineering responded within 10 mins each time, with a smile. I happened to spend my b-day there and was greeted with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY at breakfast by the manager and waiters. The front desk even surprised me with a beautifully wrapped batik box with card.
I think this will be the best resort in the Maldives as of November 1st when the Four Seasons at Landaa Giraavaru will open. They will have an activity where you can fly from Kuda Huraa to Landaa Giraavaru by sea plane and enjoy the facilities for one day. Also, they will have a program where you can spend 2 nights at Landaa, 1 night on the Four Seasons Explorer Cruise and 2 nights in Kudaa. This sounds adventurous but you may lose the chance to relax. Also Landaa requires a plane to get there and they will not transfer you at night. Keep this in mind.
Fantastic Honeymoon

We were there for our Honeymoon and stayed for a week. Wow, what a fantastic week. We stayed in the water bungalows, which were beautiful and woke up to a green blue sea and blue sky merging in the horizon every morning. We had the peace and quite that we wanted. Privacy was priority. The service was beyond excellent. The staff catered to our every whim. I don't think they know how to say "No". But this is exactly what we expect from the Four Seasons Resorts.
The food was also beyond comparison. Paying for full board with your accomodation is well worth it. Room service breakfast and lunch on our balcony was the best part of the day. Great oysters and funnily enough they are from Sydney, Australia. :)
Enough activites and beach area are offered so there is no time for idleness.
Will be going back again very soon, once they re-open.
Perfect honeymoon!!

From the first moments when we were brought to the beautiful lobby, to awesome water bungalow suite where we snorkled in aquarium like water right off our private deck where we saw fish of every color, size and design, to the surreal scuba diving, to the delicious food at the restaurants (indian, italian and asian & awseome breakfast buffet), to the great service by all the staff who are mostly maldivian, to the lucious spa, the overall ambiance, views & experience was worth every penny (we paid about $800 a night u.s., we were there 6 nights and they take the us dollar which is great), we are going back when we can get away that long since it took about two days to fly there from florida (we live on the ocean). from there we went to venice for a week. It was the honeymoon & trip of a lifetime. We were there from Nov 29, 2004 to Dec 6, 2004 - 20 days prior to Tsunami.
Perfect Honeymoon Feb 2004

We stayed for 10 nights in a water bungalow, and everything was perfect. Nothing could be faulted, the staff were attentive without being in your face and would do anything for you. I would jump at the chance to go back there again, if i could afford it (but it was worth every penny)
Best choice to experience heaven on earth

We spent 5 nights at a water bungalow at Four Seasons Maldives in April 2002. The location is wonderful and the resort is excellent. The staff is very attentive and helpful. There are three restaurants but the variety of food might not satisy everyone. The water bungalows were large and well designed but the premises need some kind of refurbishment or overhauling. The AC of the room was very noisy and we could not turn it on during nights. The bathroom looked old and outdated. Daily activities keep you busy throughout the day and the spa is a MUST.
Great staff

The negatives first. The bathrooms were a disappointment and let down an otherwise attractive, if not exceptional, room. They were built 10 years ago and really do not stand up to the competition. The services are somewhat dated - the AC was noisy and the taps knocked. We had a bungalow with plunge pool. I wouldn't go for the pool again - it wasn't worth the huge supplement and there's not sufficient privacy or shade.
Now the positives. The facilities on the beach and by the pool were very good and there is so much capacity you hardly notice that there are probably 200 guests when full. The food really was excellent and didn't trade on its captive audience. The staff, though, are what make the resort. They are excellent - very well trained and clued up - fully in tune with the Four Seasons philosophy. The resort must treat them really well for them to respond like that.
Honeymoon at the four seasons
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is beautiful. We stayed in the water bungalows which I highly recommend - if you are going to spend the money to go to the four seasons you might as well spend a little more and stay in the over the water bungalows. We just wanted some R and R and time alone after the wedding. They said the balconies are private, but they are not completely as your neighbor can see right over.
The service was first class. Everyone was so nice and remembered you the next time they saw you, but I wouldn't expect anything less from the four seasons. They are building a new resort in a few months so I would definitely check the new one out since this one is smaller than most of the other resorts.
As for the food- my husband and I did not think the food was amazing. The breakfast was the same everyday at the restaurant by the pool (I recommend it for breakfast), but it was an amazing buffet. There are four restaurants - one which serves indian food, one serves italian food, one serves seafood and a barbecue place. The food is good but not great.
Some of the hotels have a plane that takes you to their hotel. The Four Seasons is close enough to the airport that you are taken by boat.
Overall - the service, the hotel and the island is amazing. There is not a tremendous amount of beach, but enough to be satisfied and it is beautiful. The sand is soft and the water is clear blue, calm and warm. We saw stingrays snorkeling not a few yards from shore and at night swimming under our bungalows! Breathtaking...
The maldives is beautiful. Beware - the coral is mostly dead from El nino so scuba diving in the maldives is not what it used to be. Research it before you go.
The Explorer is very "James Bond"
from A TripAdvisor Member
This resort was wonderful - it was on a large enough island that you did not feel too sea-bound and you have the option of a land or water villa - we had a room in a little villa just off the beach with its own courtyard just steps from the sea. You had a choice of sitting on the beach or by the pool with seaviews. The gym was well equipped, and the service was excellent. There was a good choice of water sports to hand, including diving and sea-kayaking, and the spa was incredible - on its own tiny island that you are escorted to on your own little Dhoni. But the best part of the resort is the Four Seasons Explorer - we spent 3 nights at the island and 3 nights on the Explorer which was a good balance - the Explorer is very James Bond - a 38-foot catamaran on 4 levels - you hop from island to island with full diving and snorkeling services - the food was wonderful and the rooms spacious and comfortable - with down duvets and full bathroom and shower facilities. We took a seaplane back to the island after our 3-days on the Explorer and that was an incredible experience. Overall I would recommend this resort.
Fantastic Experience

We decided to go to Maldives for our honeymoon and knowing very little about the country itself, decided on the Four Seasons.
From the moment we were picked up from the airport we knew we had made the best choice!
The staff was excellent. Always a step ahead of thier guests in anticipating their needs. The breakfast and all meals were exceptional. Special requests were never an issue. The rooms were very spacious and tastefully decorated. The pool was always a sanctuary...and if thats not enough there are a lot of activities the hotel can arrange..including a romantic dinner on a private island!!!
