Today we visited an underground iron Mine at Soudan. Interesting tour. We went down on the lift about half a mile and went on a train on the old ore train track. It closed in 1962 and was supposed to be a safe mine. the original workers were paid 3 times the rate to entice them there. they had to supply all their own tools and were paid piecework - the amount of ore that they dug out. We drove to International Falls which is on the border with Canada. It is on Rainy Lake which is lovely. A nice town and we had a walk around, had coffee at a lovely cafe and drove on to a bog lake near Pelican Lake at Orr. it was peat and had a floating boardwalk.
