A Brief Sojourn in the Highlands of the Canadian Rockies!

The location is very special and the views are magnificent. This hotel is styled on an old Scottish castle. Very impressive but absolutely huge and much larger than any castle we have come across in Scotland! Our room was large and comfortable with all the expected facilities. Unfortunately they weren't very good at topping up tissues, toilet paper and tea bags but we have noticed the same problem at the other Fairmont hotels we have stayed in during our visit to Canada. There is a fantastic array of restaurants, but don't set your heart on dining in any particular one of them because you are more likely than not to find it is closed for a function! Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay very much. The service was generally very good and the servers polite and friendly. The overall feel was historic and a bit special, well worth a visit.

This hotel is amazing. Our first room was 220 sq ft and too small. Then we upgraded and felt much better. Staff is great, views fabulous, and food is very good.

This is an amazing hotel, rooms large, amazing views of the Rockies. Outdoor heated pool to relax in while soaking I. The incredible scenery.
Every sort of shop and restraint is here too, 15 min walk, or a bus out front, to the centre of town

We started the day with a fun talk from a real Canadian Mountie then went on a sightseeing tour on our way to Banff. The first stop was seeing the Spiral Tunnels from the lookout, we then went down the big hill that lead us to the actual Emerald Lake, the water is darker in colour to Lake Louise and more a real emerald colour. The last stop in this …

We had a really good sleep, a really good breakfast, and again walked out a mile to full, never mind we still keep eating. This being our spare day, we were picked up from the Banff hotel at 0930 on this lovely bus and driven very well and capabily by Kim a very pleasant lady and driven to the edge of the Dow River, where we boarded rather large …

We bid farewell to our lovely Lake Louise hotel and boarded the bus for the short trip to Banff. On the way we visited Emerald Lake and the Natural Bridge. This is a solid granite rock formation shaped like a bridge.

Upon arrival in Banff we travelled on the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulfur Mountain. Very steep ascent to a very high …

      Exploring the Castle

A travel blog entry by simonandamanda on Jun 26, 2014

We set off to explore this large and imposing castle hotel which seems to be a city in itself. Past the castle pantry in which all the food is very much do-it-yourself and involves great skill with the microwave, we moved on through the lobby where the lady with the harp was in full swing. We decided to find all the restaurants (no mean feat in …
