After spending the spring and summer at our Ananda Church retreats in both northern California and Oregon, it's time to go out and explore the great expanse of the west.

We don't have reservations anywhere for the next couple months so will head east over the high Sierra's through northern Nevada into southeastern Idaho to explore a bit, then into the Wyoming Tetons and Wind river range ...

The small town is only about a mile from the trail. I set up camp by the local church. I had my cold shower ...

... is that the water sources are getting more far apart. Leaving Sierra City, the has a water report for the next 500 miles. Gotta be water conscious again like in the desert. The trail was less crowded today and I was happy about that. The July 4th crowd vanished or was perhaps hung over. Not many PCTers either. They were probably hungover too or in food coma from the July 4th parties. Many PCTers made it a point to be in town to party. I was done by 7pm ...

... asked back to lead a lichen walk sometime in 2014.

We stayed at the fairgrounds and it was nice under the trees. The air-conditioning worked well. There was a lake you could walk around.

Attached are some photos of lichens Pam found in the area. These do not grow in the ...
