Elmina Bay Days
A driver has taken me the 200 miles down the coast on a surprisingly well-made main road.
Reaching Elmina, and passing through what some might call its chaotic shambles (and others might call its bustling enterprise), on we go, a mile outside the town on the Takoradi road, then down a red laterite track. The track leads past a high school …
First Day
Reading day by the blue pool.
The best book on the history of Elmina seems to be one by a writer called Ato Ashun. I'm not sure it’s the best researched history (he writes "hundreds of millions of Africans were taken in the transatlantic slave trade" – whereas most estimates, which are still shocking of course, are that ten …
Awaaba (welcome)
Who knows about Ghana? Not I... this is the only the second time I have been in sub-Saharan Africa, and the first was in Ethiopia, a very different country I suspect.

I've stayed at the Elmina Bay three times on various trips, and have always been well pleased. The owner and his wife are friendly and helpful, and their buildings are new and well maintained. The restaurant is decent, and has a variety of native and international foods. It is a good deal for the price!
