The best fishing experince i ever had
I just have to start out by saying this resort is incredible. This resort is huge, but the facilites are all walking distance. Our second day there, we decided to go fishing, it was our first time sea fishing, they have a catch and release policy for the salt fish. My husband caught a marlin, and it took him 45min to get this beautiful fish in the boat, the colors of the marlin were breath taking. We will definately do this again. After a long day of fishing we took the marlin to the Marnia restaurant, and they prepared it for us 3 different ways. As we ate, we could see the boats entering into the marnia, and the waiter informed us that if next year we wanted to bring our boat down we could dock it at the marnia. We did visit the other properties of the El Cid, we are excited to come back next year and bring our children as this resort has a varitey of activites for every memeber of our family. Come to the El Cid and enjoy an experience of a lifetime.
Incredible Experience. I'll be back!!!
My girlfriend and I decided to brave Mazatlan without the hubbys. WOW!
From the moment when we arrived we we awed. The lobby was lovely. We were approached once and only once about attending a time share breakfast and they accepted our decline. The grounds are beautiful, flowers and greenery everywhere. Our room was on the top floor, and they will drive you to your room if the walk is too long. We had a kitchenette, and there was a small grocery store there at the marina for coffee and snacks, at acceptable prices. The happy hour was a bargain, and we went all of our nights there first to start our fiesta.
The room was HUGE, a junior suite with a sitting area and balcony. The one complaint we had was it never got quite cool enough in our room, and we were there in January. The shower could hold 8 people. Very clean, and we are picky. The pools were nice, and one had a secret cave to swim in. I suggest you take the free shuttle to the other El Cid properties in the Golden Zone, 5 minutes away, and catch a taxi from there. Also, to enjoy other properties pools. The beaches are definitely not the Carribean, but the nice people and cheap prices for food/drinks/shopping is so worth it. Such an impressive visit, I will return this January, with my hubby!! PS Being 2 women alone in Mazatlan was completely safe, and the seafood and siver shopping is unmatched!!
Our friend let us have her timeshare exchange for two weeks and we chose this resort. I was so impressed by all the literature and internet research I had done, but I was sadly disappointed. The property is crowded and noisy, the pools are FILTHY and the lobby is stifling hot. My son swam in the "beautiful" rock formation pool and when he returned to the room, I saw his chest was covered in black patches. I took him to the shower and scrubbed him with a washcloth and the cloth was BLACK (I had just given him a bath that morning.)
We could only stand ONE night in this place because it was so cockroach infested and disgusting that we moved over to the Pueblo Bonito at Emerald Bay and paid the extra money. So much for a free week. The Pueblo Bonito is deserving of its 5-star rating, but this place is worthy of a 2-star. It was like going from a Motel 6 to a Ritz Carlton.
Read my review on the P.B. Emerald Bay (NOT PB Mazatlan) for further information.
I wouldn't suggest anyone stay here. OH - one more thing for anyone who wants to visit Mazatlan in the summer. DON'T!! You can't swim on the beaches because of the jellyfish. My son was playing in the waves and got stung. Bad experience altogether!
I own a timeshare here and wouldn't sell it for anything. This is a top of the line resort. The rooms are cleaned everyday and they come in and turn the beds down at night. The service, from check in to check out, is friendly and fast. I like going back here because I KNOW I'm going to have a good vacation!
Very nice experience
If you ask me, El Cid Marina ranks amongst the top of hotels to stay in Mazatlan. I can say that being Mexican definately helped my vacation there. The staff trys their best to speak your language but I could tell there was a language barrier with other visitors. The service I received at the pools was great. My glass was never empty and my stomach always fool. I went on a all-inclusive deal which I sincerely recommend! Everything is paid for! The food never stops coming and your braclet gets you everything everywhere within El cid resorts. Again I dont know that my service had anything to do with me speaking the language but I was treated witht the utmost respect which is what my people are known for. Watch the taxi service! You shouldnt pay more than $4 to go to the end of the strip. My advice! take the free shuttle to the Mega resort then take a taxi from there. Is is much cheaper!! Besides the Mega resort is where its at. El cid is quite a ways away. Plan on walking and stay at the pools. The beach is not cancun water. All in all the the Hotel was great for me! I recommend it. Its a great get away and you wont be in the crowd with kids.
Marina El Cid Yacht Club, Mazatlan
First of all, I have to say I have never been on a vacation where I have been bothered by more people asking me to attend a Time Share session in my entire vacationing life! 5 out of 10 Mexican workers have got to be time share sales people. They mask themselves as Host's at restaurants, cab drivers, outdoor activity people, you name it and they are probably going to try and pitch you to come to a time share meeting. In Mazatlan it got to be VERY ANNOYING to the point where I do not know if I will ever go back again. We stayed at the Marina El Cid, Mazatlan. If you were to compare the Marina El Cid Mazatlan, Mexico with other "upper scale" places located in other tropical destinations you would have to give the Marina El Cid 2 1/2 stars out of 5. It was just OK. From what I understand, most of the Mazatlan Hotels were built up in the 1980's and in my opinion it is still kind of stuck there. The room was clean, but kind of worn out and outdated, the room service was good, but the pool and dining service was awful! The waiters were not interested in serving you unless you ask for it. I guess the majority of the wait staff must make decent enough hourly wages because they surely were not interested in making additional tips by seeing if they could get you anything to eat or drink while soaking up the sun around the pool, beach areas, or even in there own restaurant. One night we honestly waited over 1/2 before anybody approached us to take our order and they were not even that busy. The nice part about the Marina El Cid is it is nestled around a beautiful Marina which provides an ubundance of wildlife to it, (Pelicans and other sea birds as well as Iguana's) and there is always a new luxury craft or fishing boat coming in and out of the marina with a freshly caught Sail Fish or Marlin. It is a nice atmosphere. The food at the Marina El Cid was not very good at all, in fact it was bad, the only thing I would order would be the Hamburger which was actually pretty decent. Take the free shuttle ud go to the Pueblo Bonito hotel just a close walk away. They had a very nice buffet breakfast, in fact if I was ever to go back to Mazatlan this is where I would stay. Very Classy Hotel!!! It has a timeless design. Restaurant Recommendations: Angelo's Italian (yes Italian food in Mexico) restaurant was the best restaurant that we found in town. Pricey, but 5 Star service!!! Very Nice, elegant, and the food was gourmet. Order the Sirloin Steak, it was outstanding!!! and was cooked open flame right next to my table by the chef. They also had a live musician when we were there by the name of Arsenio, he was great!!! He softly sang all the old tunes from the "Rat Pack" days as well as some newer ones. $40 to $60 per person. Senior Peppers has good steaks, pretty spendy though, expec to pay $40 to $60 per person Good Mexican - Cilantro's Casual ocean front restaurant. $15 to $20 per person. Great Pizza - Wood Stove Fired Pizza right at the entrance of the El Cid Country Club. Sit outside and have a freshly baked pizza and the one of the best Ceasar salads I have ever had. $8 to $12 per person. Hope you enjoy your stay.
OUR FAVORITE IN MAZATLAN
Having stayed at Vidafel, Plaza Marina, and a few others our family definitely liked Marina El Cid best. The pool was heated, rooms clean and well decorated and quite large. A playground with all types of equipment-even a merry-go-round were popular with the kids. The short free boat ride to a almost private beach was also fun and gave us chances to meet other visitors. We had a minivan and we pleased with the plentiful, convenient and secure parking facilities. It was also exciting to see the yachts come and go. After we returned we got on the internet and bought a timeshare there.
Was Very Nice
My husband and I just returned from Mazatlan and stayed at the El Cid Marina Hotel. It is quite a ways from the other El Cid locations but they do offer a free shuttle service back and forth, which was very nice. The waiters and staff were excellent to deal with. We only found that the Conceirge was NOT HELPFUL or very friendly when we were there. She wasn't very willing to go out of her way to help you. But feel free to ask any OTHER staff member and they WILL make sure you get taken care of. The food at the El Cid Marina was very good and had many different choices to choose from. I had a pretty good deal/rate when I went so it made it all the better to stay in a VERY high quality hotel. I don't know if I would pay the FULL rate to stay there but it was excellent and would definitely recommend it !!
The service is great, the hospitality is the best. Our family loved it. The best analogy I can give: Why shop at Penneys when you can go to Nordstroms?
Marina El Cid was outstanding
It's been 4 years since I vacationed here but it was outstanding. It's a little bit down from the main hotel area, which only makes it more relaxing. The suites were immaculately clean, and all of the facilities were also. We were there on one of their busiest weekends (Easter) and had no problems with our rooms or service. The staff was very accomodating and there is a wide range of activities to enjoy. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone.

... not for the faint of heart. Besides the dirt and grime, the toilet facilities were either a bucket on board or a climb down a ladder and a walk across the boat yard. Ando f course if we chose the bucket option the trip down the ladder was only temporarily postponed. The sinks also could not be used so all tooth brushing required the same ladder trip. When it ...
There was a dramatic change of scenery today as we left the Northern Desert and, after a long straight (un-potholed!!!) 6hr drive south, we found ourselves in the beautiful sea-side city of Mazatlan. The flora was lush and vibrant, and the fauna all had offerings of Tequila. We were staying at a hostel called the Funky Monkey, which my GPS promised it knew. The exact location was obviously someone's house, and definitely not ...
... and Olivia were staying. She would then push the button and ride the elevator to their floor. I am usually a stairs person, but I definitely got my elevator workout on this trip.
We had planned to leave the same day on the same flight as Ray and Olivia, but we noticed the day before that it had become oversold by several seats. We arranged with the resort to stay in our suite one more night and decided to take the flight to Phoenix the next day.
... t want to go, I am just glad she go on the horse. (Mom Im really proud of you) She had a good time and decided the beach was more fun for her. So we did the horse ride on the beach, my stirrups were too long, so I could not get good footing while riding my horse. I really enjoyed it and I definitely want to go horse back riding more often. I think it would be fun if I could actually learn how to ride. After we rode, ...
... to Mazatlan. So, we thought if it was good enough for John Wayne, it was good enough for us. Darren didn't mind it, Kristi thought it was dark and crusty. It did have a nice ocean view though. We waited two days for hot water and still didn't get any. They kept telling us they had to turn it on and to wait about an hour. We read that Mazatlan had bullfights on Sundays from December up until Easter. So, we ...
