Absolute heaven
from Kat_Ric
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, it's absolute heaven. We spent 3-nights there and loved every minute, it was even better than I had hoped. Our room was beautifully decorated & furnished, and from what I could see all the rooms were of a similar standard. It's worth paying a little extra and going for one of the ocean facing rooms, if only so that you can lie in bed and gaze out at the view. The kitchen facilities were great, fully equipped with proper crockery and knives and forks. The pool and grounds were well maintained with plenty of loungers, hammocks and easy chairs. The atmosphere is very easy going and laid back - Brian does a good job at making all his guests feel welcome. The Island Grill Restaurant is a short walkaway - the food there is excellent and not too expensive.
Cute hotel, owners are penny pinchers and raceist

We stayed at the drop anchor for one week. When we wanted extra towels we where told to turn in the dirty ones. Room service is provided every 3 days.
We where allso told by the owner Steve Kurutz that since we where hispanic and he knows hispanics since his wife is Cuban not to bring in a bunch of freinds.
Your people fill up my hotel w/ your freinds.
I Found this to be a very rude and out of line comment, He then asked my wife how manny years she
has been living in the U.S.A. When she answered 10 years he told her that her english language skills should be better.
Perhaps the fact that I could smell booze on his breath had something to do with his rudeness

After checking the website and looking at the rooms on-line, we decided to give it a try!! We loved it!
Clean (very clean), the grounds were neat as a pin (as the saying goes), and the view and amenities, GREAT! Our only regret was that we only stayed one night! Will most definitely go back!
Very Happy!

We stayed at the Drop Anchor Resort Mar. 2-3, 2006, and were very pleased with our stay. We were looking for a relaxing place to spend a few days after 4 days in Key West. Drop Anchor certainly fit the bill. Our room was very large and clean, and the grounds of the resort were just what we were looking for. Plenty of beach chairs, hammocks, and tiki huts with a gorgeous view of the water. We spent 2 wonderful days hanging out and relaxing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would certainly here stay again. My only complaint about Drop Anchor is that they did not provide coffee for the coffee maker. You can buy coffee from the office for $1.00 a bag for four cups, but it would have been nice to have it included. We had an excellent late lunch/early dinner at the Island Cafe, which is just down the street. Waterfront dining and the best garlic clams we have ever had.
Friendly and fun

We stayed one night at the Drop Anchor- very friendly and helpful staff, great little pool and 'beach' area. Rooms have all the conveniences you need and the decor had been well thought through. A few quibbles - the walls were very thin and one could hear our neighbours (on both sides) in the shower etc. Location wise, you will have to drive or walk some way for breakfast or dinner, and the 360 degree virtual tours do a great job in marketing the place - but remember, these are always the best and most manufactured shots.

We recently stayed at Drop Anchor and had our vacation cut short by good ole' hurricane Katrina. We stayed 4 nights and 5 days and we loved every minute of it. It's a very quiet, peaceful place. We stayed on the second floor, ocean side and the view was amazing for both sunrises and sunsets. You can dock your boat, swin in the very nicely kept pool or just lay out on the abundant hammocks and lounge chairs. Our room was very nicely decorated with hard wood floors and a canopy king size bed.
The employees were so nice. Very friendly, very accomadating and it was like being with family. I highly recommend staying and WE WILL GO BACK ALTHOUGH THIS TIME NOT DURING HURRICANE SEASON.
New owners--not the same
from CliffordB56
We have been recurrent vacationers at the Drop Anchor for many years. It had been owned by the same family for generations--until a couple of years ago. The new owners have updated the decor and some of the appliances, but the new attitude toward guests has been downgraded.
Prying open the guests' wallets seems to be the prime concern now. Payment for our stay was required on check-in. When we tried to make a reservation for next year, the hotel wanted three nights paid up front. Two nights' worth were nonrefundable, regardless of how much notice is given for cancellation. It's now two months after our vacation there, and the hotel has contacted me saying there was a mistake on our bill and they want more money from us. We asked for an itemized bill showing what were charged, what we should have been charged, and why there was difference.
On the other hand, there seems to be a lack of interest in the concerns of the guests. On more than one occasion during our visit, there wasn't enough room at the dock for all the boats. A lot of amenities were self-serve such as fetching clean towels, sweeping sand off the tile floor, and opening and folding up the sleeper sofa. When management was contacted, their answer most of the time was, "Tough luck."
Maybe we were spoiled by having a positive ongoing relationship with the previous owners, but a little customer service would go a long way here.
Drop anchor pretty good

Stayed here on the 12 th, 13th, very polite man at desk sold us on it. workers were all really nice too. rooms were clean, upstairs room 11 had great beds but small fridge so our fish had to be iced constantly, and they don't like you to use their ice, even though the machine was overflowing. Must buy bags. Also never were brought towels or got room service which was ok but when we sent son to turn a set of very used towels they said we don't echange towels twice a day, he explained we never got any ever exchanged they gave some up. Just felt a bit insulted on that. Mom and pop type place, quiet during week.
Also had a downstairs ocean front our first night their, a bit rustic, but nice view and a plus being downstairs, also full size fridge was nice. Bed that folds out from couch a killer, on the back. Boat was docked at a seawall there, no real dock, and was quite treacherous with rocks and shallow areas. We saw one guy run up on rocks not reading water well, also first come first serve, so on weekend you may not even get to tie up there. Fish cleaning station, but no hose to do a good job cleaning up mess. Pool was just to cool down nothing fancy but very clean, view was gorgeous at night, nice available chairs on their premise to watch the sun rise, but noisey traffic from road. 130 dollars a night was about typical for the area, but we had a night at Cheeca for 199 and the place was very very very nice..
Great little place

Very much enjoyed the Drop Anchor resort. Rooms were very clean, roomy, and nicely adorned. Resort property is on the water, and has pool, picnic areas, and hammocks strung up throughout. The room was very inexpensive and located just down the road is the excellent Island Grill restuarant. Will stay here again when in the keys.

Charming Place
from girlwolf68
We recently stayed at this very small, yet charming older motel/suite property
and were pleasantly surprised. As many know, you cannot expect much from motels
along the Keys, ususally old and run down, but the Drop Anchor was a great find.
I think they have a total of 10 rooms, half which have been recently renovated
with wood floors and very nice decor. They also have a The carribean cabin, which is beautiful and a trailer which sounds weird, but isn't at all.
All the rooms have a kitchen/kitchenette with a
full size fridge. We stayed in 3 different rooms. Room #1 is very small but
nicely decorated (newly renovated) with a queen bed - no view. We also stayed in
2 other rooms-nonrenovated-one ground floor ocean front and one 2nd floor ocean
front. They were old and needed to be updated, but for the most part clean. The
view was great. The best part of the ground floor units are they have a screen
porch but have direct access to the grounds. The room airconditioners are old
and clunky and noisy. The pool is very small. The yard is nicely landscaped with
hammocks. The have a boat launch and you can moor your boat right out front.
You can even fish right out front of the property. The staff is very nice and
can give you great information on things to do, places to eat, etc. If you are
looking for a reasonable priced place in a good location--this is a great place. Perfect for those who want a
quiet, very laid back place.
