DoubleTree Suites By Hilton Hotel Orlando - Lake Buena Vista
Travel Blogs from Orlando
I went to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. To get there, I flew on a plane. I stayed at the DoubleTree Suites by Hiton in the Walt Disney World Resort. I went to Disney's Animal Kingdom and had so much fun. I went on all the ridesand I got to see all the Disney characters. After that, I went to the beach and just relaxed for the rest of my trip, …
... s was the only place I saw it by the glass this trip.
For the main course, I went with my server’s recommendation of the crab-crusted fish. Oh my -- this was fantastic! It was also a large portion; two could easily have split it. (I could not even finish half of it.) Wishes started about this time; the lights were dimmed but for some reason the music was not piped in -- which was fine with me, as I’ve seen the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews DoubleTree Suites By Hilton Hotel Orlando - Lake Buena Vista
I, like others, was concerned about several of the negative reviews on the property. However, as a faithful member of the Hilton family of hotels, I've got to say this is one of the best properties I've stayed at. It has minor faults like all places, but it is optimized for a Disney visit with children because of its relative location to the parks and downtown Disney; it's also close to Apopka-Vineland road, which has not only a host of familiar restaurant chains, but also several grocery stores from which to buy things like in room snacks and avoiding high room service charges--all within walking distance!.
The pool was large, (jacuzzi & exercise room close by) complete with a bar that served pool-side snacks--the only knock on the pool was that the water seemed in need of a change--salty & oily. All in all though, a great place to relax at the end of the day.
With regard to the rooms, they were large & spacious, perfect for a family of 2 adults & 2 children--the wetbar, microwave & refrigerator were great. Ask to be located on floors 2, 4, or 6; that's where the ice machines were. As 1 reader had previously commented, mold in the AC units was a problem. Being former natives of Florida, we anticipated this situation, bringing Lysol & X-14--not a problem after we hosed the place down.
The laundry facilities on the 7th floor were a nice bonus as well.
All of the property employees were courteous & respectful--very friendly & helpful.
Avoid the people in the lobby that are trying to sucker you into a timeshare (they are NOT hotel employees)--they are relentless and will badger you each time you walk through the lobby--confront them & tell em to leave you alone.
We would not recommend the hotel offered shuttle service as a means to get to each of the Disney parks; they stop at EVERY hotel along their designated route, and at EVERY park--if you want maximum flexibility and the ability to come & go as you please; get a cheap rental car.
The breakfast buffet at Streamers restaurant is excellent to start the day; we ordered room service 1 night during heavy thunderstorms-food was also excellent.
If you're looking for a 4-star resort and to be pampered in luxury, surrounded by handsome furnishings, look elsewhere.
However, if you're looking for a good hotel with big rooms that caters to families that's close to the action without paying Disney resort prices, this is the place!
Excellent Place to Stay
After making reservations I read the reviews and was concerned. My concern was for nothing! I was very pleased with the room, service, pool, breakfast, bus transportation and staff,. The ONLY problem encountered was service at the resturant (late, after 9pm). Over all I woud recommend this motel to anyone planning a trip to Disney or surrounding area.
Great hotel. Wonderful experience.
My family stayed at the Doubletree for 2 nights in Feb. 2004. This was our first trip to Disney World with our 2 boys - ages 3 and 5. The location of the hotel and its amenities could not have worked out better. The hotel staff was extremely accomodating and the rooms were perfectly sized for the family. The large suite room with its own tv allowed my wife and I to wind down after the kids went to sleep. The free breakfast buffet was fantastic and the gameroom, pools and other features were a nice treat. The hotel location just inside the main gate was very convenient. The free shuttle bus service to the theme parks was dependable and comfortable. We also liked the fact that we were so close to non-Disney amenities and restaurants. A grocery store nearby was a great source of cheaper snacks etc. We would definitely recommend this hotel to other families. A great value and a great hotel!!
Pleasantly surprised with service and hotel
My family and I just returned from a week stay at this Doubletree.
After reading all the negative reviews, I was anxious about staying here, but the location and the standard rooms being suites won out in the long run. We traveled with two boys, 7 and 4 yrs. so we wanted to have the extra space of a suite. My husband is a Hilton Honors member which also narrowed down are selection choices. Our flight was delayed to Florida and we rolled in to the hotel lobby at 2am very tired only to be greeted by "This must be my Hearne family" by the front desk clerk. She was very professional, cheerful and helpful. She gave us breakfast discounts for the buffet, asked for our children's names and got us off to a great start. She even upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite which was wonderful. Towels were nice, room was clean and although a little worn in some areas it was more than sufficient. The breakfast buffet was very nice and the cold portion was complimentary for us.
This was more than adequate on many mornings. Our children absolutely loved the kids playroom (TV and toys) in the restaurant that they could hang out in while we waited to be served or if they finished before us.
The shuttles were convenient, the little grocery store handy for buying little necessities, great little Disney store, on site car rental and conceirge help. The first day we returned from the park there were balloons, cookies, milk in our frig and a note wishing our youngest a happy birthday and to share the cookies with his brother. Outstanding service in my book and it made our sons night. You can definitely pay more and have a 5 star hotel, but this hotel more than satisfied us for this trip and we would recommend it. I checked out the standard rooms and they were very nice also. They did a great job!
Not worth the money
This hotel is old! The advertisement said it was 'recently renovated', but the bathroom was dingy, towels were thin, and the bed was uncomfortable. Will never stay there again. Paint on coffee table and breakfast table was peeling. Doors dividing the living area from the bedroom were broken and needed fresh paint as well. Fitness room is the same size as the couch and you have to go outside to get to it! Odd smell throughout the hotel. Wouldn't recommend this one to my dog.
Great Stay Great Price Great Staff
We booked our reservations before checking into reviews and we appalled by the reviews we found on this hotel prior to our trip! Based on the reviews we were tempted to scramble around and find a different place to stay but our rates were so insanely good we didn't dare. I am so glad we decided to be brave! This hotel was not only clean and friendly but we didn't have to drive any place since the bus picked us up and dropped us off with accuracy. We stayed for 7 days with 2 adults and 1 child. The room serivce was pricey but when isn't it? We were quite pleased with the room, the pool was fun and clean and not as occupied as one would think for the season. All in all we would not hesitate to stay there again when we go to disney next. I hope this helps and you have a great time at your stay at this hotel, my husband said that the reason it got such a horrible review is that when people are satisfied they don't worry with commenting so it's typically the grumpies that have something to say. With that in mind I simply had to come and toss in my two pennies! :-) We stayed there in September of 2003!
I was very pleased with our accomodations at this hotel, especially for the low price. I was attending a conference but thought the room and hotel was well suited for a family trip to Disney World. The rooms were some of the largest I've ever stayed in. The 2-room suite would comfortably accomodate 6-7 persons and they kitchnette is great for those of us who don't like to eat out every meal. The staff was very friendly and I would definitely stay here again.
After reading several negitive reviews I almost decided to stay somewheres else. Glad I didn't chage my reservation. Our stay here was great. From the moment we checked in the staff was friendly and very helpful. The person selling tickets to the parks was wonderful....without her advice we would have missed Animal Kingdom, which was one of the highlights of our trip. The suite was attractive, clean, comfortable, and very spacious. The location is perfect for people planning on doing the Disney attractions. The hotel transportation was always on time and took us to exactly where we wanted to go. Plus the easy walk to Downtown Disney is an added plus, for evening entertainment. The pool and hot tub was very comforting after long days of doing the parks. We would stay here again.....without a second thought! I am a very demanding person.....so it takes alot to please me........Doubletree made our stay great!
Dissapointed by Doubletree
We stayed at this property for 7 days during the last week of June 2003. We opted for this property because it offered the only all suite hotel on Disney property, although now we wish we would have paid the extra money and stayed on at a Disney-owned hotel. We received a fairly good rate ($139 a night excluding taxes) and there were four people in our party, three adults and one child. After our stay we would not stay here again. I have stayed at other Doubletree hotels and this one is below average. I guess Hilton does not need to keep up this property since Orlando and Disney are such a popular destination and this one is on Disney property. The decor is colorful and bright and the staff at the front desk is okay. The amenities were second rate. The children's check in counter and special gift consisted of a baloon and a 69 cent toy pulled out of a bucket. The room was second rate. The room smelled musty. The hotel had someone from engineering change the the filter in the air conditioning unit which helped for about 15 minutes. We were also told to keep the A/C at 67 degrees or lower to help draw out the moisture. This did not help as the furniture, bedding and carpet was embedded with mildew. While looking inside the A/C unit when the engineer change the filter, it was clear to me that the unit had not been cleaned, ever. I ran out to a store and bought a can of Lysol and sprayed everything down. This helped slightly. I know that Florida is humid why is it that some hotels in Florida control mold and mildew and others do not?The restaurant (Streamers) was below average. The food choices for dinner were limited and the "salad bar" has three items.
The price was expensive for the food quality. One afternoon we ate poolside. The hotel literature suggests that there is a poolside grill.
Far from it. My wife had to order lunch at the bar(no problem). We were told to return in about 20 minutes to pick up the order(no problem).
When we checked back, the one and only person (bartender, waitress, chief cook and bottle washer) said that she had run back (to Streamers kitchen) to get the food. I guess there is no wait staff. The conveinence store (also called Streamers) is overloaded with junk. The Disney gift shop is the only thing that is up to Disney standards (I think that is is run by Disney)The pool and playground was average. The grounds do not get cleaned on a regular basis. There is sand tracked into the pool from the playground. The Doubletree advertises a "childrens theater" showing free Disney movies each night. This consisted of a big screen t.v. (about 20 years old with the color bleeding all over the screen) in a room with carpeted levels playing the Disney Channel which is available in your room. We did not rent a car. The busses to the theme parks run about every half hour and do not run on time making it impossible to know when to get to the pick up area. To our dissapointment, the busses to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach only run at 9:45, 2:30(too early) and 6:30(too late). We ended up taking a cab back to the hotel one afternoon. In conclusion, we will not stay here again. We will opt for Disney owned prperties in the future.
Great for families!
Just returned from a few days at this hotel (Oct 2002). This is a great choice for families, primarily from a convenience and "value for money" perspective. Each suite has its own sink, microwave (old model), small fridge and table/chairs for dining. Eating breakfast/supper in your hotel room can be a great cost savings! A free shuttle bus passes the hotel every 30 mins to bring you to any one of the 4 disney parks. Outdoor pool area is nice. True - the suites are a bit worn from wear, but are clean nonetheless and quite comfortable. The staff were nice-- helpful and attentive. I certainly plan to return.
