... unlike anything we've experienced so far. When we found out that it was an 8pm start, we debated whether or not to bring Austin and Owen. They did really great considering that we were way past their bedtime, but in retrospect we probably would have been better off not taking them to this particular game with a late start. The boys did great throughout the whole game, but the crowd provided a less-than-ideal environment for children. ...
When things seems to be getting better, it doesnt! while waiting in the loong snake line there was this indian lady behind me travelling by herself with 1 laptop bag strapped accross her chest and a handbag and i believe a carryon. Every step i took she took with me...always hitting into me no matter if i took extra steps to the left and right side, she manages to touch me with her huge laptop bag, after a good ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Doral Golf Resort and Spa
Nice Room - Disappointing for kids
We went in June 2003, We had to be moved out of our first room due to the smell of smoke, but out next room was beautiful! I loved the decor and the bathrooms. The pool and slide shown on the website was a disappointment to our kids, the slide is very small and one of the pools was closed for construction. I felt that the staff was nice.
We visited this resort in early May and found the grounds and golf courses in fairly good condition. which was the only item we did like.
We found the food extremely overpriced, as were the rooms, and finding a place to dine on the grounds was impossible after 7 PM. We had to leave the premises to find appropriate dining. The room service was not very good and there were two days in which we actually had to call housekeeping to get our room cleaned. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate this resort a pretty mediocre five.
Our family stayed at the Doral over the New Year 2003. Upon arrival I asked for a room with a decent view and was assured our room and view was 'truly beautiful'. However our balcony overlooked a huge parking lot, garbage bins and was accompanied by the roar of the traffic from the highway. We made many calls to reception - it was either busy, or no answer. When we eventually got through to a human being we were told to wait in our room and the Manager would contact asap. After several phone calls and over a 2 hours later, (still no sign of Manager) my husband went back to reception, and after much arguement got a transfer to a much better room. This hassle was not a great way to start a vacation especially after a 10 hour flight. I was extremely disappointed in attitude etc of staff. On another point, New Year's Eve was a total washout. If you were not prepared to pay about $100 per head (same price for the kids) for the Gala Meal - you had no other options, all the other bars/restuarants were closed. Great family fun eh?
We just returned from an extended weekend stay at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, and I wanted to write and let everyone know what a great time we had! We had initially signed up for a Spa Executive Suite, had complications, and ended up in a Spa Master Suite. Our room was breathtaking, the nicest and largest room we've ever stayed in! I can't speak for the regular rooms, but we did get a look at the Executive Suites and they were very large and extremely nice as well! We walked throughout the resort and the grounds were beautiful, especially by the spa. The service was adequate for the most part, but we obviously were extremely happy with how well the folks at the Doral handled our initial problems! The only negative with the resort is it's location relevant to the beaches. The 30 minutes it generally takes to get there, is often compounded by some heavy traffic, even in the "offseason." We will absolutely be back to the Doral, but we may also look to stay somewhere on the beach for part of the trip.
Great place to stay
I also agree - ignore the negative reviews. My wife and I are going to return this winter for our third consecutive vacation. Yes we were offered a poor room last year and asked to be changed - the staff couldn't have been more accomadating. It is not brand new, but the location in downtown Miami and the five courses at your doorstep make up for the somewhat dated ambience.
Ignore the negative reviews
I made reservations to stay at Doral using Entertainment Coupon book 1/2 off rate, prior to seeing the negative on-line reviews. I called Doral and told the reservation manager about the negative reviews on the web. She promised me a great stay. I stayed for a week and found the resort to be wonderful. The room was great, service was excellent, and progressive lunch buffet at the Fairways was one of the best meals we had in Miami. I'm not a golfer so can't speak for golf, but the overall trip was great. I am glad the four negative reviews did turn me off.
I would never stay here again, nor recommend any one to stay here. The golf course isn't nice. The service everywhere was so bad it became humorous. I was there on a corporate stay. It looks as if this is what is keeping this place open...not for long. There were so many complaints our company appologize to the staff who had to attend and promissed to never go back. There are so many great hotels in Miami, stay somewhere else!
Try no class as opposed to first-class
My girlfriend and I checked into this hotel last year after being moved twice we decided to check out and find a hotel on the beach. Bugs galore-- firts room had ant all over the bathroom and the second room had two roaches. This place was terrible to say the least. My suggestion golf here but stay elswhere.
My Husband and I stayed here during our Christmas vacation. We are from the Caribbean where the people are always friendly especially in the hotel industry. We found the staff here very rude. We did not feel welcomed at all.
Our room was also a bomber. Two thumbs down!! Nothing significant!!!! The view was half of a garden and half of the parking lot. We've stayed at less expensive but more classier decorated rooms than this hotel.
We were very disappointed to say the least!!!
Don't recommend it. - Never going back.
Will never go back
We spent the last leg of our honeymoon (6/01) at the Doral. The room had the view of a parking lot, it was oddly shaped and there was not much room to move around; the mirror fell off the door in the middle of the night - when they came to fix it they used the most horrible smelling glue! We played golf at one of the courses and it was in horrible shape. Will never go back. Even after complaining, they did nothing.
