... Andaman is famous for its Red Oil Palm Plantation run by the ANIFPDCL (11 kms from the jetty). The plantation is spread over an area of 1593 hects. A factory for extraction of palm oil is also run by ANIFPDCL. ... first. We are picked up from the hotel at 6.30 and reach Chatham Wharf in time to catch the ferry to Bamboo Flats at 7am. Day 3 - Wednesday, 21st May, 2008 The MV Strait Island heaves and sighs near-noiselessly as we watch Port Blair recede into the distance. Standing on the deck, with some other restless passengers, we take in the morning air and the sights of the open sea as it pans out before us. Tilbage i Port Blair. Planen var primaert at tage til en strand hvorfra det skulle vaere muligt at se skilpadder laegge aeg. Desvaerre fandt vi ud af at stranden var blevet oedelagt af tsunamien. Saa kom vi endelig til Andamanerne, en oegruppe beliggende 1000 km oest fra Kolkata. Oegruppen bestaar af 552 oer hvoraf kun 35 er beboede. Befolkningen er ............
