Historical Traveler Reviews Depe Dene Resort Lake George

Hated the awful service at Depe Dene Resort in Lake George, NY

The service was absolutely terrible. We were asked to pay for soap and towels. 7 people staying in the cabin and there were towels for 3. We were promised a view of Lake George from our window... if you consider cement blocks 10" away from your window from the restaurant next door a view that is amazing. We were told there would be maid service. No maid, no service yet there was an envelope for us to put a tip in. Amazing. An outdoor heated pool turned out to be an outdoor pool with no heater yet! We both have little children and they put us up next to a highway instead of withing the Resort. The four of us adults would NEVER suggest staying there to anyone not even anyone who has treated any of us cruely! On a scale of 1 to 10 - ten being the greatest - we all would rate this place a 1. That's only because there were beds in the place and the door lock worked!

          Our summer home

I laughed when I read "you call this a resort?", because I guess it isn't a resort by any technical resort standard. I also go on the week of the 4th of July as did one other reviewer...I'm trying to figure out who it could be..... I have been spending this week at Depe Dene for over 15 years and my kids look upon our cabin as their summer home. We have many friends there at the same time, and it has been fun watching the kids grow up together, Every year there are changes sometimes good (new carpet, a new air conditioner, new playground) Sometimes bad ( a skunk camped out under your cabin, bugs, no pots and pans, no pool) But year after year we go back, and somehow manage to have a wonderful vacation. The kids have frredom they dont have a home, and the adults have an old fashioned realxing time with not too much to "have" to do. The staff is like family after all these years. I suppose I'll go back untill I need a walker to get up the hill from the beach.

          You call this a resort?

We really expected much better from something that bills itself as a "resort." The rooms were OK, but the lack of pots and pans, the cost for fresh sheets, having to tote your own trash to the dumpster, and the crummy condition of the beach (cigarette butts, empty beer bottles, trash, etc.) added up to an extremely disappointing stay.

          Fun in the Sun Great

We been going up to Depe Dene every year (7yrs +) We stay at the Beach Suites. Oh so much fun!! The scenery is just simply fabulous. Jet ski so much fun. Everything is at your fingertips. We go up with the family and meet the same friends year after year. This is the resort for families!!! The party beings when you arrive!! Margaritias, Mud Slides, you know all the fun summertime drinks. Horseback riding next store to Depe Dene. There is a resturant The Lone Bull on property, a country store, jet ski rentals, horse back riding it has it all. Yes, I do admit it is a little dirty but look at it this way Its a Beach Suite everyone uses it!! I am Hazel and I clean it up for my family when we arrive. Then its fun in the sun and RELAX!!!!!!!

          Love Depe Dene

Depe Dene is a great family resort! Ive been going there for 16 years now. Every year we go more and more of our family and friends join us and they love it. The cabins are always clean and the staff is wonderful. There is so much more i can say about depe dene but i will be here all day!!!

          Love the Depe Dene!

Our first trip to Depe Dene was last year, 2002 and because of the great time we had --we're headed back for 2003. The cottage was very nice, clean, air conditioned. Staff was pleasant --but you really did not need to interact much with them b/c everything was in order and the cottage felt like yours for the week! The grounds were great, nice location and the water superb. The pool was recently renovated and beautiful --of course the water could get cold --it is the Adirondack Mtns, after all!. The kids had a blast!

          Will not return

My family and I stayed at the Depe Dene Resort June 29-July 6, 2002. We were very disappointed. About a week before our arrival date (too late for us to make other reservations), we were notified by the resort that their swimming pool was not in operation due to repairs. They hoped to have it available for use by the time of our arrival; however, the pool wasn't ready to use until the day before we left. Of course, the water was freezing. The literature stated our cottage had air conditioning.

The living area had an old and very loud unit in the wall above the table, and it didn't cool the two bedrooms. Also, the cottage was very worn-looking.

We'll go back again and again!!!

Wonderful staff - always helpful. All the comforts of home, with easy access to six flags, Lake George center, and more! Great beach, paddle boating with the kids was a blast! Weekly barbeque was fun -we got to meet other families. We especially like staying in the newer units located near the new pool. They're beautiful - and at the sametime, we weren't always worrying our kids would ruin something too elegant. Last year we stayed in the townhouses by the lake. These were "earthy"and more user worn, but still roomy and comfortable. Basketball, playgrounds, and arcade games added to the fun for the kids.Separate bedrooms for the kids added to the fun for mom and dad!

          Dave...your wrong

Excuse me Dave, I've been going to Depe Dene resort since i was 1 year old. I think its awesome. For everyone who had second thoughts about going to Depe Dene, think again because it is amazing. The smell of bbqs fills the air at night, at sunset theres still people outside, playing softball etc. Theres a Jet-ski rental, and places to dock your boats, jet-ski's etc. Maybe you had a bad cabin, but for the amount of years I've been going, the cabins were perfect. They just got brand new kitchents, carpets, furniture. The smell makes you feel cozy, and the rooms do also. Theres a brand new beautiful pool, and the lake is clean, and before you get to about 3 feet deep the waves create little waves in the sand underwater giving your feet a massage every time you walk in the lake. The floating dock is great to relax on. You lay there, bring some sun tan lotion and some cheese-its. lay on a towel and relax as the waves rock you up and down in relaxation. The beach is clean, theres people raking and its always clean. My family is very good friends with the staff. They are the nicest people ever!! And the secretaries, they are wonderful. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't work with you in your dissapointment. Theres a beautiful view from the cabins to the shining lake and theres fireworks. Theres a little beach house where they store the tourist boat that has stairs to the top with louge chairs. Its beautiful to watch fireworks from up there. (Im there for the fourth of July) Its an amazing place. Theres so much to do. Theres an arcade in the check in/out room. Theres people who come and clean your rooms. Youll just find yourself amazed. It really is a beautiful place. The Lone Bull Resteraunt (part of the resort) is right up the hill. Its AMAZING!! Go there for breakfast every morning...ugh...its just amazing. Theres a little deli across the street ...and everythings just perfect. So people ...dont watch out for Depe Dene, its the best of the best that youll find up there in Lake George, N.Y. PLEASEOLD!!- annon.

          Depe Dene Resort

Judging from there web site, and price per room it was a very nice place to stay. Upon our arrival we could not believe the terrible condition of the room. Ceiling trim falling down, grerasy dirty dishs in the kitchenette cabinet. Stained washed clothes that looked like they had been used to check your car oil. Along with a musty smell in the room like it had not been opened up in 2 weeks. ON top of all this they refused to credit our credit card when we said the room was not up to our expectations for $169 per night!

We decided to have our engine parts shipped and we got a 10 day pass for the lock system: a whopping $37.50!! We moved down to Fort Edward at Lock #7 for a few nights. There is free power and water, as well as bathroom and showers. No internet though- we walked over a half hour to McDonald's in the new section of town to get internet. The town has some ...

... Crown Point and stopped overnight at Fort Ticonderoga. The winds were supposed to be from the south and then west, so we anchored above the Fort area to be protected. There was no wind at all in the end, we should have gone to the south anchorage.... as we passed it by the next day we saw it had a much better view. It was a very quiet sleep after the ferry stopped, and after the gazillion birds finished their convention in the trees nearby. ...

... and Otto, beverages. When I asked Otto if Milo had any food preferences, I found out that Milo wanted lobster and artichokes. So, even though Otto told Milo he wasn't getting them, I tried to pick a little something with lobster and artichokes. We had two salads and two breads with a choice of spreads and toppings plus olives and cornichons. Everyone seemed pleased with the lunch.

After I manage to find a new pair of sunglasses, Alex was really hoping the same lady would be in the store so I would have to explain, we head out to the outfitters. We had the usual safety orientation as we took a bus ride to the river. We all carried the raft to the water and off we went. The scenery was beautiful and the water crisp. There was only one time when I thought I might be riding the rapids without ...
