South Beach
Had our first day of sessions, then went to the Blue Door at the Delano Hotel in South Beach for our staff dinner. The entire experience was great. The salmon, dessert, wine, mojitos, the weather...all great. The décor was very trendy - white curtains, candles, and huge mirrors everywhere! The bathroom was also very cool - like something you'd see …

Prior to dinner we set out on another adventure - that of finding access to the beach, which is situated right behind our condo. We actually found that there is a gate directly off this property, but that wasn't until after we'd wandered down the road until we found a road in ...

On we go, mile after mile, waiting for the scenery to change into the spectacular picture-postcard tropical idyll we're expecting. But bar the odd bridge over turquoise water, all we're seeing is a big stretch of tarmac cutting through run down buildings or ordinary scrubland. Hmmmm.
About 70 miles after Key Largo we pull into Duck Key and our next hotel, ...

South Beach, Mi-ami...
... we walked around to see the Art Deco buildings and the bustling shops on Washington. I had to stop by Dash after having seen it on the Kardashian Miami show. We walked the beach and it was crazy how many people were on the beach between 5th and 15th! It was overloaded with people! I've never seen so many people, who were obviously there for Beach Week, on a beach.
We decided to go south and come back to see what Miami was like on ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Delano Hotel Miami Beach
Stay at the Tides
We visited one evening in low season to enjoy desert and a drink. The restaraunt was completely empty yet we were rudely turned away because we only wanted desert. My advice. Stay at the "The Tides". This place is beautiful with impeccable service (not hint of Delano arrogance).
This is the place
This is clearly the place to be - especially now that things have slowed down around SoBe - whether it's just for the summer or for good I have no idea, but everywhere else I went this past weekend (5/16/03) was dead as a doornail. The lobby, park- like outdoor area, pool, pool bar, beach - all of it flows down toward the water beautifully, especially at night when there are lights outside and lots of people out. I did not stay there, but I did walk around and check out the spa, etc. and all of the employees I encountered were helpful (except for the nearly non-existent cocktail waitresses, but that was the case everywhere) the drinks are V expensive, but it's worth the price to check it out. Really. Found most of the other hotels to be very quiet and wish I'd known how much nicer it would be to stay at an on the beach property like the Delano, Surfcomber, National, or Loews - maybe the Tides though their pool doesn't face the beach and the rooms are a mind-numbing 550 per night! I definitely recommend checking this place out and staying at one of the above close by beach front places, it just makes everything easier, and the Delano is truly unique.
Played pool with Kieffer!!!
i work for air france and have seen a lot of 5star hotels ,but my favorite one is still the delano in miami (or is it the sandy lane in barbados?).as i am frensh the only critic would be the cuisine which is'nt good enough...but it's excused by the decoration (frensh!!!).starck is a genious, this hotel is the best he did.that evening i wanted to play pool and was offered to play with a very goodlooking young man that i didn't recognize at first ,kieffer sutherland.he's less teddy bear and more sharp and sexy in real life than on screens...ha!we laughed a lot and got sarcastic about frensh and american relationships, well ,anyway,it was fun!after those 6days,i came back 3times and propose the delano to all my good and nice clients.Bravo et continuez comme çà.A bientot.Kako
The weekend was slammin!
Just got back from a fantastic weekend spent at the Delano, & plan on going back asap! The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the restaurant is top-notch, the women are beautiful & (unlike NY) friendly & approachable...
Bar review only - total joke
My comment should only be taken as applying to a specific point for the bar as we did not stay there but it was so pathetic I thought I would note it. Going for a drink, we asked for a drink list - "we have no list, we have everything". As we did not want everything and wanted to look at something, she bought the lsit they had of about 8 cocktails. I asked for a Tia Maria - "what is that .. a cordial" to which I responded "are you kidding". She was confident that the bar did not stock it . She checked and returned to say no they did not. My wife checked and the bar guy laughed and said yes of course they did but they had run out. The waitress then returned from another bar with the Tia Maria -$12 worth (the cocktails are $12 max). I am sorry, but the reputation for quality service in the US took another hit. It was not only the place in Miami that gave this pretentious BS of having no list of drinks.
A "Must Do"...Stay at The Delano
My wife and I just returned from an off season trip to South Beach (Miami) where we stayed at the most talked about hotel... The Delano. We had a wonderful time. The wait staff could not have been any nicer or more attentive without being pesky. The Bellmen were very knowledgeable and very helpful. We were there for four nights and hardly left the friendly confines. Sure the place cost a lot of money - quality often does. We asked if we could have an alcove room for the same price as we had booked... of course. We met lots of great people at the pool, the bar, the restaurant and in the first class gym. Don't forget to pamper yourself in the Spa located on the roof. Would I go back? Absolutely.
Delano Hotel
I have read numerous reviews about how snobby the staff is at the Delano- Well I am Happy to Review myself- The staff and personal at The Delano were NOTHING but WONDERFUL. They showed so much respect for the guest at the Hotel. I was in awe of how nice they were. Maybe all these bad reviews I have read in the past, changes were made since then but i have to rate the staff a perfect 10!! and i will be back!
Too full of themselves!
My husband and I stayed at the Delano in December 2001 for a business/get-away weekend. I have never been treated with such a snotty attitude. Everyone from the waiters to the telephone reception center acted as though they were fallen royalty forced to serve the great unwashed of the world. I know that it is 'the' hotel with the beautiful people of the world, but this was outrageous. AND..NO HOT WATER ON A SATURDAY AT 8PM!! All this for $700 and night!!???
For all the beautiful - ie regular, hard working, polite people of the world - find someplace else!!
Going back!!!
About to make my third visit to the Delano, and I can't wait! Booked one of the poolside bungalows for three nights...pricey, but the ultimate in luxury. When they close those gauzy curtains over your entire two-storey room, with the soft lights of the pool coming through, music playing on your in-room CD player, your true love by your side, what could be more heavenly?
Very cool place
We were just in South Beach for New Years and we did not actually stay at the Delano but we spent a good deal of time there. It is one of the coolest places I have seen. The crowd there makes for incredible people watching and the courtyard in back of the hotel is right out of Alice in Wonderland. It is well worth a trip...and I can imagine that although pricey, the rooms would be super too.
