Patong - paradise lost

After 2 weeks on Ko Samui we were ready to move on for our next adventure - destination Phuket. We were picked up by minibus at 8.30am sharp and driven to the pier where we got on a large ferry - the SeaTran. The hour and a half crossing back to the mainland was very smooth an when we docked we hopped onto our coach and plugged into our ipods for the 5 hour drive. Phuket is an island but Paul wouldn't have known if I hadn't woken him up as we drove across the little bridge. It is Thailand's b...

Phuket / lady boys

Feb. 9th Today was not that exciting considering we were in transit for most of the day. We started off with a pedicure and manicure for me and a manicure for Jamie before catching the plane. "I made him get one because his hands/hang nails were horrible". Before I go any further with this story there is some important information you need to know. (The other day when we were at the Snake Farm Jamie did not want to kiss the Cobra, he thought I was nuts for doing it). After we had left the sna...

Lovely ladyboys, Fantasea and Island hopping

We took the ferry back to Phuket from Phi Phi and headed to Patong Beach where our hotel (Deevana Resort & Spa) was located..it was a gorgeous hotel, but when you're poor like us and only get the standard room, it is just average! We have been spending an extraordinarily excessive amount of time at the internet cafes as we are constantly trying to book our accomodations and transportation for the next destination, except I end up uploading pics and writing these stupid things and no one e...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Deevana Resort & Spa Patong

Mama, Papa, drei Kinder

from casshane
Sehr wertvoll!

Good Value

You get what you pay for and this resort offers good value for money.

The garden wing rooms are basic and a little run down whereas the spa wing rooms are much better and also more expensive.

The facilities are good with two large swimming pools and a seperate kids pool both filled with lovely warm water!

The gardens are attractive with large grassed areas.

Breakfast was adequate and served in the open air restaurant overloking the pool adjacent to the spa wing.

The resort is set back from the road and has a lovely private feeling to it.

Even though it is not located close to the beach it is not far from places to eat, drink and shop.

I would definately stay here again .

Very attractive entrance and foyer. Polite and efficient reception. Warm friendly staff, cold towel and complimentary drink on arrival was a nice touch.

Stayed in the Garden Wing in adjoining rooms for B900 per room a night including breakfast.

Nice pools and gardens were the kids could run around. We could view the pool & watch the kids from our veranda.

Rooms were big enough & all furniture and fittings worked fine.

Mini Mart next door with basic snacks, fresh milk & beer at supermarket prices.

Large food court 50m down the road.

Excellent Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
No complaints about this hotel at all. Service was always with a smile and as with others i arrived early and was shown straight to my room.

Breakfast provided a fair choice each day but this could become repetitive if staying more than 10 days or so. However there is more than enough if you want to fill up for the day.

It is about a 10/15 minute wander to the beach and there are bars along the access road but i never had any issues walking alone there, the people are good natured and always ready with a smile. If you fancy getting continually beaten at pool go and see nob, the bartender, at bar '18' which is at the start of the access road. He's always up for a chat.

I stayed in the garden wing, while being clean and tidy with wonderfully kept gardens it seems to be part of the old resort (Bayside resort i believe it was called) and as such is a little tired. If available get a room in the new spa wing.

All in all i was happy with my choice. I would say that i would have to choose the spa wing next time as i'm aware of better value available than the garden wing.

Alright for the price

This hotel was alright all around accept for a few really bad things. The hotel was an easy 10 minute walk to the beach however surrounded by bars filled with prostitutes. In the morning when taking a walk you saw all the prostitues leaving the hotel room.

Room service was terrible. Possibly might of had food poisoning as I was ill for two days after eating it. Breakfast was terrible as well. The one chef dropped bacon on the floor used her tongs picked it up and chucked it back on the tray. Very little selection. New Years gala dinner was alright the food terrible as many other guests agreed with us it was not worth what we paid.

Some of the reception staff were rather rude and obnoxious others were very kind. Bed sheets were never changed in the room. We arrived with a tomato sauce stain on the blanket and we left with it still there. Towels also were not changed.

We stayed in the Deluxe room in Spa Wing and paid Aus$110 and for that money it was ok but for the same price received far better in other parts of the world.

Cable tv was always fuzzy and cut out a lot.

I booked a spa wing room through late stays a week before my trip to Phuket, Patong Beach. The room was clean, big and had a nice view over the pool. The best thing was, we arrived early at the resort (9am) and the management allowed us to check-in early, and allowed us to change the date of our breakfast to that day as well.

Breakfast was nice, buffet style and the ambience was good too.

Overall, I think the resort gave a relaxing atmosphere and it was very new as well. Only disavantage probably is the 10 min walk to the beach.

Fantastic Hotel

from ShaneJones
Overall the Deevana is an excellent place to stay. For the price I think it is extremely good value.

I stopped in the Spa wing and the views of the pool and restaurant (especially at night) were superb.

The rooms were average size with an excellent wet/shower room. Beds were comfy and the rooms were well equipped with all the necessities (although the mini bar only contained beer and coke, no spirits)

Breakfast is ok but didn't change our entire stay (14 nights). Don't let this however; put you off the fantastic food served in the restaurant. It is without doubt one of the finest restaurants in Patong and for a fraction of the price of others. The set menus are superb value approx 700 bahts for a 4 course meal for 2!!

The only downside of this hotel is the immediate area. The drive leading up to the hotel is filled with seedy looking bars with topless barmaids dragging you in off the street. Although some may argue this is part of Patong's appeal (and I'm no prude) it did become a bit off putting. Although don't get me wrong, we didn't have any trouble here. Immediately in front of the hotel is a rather ugly looking Conditel. Again, we didn't get any trouble here but it is rather slightly.

Lovely Thai Style Hotel with amenities for a great deal!

My sister and I LOVED THE DEEVANA! We stayed in the spa wing with a view of the pool. The room was lovely even though it and the bed were med-small size - 2 beds vs 1 - but everything felt bigger. There was a big balcony overlooking the pool. No bathtub - shower only - but if you have a little extra cash (and I'll do this next time) I recommend staying in a deluxe room - it has a poolside private hot tub for only 400 bt more than a superior room (~$10/nt).

Breakfast was provided and the food was very good. The hotel has a lot of common areas, including a bar with pool tables, a number of pools and poolside areas, as well as a great happy hour. The concierge was very helpful booking our activities, laundrey service was very reasonably priced, full service spa - massage was lovely - and the people there were very nice - as was the case everywhere else in the hotel.

We loved that this hotel was off the main strip, but only a couple blocks walk to the beach and about 6 blocks to the main bar strip. It felt like a resort - isolated, insular, and very relaxing while having the benefit of being very near to all the Patong shopping and party hub-bub.

The staff was amazing, genuinly happy to help us, genuinly friendly. We didn't fell nickle and dimed or crowded...we felt pampered by both the surroundings and the staff - all for a very reasonable price.

This was our favorite place we stayed while on vacation and we will be back for a much longer stay next time.

Excellent

from lauradee
I also stayed in the Garden wing end of July 2005, it was excellent, the standard of accommodation was fairly basic but what more do you need? The staff were so friendly and professional and were only too willing to help. The pool area (one of 5 i think!) was clean and well kept as were the large gardens. There is also a spa on site which was very upper class!

I recommend anyone to go there who is on a budget but wants something a bit more upmarket-we paid 50 GBP for 4 nights, booking via internet.

Garden Wing room was horrible, mosquito infested & aircon not working

from serene
Stayed for 3 nights at Garden Wing. The room was stuffy as it open directly into the garden but we had to keep it closed throughout for fear of mosquitos. Don't know how those damn pests still managed to slip through, spent the first night scratching myself. Subsequently, had to ask for insect spray everynight. The aircon was also not working, had to ask for change of rooms, the reception gave us keys to 2 other empty rooms and asked us to check out the aircon ourselves. Finally settled on one room which was better but than my husband had to take down the aircon filter to wash it, hoping it would be colder. Breakfast was so so. We saw the rooms that faced the poolside and come with balcony, it looks better than the one that we stayed in. The staff was friendly and helpful though.
