Time to go home

... having to cover ourselves in mozzie repellent every evening) and it will of course be great to catch up with everyone, but nonetheless we are sad to be leaving this corner of the world behind us. Such is life.

Yesterday was typically lovely, with a trip into Negril (for postcards and a quick look at the famous 7 mile beach) then back here for an awesome massage, before watching sunset from a private hot-tub. An average Friday, I guess ...

Friday 14th August - last full day

... at sunset. It was a lively spot - lots of people, lots of cliff jumping (not from us, we hadn't taken our swimmers) and some good music. The evening was interrupted by a tropical shower, but the band carried on even if the jumpers didn't. The rain thankfully didn't last too long so we didn't get too wet walking back to the Caves.

Last night's dinner was something special. We dined in a Cave (Cave 2, since you ask) which was amazing. The walls of the cave ...

Jamaica! Final stop!

Hi guys Just a quick update via the phone to let you know that we are safely settled into The Caves in Jamaica. It is, as you'd expect, beautiful. Yesterday's travel was a bit stressful - we had a manic/comical dash through Miami to reach our connecting flight - but it all worked out OK, and we arrived here at 10.30pm last night. There were a couple of beers and some fresh lobster salad waiting for us which was a nice touch. Today we've explored a bit ...

Some great things never change!

... so you don't need to walk very far to get a drink. I tend to be kind of a busy body and get tired of lying on the beach. My usual routine is to casually make the rounds between all three, taking in the sites, and chatting with friends along the way.

That is the beauty of this resort. If you want to do nothing but party, there is always a party going on somewhere. If you want to just relax and soak up ...

... and left them in the middle of the floor.) Luckily, I only had about $100 US/CDN cash combined and they didn't bother with my passport, credit card or camera! We found out that these sorts of robberies were taking place all along the beach, but they don't take anything that would incriminate them. Cash is untraceable, unlike camera equipment, jewelery or credit cards. The hotel manager and the owner did seem genuinely concerned, particularly when ...

We're here

... stand seeking jerk chicken, we were sadly disappointed to find they did not have enough chicken ready for four people (we were traveling with a couple who were JA virgins, as well as our son), so we declined partaking of any of it and moved on to feed our need. After driving up and down the boulevard, we finally lucked up on a little place called Montana's Cafe who could accomodate us at the late hour. We had a couple of Red Stripes, Guinness and fruit ...

... field with vendors on the outskirts selling food, etc. The music had started around 8 or 9pm, but as every Jamaican knows the real music won't start until the middle of the night. Some of us had purchased Rasta flags outside the concert, and a lot of other people had them as well. Because it was a Reggae concert the Rastafarians were out in full force (reggae is rasta music). I have never seen so many in one place before. There were even Rasta's from other ...

'Jamaican' me feel like travelling again....

... It is worth pointing out that it is in the realm of the excursions where I felt Jamaica came into its own, and there is a blisteringly great range of tourist activities which I felt fully exploited all of what the island had to offer. These excursions include the obvious climb up Dunn's River falls, to rafting on the Martha Brae, and a day trip to the glorious beaches of Negril, and a stop at Rick's cafe, where cocktails, cliff ...
