Historical Traveler Reviews of Crowne Plaza Resort Karon Beach Phuket
Génial
from emilytom

Absolutely wonderful! Best for families with kids!

We chose the Movenpick on the strength of excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. The resort is of high quality in all aspects - service, F&B and facilities - there are THREE pools, one with a swim-up bar. The beach is a little ways from the main building but a complimentary Tuk Tuk service is available. It's location on the relatively quieter Karon beach allows you to get away from the crowds.
What we liked:
(1) Excellent service - Thai hospitality at it's best! Staff were great with children.
(2) Kids' Zone - caters to infants all the way to teenagers. Full suite of outdoor (snooker table, pingpong, fulsball) and indoor (ball pit, jigsaws, play station) games, organised activities (batik painting, cooking, papermarche) and movies. Great team of staff to keep yor kids happy and challenged.
(3) Restaurant - Good international breakfast spread and excellent a la cart menu with authentic Thai dishes, reasonably priced.
What we didn't:
(1) Lots of mozies - come prepared with repellent sprays!
(2) Pillows can be fluffier.

Loved our stay, fantastic kids club, would definately recommend. Our 4 year old had a ball from the kids club, in room baby sitting (one of the same staff from the kids club), to having ice creams at the swim up bar. Will definately stay again next year.
Lovely, Great Service, Perfect for Kids!

Have been all over the world for vacation and this is one of the very few places that I would be happy to go back to again!
Booked while this was still the Crowne Plaza but arrived after Movenpick had taken over (the extremely positive Crowne Plaza era ratings seem to have dropped from Tripadvisor, bumping this fine hotel down in the ratings -- questionable considering the fact that the facilities, staff, rooms, etc. are all the same).
Went with my wife and two kids (4 yrs old and 6 months old) purely on Tripadviser reviews and ratings that had this down as the most child-friendly hotel in Thailand. We were not at all disappointed!
There is a Kid's Club/Zone where you can park the little ones (150 Thai Baht/hour for kids 4 and up with discounts and meals included for half days and full days, 200/hour for younger ones). Our son was begging to go there every day after the first day. The staff love kids and actively play with them all day long (making candles, kites, swimming, etc.). They have a room full of balls with a slide, toys, TV/DVD, etc. There is separate space for older kids (bigger toys, games, Sony Playstations). Babysitting by the same staff in your rooms is also easily arranged at 200 Baht per hour in the evenings.
The rooms are great. Didn't see the singles and doubles in the main building, but they must have nice views. Did see one of the family villas described by a previous Tripadviser review and they are as described. Other villas have plunge pools (overrated, if you ask me). We also learned about beach-side apartments with kitchens that are also available, though we did not look at them. We stayed in a 1br villa with a living room that served nicely as a bedroom for our 4 yr old. No charge for the baby crib. Very tastefully decorated, nice bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers (plus indoor bath), small outdoor patio with table and chairs. TV includes basic cable (plus cartoon network for kids). High-speed internet available at about $17/day (although the local Starbucks-type coffee shop also provides internet access for free with a coffee).
The main pool is fabulous with a slide for the kids, swim-up bar for adults, two baby pool areas, very nice and serene. Pool-side dining available with small, but nice menu. The Pacifica restaurant has a terrific breakfast buffet (be sure to book with the room!) and a great deal for seafood dinner buffets on Mondays. The Wildfire restaurant was a little disappointing, but we enjoyed the Brazilian all-you-can-eat speacial upstairs there.
Service was terrific (in spite of another Tripadviser review to the contrary). Hotel manager invites (some?) guests to cocktails and appetizers on Wednesday nights. Thai people adore children and are very, very nice.
August was actually a pretty good time to go. Supposed to be rainy season (we had rain for about an hour once over the course of 11 days), but as a result, occupancy is low (maybe 20-30%). No fights over lounge chairs or towels at the pool. No need to book the restaurants. It was a little overcast several days, but as we are not the sun-worhipper types we found it quite pleasant (try to plan your scuba diving for clear, sunny days!).
Karon beach is a nice location on Phuket. Cheap laundry services available by the kilogram, terrific Thai foot massages, and easy tuk tuk or taxi ride to the overdeveloped Patong area and to more upscale areas. Highly recommend scuba diving (can be arranged at one of the hotel pools), men's custom suits at Tom's in Patong, and dining at Joe's Downstairs (just north of Patong).

We stayed in a family villa for 7 days but decided to extend our stay as we loved the hotel, the villa was fab two bedrooms with a living
area and also a room with bunk beds for younger children. There
is three pools, the main pool has a pool bar and loads of things
for children to do. Would definately recommend this hotel
to families with small children and teenagers.
Terrible! Never again!

Did a lot of research when planning our trip to Phuket (tripadvisor.com, travel agent, hotel websites, etc.) and I had a goo feeling when booking a five-night stay at the Moevenpick. The room was a plunge pool villa (130 USD). The room was small, no decoration on the walls, the pool was in shoddy condition and the outside seating area was small. It was very dark in the room and it did not feel nice at all. My girlfried and I left within 30 minutes and went back to the JW Marriott where we stayed the previous week.
The entire hotel appeared to be in need of some refurbishment works. It somehow shows that the hotel had not only a change in management (from Crowne Plaza to Moevenpick) but ownership changed as well (previously a private equity company, the hotel now belongs to Saudi investment group).
My advise: If you don't want exceptional service, can get a good deal, and want the closeness to Karon beach and Patong, you'll be fine here. If you are looking for a five-star experience, there are better options (the JW Marriott or the Sarojin in Khao Lak). The hotel might get better if some remodelling is carried out by the new ownsers.
Our brilliant Phuket family holiday
from jtnru
We have just returned from our fantastic holiday at the Moevenpick resort. My family ( 2 adults and 2 children 9,7)stayed in two interconnecting deluxe seaview rooms on the 5th floor. The rooms were perfect for our family, enough room and with nice views. We did consider upgrading to interconnecting courtyard villas which looked wonderful but decided to stay where we were but will do so next time.
Breakfast was superb with plenty of food on offer ( even having my sons favourite cereal Milo). We often had lunch around the pool with the children being particularly fond of the kids menu
(drink, meal and ice cream for 200B) which offered spag bolognese, hot dogs, burgers etc. We also enjoyed the light lunches available ( foccacias burgers etc) .We ate in the restaurant a couple of times the food was nice but possibly overpriced compared to similar restaurants in patong beach . We ate at Wildfire ( pizza restaurant on site) a couple of times as well which we can highly recommend. There was a convenience shop on the ground floor which sold ice creams coke and beer etc which was handy and at reasonable prices as well.
The pools were all fantastic with the children enjoying the slide at the main pool and we all enjoyed the swim up bar.
We used the gym a couple of times which was well set out with suitable equipment for a quick work out.
My kids loved The Zone and spent a lot of time in there- they made lots of friends in the zone and often decided to spend time there rather than come shopping with us in Patong. The staff were fantastic with lots of wonderful resources for them to enjoy.
My son particularly enjoyed the PlayStation and also the pool games with the staff.
The only downside of our stay was the language difficulties with the staff and the slowness of service around the pool. But with new owners I'm sure this will change.
Whilst Karon beach is quieter we found that a tuk tuk to patong beach for 200 b one way was a quick and enjoyable ride.
This is one of the nicest cleanest resorts we have stayed in and would definitely recommend this hotel and are already planning our return for next year.
