Historical Traveler Reviews Crane Ridge Resort Negril

Is it worth it

Very nice, safe and you'll feel secure except when you are in the standard rooms. Everything on the outside is very gorgeous. Inside my room looked 1 step from project living. The room I stayed in needed major work and was stuck there my entire week taking cold showers and waiting for someone to bring me a light bulb. By the way never got the light bulb and never got the bathroom issue fixed. Eventhough it was a Easter weekend I felt like the staff weren't very cooperative with me unless I flash some US$dollars to get someone's attention. So I had tto compromise my whole vacation. I had better time in the streets of Ocho Rios than inside my room. I will contunie to go back to Jamaica to visit but recommend people not to lodge @ the Crane Ridge Resort.

Watch out

The Crane Ridge is located in a very beatuiful area of Ocho Rios. Very close to alot of shops, bars, beaches, parties, etc. The staff were very nice and pleasant. BUT the 1st problem was I had to bathe with cold water. I would call the maintenance staff on a regular basis and never got nothing fixed that I requested. Plus the gift shop is a big rip off compared to other gift shops in the area. Since the hotel rooms are so reasonable but the service isn't excellent at all. Beware. If you decide to stay there make all arrangements with the hotel directly befire you arrive because you'll have to wait close to an hour to have any trannsactions done as far as checking in. I hope the boss/manager reads this.

Mixed Reviews

The Crane Ridge Resort (aka, Comfort Suites) was at first impression not as bad as my boyfriend and I expected considering that we got a real bargain for our 5 days/4 nights stay. It's a really beautiful place nestled nigh on a steep mountain with a great view of Ochos Rios. he place is nicely layed out with the hotel rooms popping out of what looks like a forest of tropical plants and coconut trees.

Although, the staff was great and the service was pretty good. There were some inconsistencies. A wake-up call got missed. The Front Desk failed to let us know about any events going on at the resort such as the manager's reception.

Our room was clean but the pillows smelled moldy. I couldn't sleep well 'cause of the mildew-like smell. Also, the comforter could use some fabric softener. It was a bit rough on the skin.

We only ate breakfast here so we don't know how the other food rates. We did order pizza once. If you are from NYC, you will not find this pizza tasty enough.

Also, there's no real "scene." It's a real desolate bar scene at night.

Overall, great value for the money.

Nice place, loud at night 12/25 - 1/6/03

When we arrived we were pleased with the Resort, it was well kept, clean and everyone was very pleasant. The rooms were nice and tropical. We had a pool side room near the vollyball net and the hot tub. This turned out to be a bad location since everynight a group of people decided to play vollyball all night and sit in the hot tub laughing and having a great time. The music played from the restauant/bar area was very loud at night. You could feel and hear the base from the music but not really the song itself. If you stay take your own beach towels since the resort takes up towels in the morning to wash and brings them back in the evening. It was not a problem for us but if we had not brought some towels we would have been in need. The kitchen in the suite was not well equipped but you could ask for the item you needed from the front desk and they did their best to provide. The food was excellent, I would recommend room service over sitting in the restaurant since the wait was sometimes very long. We did enjoy the people and our stay but came home exhausted from minimal sleep.

Whilst staying at the crane ridge hotel i had one of the best holidays of my life. The food was great, beds comfortable and to top it off we had great weather. Okay there was not alot to do at night but we stayed in the pool till whatever time we wanted and the bar was open till late.

The best part of my whole holiday was the pool..abousolutly massive, very clean, life guards on duty and most of the time empty!!!

If you want a nice relaxing holiday with still lots of things to do definatley come here!!!

Crane Ridge wait staff need to be trained

I was on vacation in the Crane Ridge for 10 days in July 2002 .And the wait service was lousy they would put you to sit without a menu and when they did come back it would take them some time to return. It took me 1 hour to get some service from them and after I got it .It took me anouther 45 minutes to wait for the food. They dont have a cash register in the dining area so if they are required to give u change they have to go across the street to get which could take them some time to return.

Never Again!!!!!

Upon arrival to this resort I thought to myself, this is sooo nice. We were up on a nice hill overlooking the surrounding city of Ochi. The reception was cordial not friendly. We were not greeted with anything cool or refreshing to drink and it was very hot! We were shown our rooms and my mouth just feel open. First of all the room was musty/mildew smelling. Then as I continued the bathroom wasn't the cleanest and the resort showed some signs of needed repairs inside and outside. I was determined that nothing was going to ruin my much needed vacation. So I somehow adapted. I was here for a total of 8 days. I didn't have a face cloth/washcloth for 3 days (luckily I brought my own). Some days I didn't have a towel to dry off after a showere (again, I brought my own). It was like pulling teeth trying to get someone to bring you linen. Housekeeping would come in the morning to collect you dirty towels and not return until after 3pm with clean linen and to finish cleaning your room. The TV's in both rooms needed to be thrown away. My sister even had to request a new TV because her's was on its last leg. The cable went out frequently. The continental breakfast was the same dried cakes everyday. However the hostess' in the dining area were very nice and friendly. The restaurant food was delicious. Sometimes it would take a little long but I think the chef was putting on the finishing touches. The food actually tasted better than some of the larger top rated hotels. The jerk chicken was awesome. (Some good points too!) Besides having to fight for linen and cable, they claim that room service is available 24hrs a day. Not so! I called for some tea around 9pm and was told the person who is in charge of that is not around at the moment so try back in the morning. Also certain items on the menu were not available from the kitchen. Remember there is no such thing as a free local call. The phone calls are expensive. Beware that everyplace you go has a different money rate, so ask be

me Jamaican money on the side. I found that everyone will take U.S. money and give Jamaican money for change. So don't be afraid to ask them to show you how they figured the amount if you not sure.

Crane Ridge

Got to the crane ridge on 6 June 2002. The receptionist was great. The buildings showed some age but were well styled and tiled floors were very clean. I had a room with an ocean view however the location was on a steep hill so it made walking to the town or beach a little hard. Cabs are available however it could get a little costly if ypu plan to be on the town a lot (of course they always have their hands out for tips).

Bad Stuff. The hot water did not work in our room. They called maintenance he check said he would return but never did. The office said they would move us the next day and we should pack our stuff. We wasted the whole day waiting for a room that we did not get until after 4 p.m. The room we were moved to was at least 2 steps down from the first with construction that blocked the view and they gave us 2 single beds. We had to request house keeping put them together. Of course no one bother to check the hot water that did not work in this room either so we had to wait on the maintenance guy to fix the heater in this room also (more time lost). We were only give two towels per day and was still only allowed two after asking house keeping for more. I had to contact the General Manager to get four towels per day.

There is no such thing as a free local call and if you have to make a call home then get a phone card. On a five star rating I would give the Crane only one star simply because the personnel (front desk and bar) were very pleasant.

I chose to continue my stay at the Crane because I did not want to waste anymore time searching for a hotel as we had already lost one day waiting for a room. Once we got one we just limited the time we spent there. It was just somewhere to drop our bags while we were out.

We did get to see the Mike Tyson fight for free (thanks to the National TV Station) but that too was a waste.

If you choose to stay at the Crane be sure to consider what it is you expect for $75

Fabulous time at Crane Ridge

What a wonderful, stress free resort to spend a week at. We had the time of our lives. The resort was exceptionally clean, and safe. The staff were fabulous. We felt we were among family. I would like to see an improved and larger gift shop and also a bit more variety in the food menu. It was, however, still great and we plan on viiting again with more family. Thank you Crane Ridge for you marvelous hospitality. You made a dream come true for someone from Canada who had never been to the tropics.

The Best Vacation Possible

I was at the Crane Ridge for two weeks in March 2002. My vacation was perfect from A to Z. The resort was first rate (**, my foot!!) The food was absolutely delicious. The room was kept spotless. All the resort personnel were very friendly and helpful and always in a good mood. I will definitely be going back there in the very near future.

Arrival into JA

... a couple weeks ago. This place is amazing. California King. Jacuzzi tub, a living room area. It's up to date and great. We go to dinner and get some much needed grub. At the buffet, they only served beer, wine, juices, or coffee/tea. We had some red stripe. Because, really, why not. After we finished our late dinner, the show finished, so we headed to the sports bar for some drinks. Took a shot with ...

Wednesday, 11th February, Bloody Bay to Lucea Lucea

We'd agreed on a late start today, so we all slept in. We had a head wind again, so had to continue our journey under motor. It took us about 3 hours to get to our destination, the beautiful wine glass shaped bay of Lucea Lucea. Along the way we saw lots of flying fish and beautiful coastline. At the entrance to the bay there was a monstrosity of a hotel, ...

... Bay on the west end of Negril. The bay and beach are beautiful but the whole place is filled with enormous tourist resorts. Belly and Wendy did some snorkelling on a nearby reef then gathered Rick up and they did a long walk on the beach past dozens of tourist souvenir stalls.

Back on the boat we had dinner and did a bit of catching up of diary writing, photos, emails ...
