    ... Not a lot actually. We have spent quite a bit of time at the beach or by the pool, and a half day walking around a big gun emplacement facility which was built in the 1920s against invasion and to defend the port of Cartagena, but which was never used. This was an amazing place and the guns were enormous. They had a reach of 35km.

    ... meant we had to wait until the following day before we could fully appreciate that we really were in the middle of a desert. The resort is lovely, but step outside and you are immediately plunged into a moonscape. You have to travel pretty far to find any greenery, but there are some nice sandy beaches nearby.
