Dis-Comfort Suites Maingate
Stayed at the hotel May 31- June 3 & June 6-8 (We were supposed to leave June 10th, but we were so frustrated with the unconcerned attitude of the desk staff that we left early and stayed elsewhere). The hotel is generally clean, breakfast was very good (lots of competition for the waffle makers - you'll need some patience), lots of variety for breakfast -- eating area is too small. Pool was very large and clean, but kiddie pool had lots and lots of bugs. We found one 2" cockroach in our bathroom -- I called the front desk and they did not care one bit. Beds themselves were very comfortable, but the mattress cover has plastic between two layers of fabric, and it was impossible to get a good nights sleep (that's the whole point of a hotel -- right??). We sweated like pigs all night long, and the mattress pads made plastic crackling sounds, and got all bunched up & lumpy. We called housekeeping to see if we could get something different, and they did not return any calls. Desk staff did nothing to help -- just said, "Keep calling housekeeping". Pillows are only about 2" thick -- like sleeping on a pancake. Again, could not even get them to bring a few extra pillows so that we could be comfortable.
The biggest frustration occurred on our second set of nights. At the time I'd made the reservation, I told them that we'd be returning from a Disney Cruise & could we check in early. "No problem!" we were told. When we checked out from the first set of nights, I made the same inquiry -- "no problem!" I was told again. After the cruise, we arrived at the hotel at about 11 a.m. ~~ the desk clerk would not let us check in. Claimed that housekeeping had not cleaned anything yet (we were awakened by housekeeping carts at 7 am, so we knew that this was just not true). She refused to let us check in -- held firm that 4 pm was check in and that was that. We had a sick child (she has chronic fatigue syndrome) and the desk clerk was immovable. So we left and went to some Disney resorts to kill time. We returned at 1:30 and just decided to wait in the lobby and see if other people were getting their rooms. People coming in off the street were getting rooms, so the clerk finally budged and let us have ours. I filed a formal complaint with Choice hotels.
I stayed here in October 2003 with my three children (8, 10, and 15) as well as my grandparents (in their 80's). We were very pleased. The rooms were spacious and clean. My kids loved the frozen drinks from the poolside bar. All the staff we dealt with were very pleasant.
Breakfast in the morning was a bit crowded. But all worked out well with just a bit of patience. Since one of the days my grandfather was sick, my grandmother was allowed to bring him food back to the room (there was some rule about eating in the dining room for the continental breakfast). My 15 year old son got into making his own waffle (they provide the batter and waffle iron).
The pool was large and never crowded. My 8 year old spent a lot of time there. Her siblings loved chasing lizards around the complex. We saw several beautiful birds in the parking lot (one I think was a heron from the nearby swampy area).
There is a shopping center next door. Remember to get coupons from the hotel lobby! We had dinner at Subway one day and TGI Friday's another. Plus treats from Dairy Queen. There is a grocery store that we used to stock up on supplies.
I am booked to stay there again this August. With the variety of hotels in the area, there is no way I'd stay unless I felt that everything about the hotel was wonderful...and it was. Email me if you have any questions: firstname.lastname@example.org
We just returned from a week stay at the Comfort Suites Maingate.
Myself and 3 daughters traveled with a friend and her 2 boys and were very pleased with the accomodations. We found a great deal on Travelocity for a total of $54.00 night (tax included) so we couldn't go wrong. Rooms were nice and clean, bigger than most other rooms, especially Disney area. We also wanted more towels and soap, so I left the housekeeping staff a note on the bathroom counter and found more towels and a pile of soap bars upon returning to my room. The pool was very nice, heated with a hot tub. THe childrens pool was cold, but the kids were fine in the others so no big deal. Drinks were a little pricey, but there is a grocery store next door, as well as many restaurants and a DQ for a treat. Walgreens very close as well. Neither of us had trouble with showers, or loud neighbors, in fact one day I heard a phone ring in the room next door, that was it. Two great things about this hotel is that they don't charge for phone calls (a plus in my book) and best of all they had security guards walking around in the evening and night. Not only through the parking lot and up and down the halls, but physically checking doors to make sure they were locked. I felt very safe and secure there. Laundry facilities were very nice and clean. Only complaint would be that breakfast is crowded and if you don't go early, they do run out of items. They still will have cereal nad make your own bagels, waffles, toast or oatmeal, but donuts, muffins, fruit and hard boiled eggs would be gone. All in all this hotel was certainly a good deal and we were all very pleased with it.
Check around on the internet for deals.
Just what we were looking for
We wanted a reasonable priced motel, very clean with a nice pool and continental breakfast close to Disney. We were very pleased. The pool area is very pleasant and large with a bar, the breakfast offerings were good, although it got a little crowded at times. The staff was super friendly and the room was very clean. Also, a grocery store and several restaurants within walking distance.
A Little disappointed
I booked this hotel based on all the positive reviews. I must say I was disappointed. The suite was supposed to accomodate 6 people. We have a party of 5, were trying to save some money on hotel. Boy! we were wrong. Let me describe the negative sides of this hotel: (1)The 2 queen size bed were fine, but the sofabed was terrible. It was old and way too soft. We ended up with a person sleep on the sofa, not on the sofabed. (2)Breakfast was so-so. Shouldn't have said it as a deluxe continental breakfast. If you go after 8am, chances are you have to wait for a table. (3)Hotel is very cheap. We have 5 people, but only gave us 4 sets of towel everyday for 6 days. We have to ask for more everyday. Shampoo bottle was very small and can only used by 2 people.
(4)Very noisy at night, and our room was NOT at poolside. You can hear kids running around on the corridor and guests pulling their luggages for late arrivals. Also you will hear the next room taking showers. No hot water before 6am.
Great for the money
Very reasonable hotel. Convient location near many stores, resturants, and even a grocery store. Staff extremely helpful and cheerful. Basic accomodations but good for the price. Shuttles were crowed but since they were free they were more affordable than a car rental. Stayed for 10 days loved it and would definitely go back there again.
Nice Area, Nice Hotel
I decided to stay here based on the reviews I read, and I have to say I was pleased. I didn't expect this much for the price we paid. The area was great, especially since we didn't have a car with us. It's right next to a shopping area with good restuarants like Fridays, and Giordano's, which has amazing stuffed pizzas. There was a goodsized supermarket right there, not a dinky one like the other "supermarkets" you see along the road. There's a public bus stop very closeby, so if you don't have a car but want to visit different areas, it's very easy, and cheap too. We especially liked that fact that the hotel offered shuttes to Universal and other places besides just Disney World. The shuttle drivers were extremely nice and very helpful. I don't know how crowded the shuttles get during the peak season, since they do make multiple stops, but they weren't too bad when we went (early January).
I thought the staff in the hotel was very kind, they assisted us whenever we needed them, and we were always greeted with hellos and how are you's as we passed any employee. The room was pretty clean. We did see an ant on the bathroom counter the first day, but in a warm area, you can't really avoid bugs. The breakfast was decent, if you go early enough, you get your pick of Krispy Kreme donuts!! The selection is basically all carbs, but it was decent enough. The pool area was very well maintained, very clean. The water was very warm if you like that, there were people swimming in it when it was 40 degrees out! We saw all types of people staying there, from students like ourselves, to families, to senior citizens. I really enjoyed my stay there, and the people I went with said that if they ever came down to Orlando again, they would definitely stay there. So would I. :)
Quite a let down
I booked this hotel based on the good reviews. I must say that we were disappointed. The hotel was very dirty. The staff were indifferent at best. The breakfast buffet that everyone raved about was not that great. Maybe I am spoiled d/t staying on Disney property when we visit Orlando but this hotel was really not what I expected.
Great for families
Stayed for 2 weeks. Cont. breakfast ok - toast cereal, donuts, yogurt, etc. Great swimming pool and deck. Hot tub was hot. Rooms were kept clean and were a great deal. Close to Disney and shopping. Staff friendly. Would stay again. Very quiet except for our kids.
Great hotel at a reasonable price
Spent one night at this hotel and it was great. Clean, good staff, reasonable price. It was very enjoyable. We left a travel clock in the room and it had been turned in by the housekeeping staff and I was able to pick it up later in the week.

JC has been enjoying his time at home with the family since he retired just before the holidays. We planned an extended trip to Florida- 5 weeks; this will be a first for us. It's always hard to be away from home for any period of time but with a new little one in the family it's harder. In just 7 weeks Caleb has grown so much and Gabriel ...

Early In the morning Kaleb and I headed into St. Cloud to wash the car and for Kaleb to spend some of his a Christmas/birthday money. Late afternoon we headed to Downtown Disney with Ray. Tonight the place was packed but we had a good time. As we were walking around, I realized I did not bring my Hidden Mickey book to locate them around Downtown. I quickly google searched for a few to find. We headed to the World of a Disney store to shop. Inside while Jodi ...
... cute and my salad was delicious. I really wanted to try the Oooey Gooey Toffee Pudding that everyone raved about on the internet. It was really good. We had reservations at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Florian for the character buffet at 6:10 and made our way over there. We arrived early so we sat in the lobby and listened to the beautiful live piano and the jazz band. They did a great job. The piano man played Somewhere Over the Rainbow and a song from Phantom ...
