      Lovely Desert Oasis

Nice location, an oasis in the big red desert. Very good restaurant. Rooms are very plain, but tidy and clean. For the remote location, it's a very, very nice place.

Well located by the Todd River. Just a 5 min walk to the Todd Mall and 10 mins to the cultural precinct!

Bags out at 5:50 AM for airport departure. Glad I got day to night contacts that you can keep in for 30 days for this trip. Saves time. Another travel hint: I'm not a big breakfast person so eat something light and keep a piece of fruit for mid morning. Can also make trail mix from dried fruit and nuts at oatmeal bar. (Keep some ziplock sandwich …

Left Adelaide this morning and took the two-hour flight on Qantas to Alice Springs. According to our guide, we are now almost exactly in the middle of the continent, equidistant from all four sides of this squarish continent. It feels like it. Wow, lots of red dirt, rocks and gum trees. Flying over we mostly saw clouds, but as we approached the …

Another early breakfast then onto our desert experience. Our guide for the desert tour was Anne. She is an aboriginal and was very experience in the traditional ways of the aboriginal people. The park reminded me very much of the Arizona Sonoran Museum. Anne showed us the plants of the area and how they were used by the local people. She showed us …

We had an early breakfast and packed up for the airport. I have not done a tour that spent so much time in the airport. Because of Maree's planning and organization, it was doable. But, just not used to it. We also used Qantas for all flights so far and the in-flight staff has been very nice. We had a few minutes at the hotel, a moment to catch a …

On guided walks of Alice Springs Desert Park, we'll explore an array of native plant, animal, and bird species, and discover the deep spiritual and cultural connection the Aboriginal people have to the land.

Later, we visit the School of the Air, a unique educational group that teaches about 140 children living in remote Outback …
