... we were only there for one day. We flew north to the village of Gizo. Luckily the people are unaffected by what is going on in Honiara. We had an interesting plane ride there. The details of the story are long but basically we had the Prime Ministers uncle and family on the plane. Only he was in a casket in the back with the luggage unbeknownst to us until we got off.   • Before going to Fatboys I went online to try and book accommodation in Marovo Lagoon which was going to be my next stop. Most places don't even answer their phone so I knew trying to get somewhere online was a bit ambitious, so I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved!) when Matikuri Eco Lodge, my second choice, not only had a website but a booking form!

  • Fatboys was a true holiday paradise experience. The snorkelling was great and the setting just stunning. The food was delicious. I ended up staying 3 nights mainly due to the generosity of the management who gave me a particularly good deal for my third night.   • On arriving at Gizo town, I went to look for a Resthouse that had been recommended in my LP guide. It was up a hill and the steps were uneven and steep.It was agony I tell you!   • On Wednesday I flew to Gizo, the Solomons second largest city. The domestic wing of Honiara airport is small and informal, with the check in desk being manned by 2 men, 1 who doesn't really look at your passport and the other who weighs your bag on a scale, then puts it on the luggage rack behind him.
