3- Island hopping and the merciless sun

13th Jan Kevin, Lek and I did meet up for a cocktail by the river which was gloriously extravagant... The Oriental is the most expensive hotel in Bangkok and very exuberant. Across town to the largest bar in Asia. I'm afraid I can't remember the name but it has a microbrewery and it's in North Bangkok... Bier something or other. The food was fab as ever. If I ever remember the name it comes highly recommended. Apparently one of the things Thais are really into is bowling. Lek was wanting to g...

Phuket - A beach junkie mecca!

Snorkelling, elephant trecking, islands hopping, ladyboy gazing! Overall the trip was one of the best ever. The only peeves are from those annoying thai speaking bangla who were hell bent on wanting to know where we're from! And ever saw those cool t-shirt crying 'Save Water Drink Beer' hang all over the night bazaar? I live by that during the entire trip!

When the bottles are opened and the taps are poured, great joy can be felt by all this season. From homes to bars, festive...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Central Karon Beach Resort Phuket

Quiet & new but needs improvement

from loves_holiday
Stayed 3 nights in Central Karon Beach Resort with my husband last week. We chose this place mainly because of 1. reasonable price / 2. quiet but near beach / 3. new.

Atmosphere is quite satisfactory since it's new, quiet & convenient....little bit off the main road of Karon Beach, but just about 3-5 min walk would get you to the restaurants & beach.

Staffs were nice and helpful, always greeting & smiling.

I saw the note that it's re-opened on Nov.15, 2006. But it seems that still some work was undone here and there. During daytime, some construction was ongoing.

Probably that's why it needs more improvement "overall".

Few examples

- We arrived hotel around 1:45pm but staff said we should wait about 30 min since our room was not ready yet. After we came back from lunch in 50 min, they said another 20 min due to water leakage in bathroom. We went out again and came back in 30 min...finally got a room but we had to give up some activity of arrival day.

- Our room was with a toilet + showerbooth. Water drain at shower was so slow. I had to stop showering for a while waiting for water drained away. We complained this 2 times but no improvement until we left.

- Breakfast was about the same everyday. Reasonable rate has a reason, but maybe some change can be done? I actually saw a woman complaining to a manager about the same breakfast everyday. :-P. Food quality was ok for me. But since it's in open-air, they should do something with the flies around the fruit corner...

Since there are many new resorts in Karon Beach, Central Karon Beach Resort would need improvement asap.

Poor Service-Lousy Breakfast

from SherwoodRanger
Staff in restaurant generally miserable-faced and on reception desk unhelpful. They couldn't do little enough for you! Rooms quite nice. Breakfast awful-warm milk for cereals, warm juice, poor selection, poor quality & poor service (ie, delivery of tea, coffee.)

Not a hotel to return to.

Tranquility

our two families stayed here in oct 2005 we were looking for rest and relaxation and this is what we got the hotels entertainment was a guitarist singer and although he was good it wasnt to uor tastes the meals were ok but we ate out and we frequented the resturant next door the kids were welcomed and they enjoyed playing with the dogs who were residence there the staff there were very friendly and it wasnt too far to walk back to our rooms after having one too many the rooms were cleaned thourally karon resort itself is a bit tacky but everyone we met was friendly and we got tuk tuks to visit different beaches our favourite beach was kata the kids really enjoyed this beach as a family we would recommend this hotel for parents who need a little r&r

Poor Quality Compared to Similar 3*

from miar
Stayed in Bangkok Palace Hotel for 3 days prior and what a difference !!

Bedsheets changed but were often carrying stains, lampshade in room showing signs of the humidity and thus stained. Excursions organised by them are available in multiple places outside hotel for less than half price for same trips. Exterior is looking as though money they are getting in is not being put back into upkeep. I was disappointed with this hotel, although staff were ok on the whole I would recommend the Surin bay hotel a few miles down road who have an excellent menu and rooms and service which our family came across on our travels. Hope this is of help to anyone travelling.

Acommodation Review

from chalmej
Just returned from Thailand and for anyone who like myself was unable to find any information on the Islandia Tropical Resort, here it is.....

Best known as the Islandia PARK Resort, there are 3 separate wings on the grounds. From oldest to newest: 1. Islandia PARK Resort, Large White Multi Storey building shown on their website. 2. Islandia PARADISE Resort, across the other side of the carpark. Has it's own Lobby/Reception and Restaurant which adjoins the 3 storey acommodation building. 3. Islandia TROPICAL Resort. 3 Storey building behind the Islandia Paradise resort and serviced by the Paradise staff. Each Hotel has it's own large swimming Pool. Absolutely beautiful resort and lovely people. One major complaint was 90% of the time the staff who man the front desk/reception do not understand a word of English. i.e. Laundry? Ice Bucket? Foot Massage? Wake up call? Room Service? etc. The gardener and a few of the other staff speak limited english but why on earth management place staff in such an important position with no understanding of english is beyong me. A very frustrating stay and Sadly, never again!

A fine base for a fine holiday.

This is a hotel which we were very impressed with. Whilst it is only a 3 star, you cannot deny that it is clean and efficiently run place. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, as you would expect being in Thailand.

The room, whilst being nothing special, is still clean and presentable. The company we booked with did not recommend children stayed due to the low balconies. This I did not understand, they are as high as any normal balcony.

The pool is really nice, but the better pool is over at the islandia paradise. It is mentioned that guestes at the Islandia park cannot use this pool, but we, nor anyone else, never had a problem, and the staff serve lovley food. If its a red hot day, they will bring a table and chairs out sprcially for you, and put them in the shade in the garden area-a nice touch.

Just one little thing-the internet service is crap, go over the road instead. Also, don't buy your tours off your rep-buy them locally. We went to Phi Phi Island for £11 each-with a hol rep is was £38. We were on the same boat as our rep!

Finally-stick to Karon beach. patong is garbage, a bit like Magalluf in the East-crap bars and a bad atmosphere. Avoid!

But getting back to the hotel-no problems. Enjoy.

One more thing-go to the hotel bar in the early evening and listen to the man singing with his guitar-he is excellent, no joke.

Great Hotel, Pity so quiet.

Stayed here for 8 days. Lovely hotel. Very sad that there are very few people in Karon and Phuket, generraly. Hotel staff outnumbered guests! Staff great, restaurant closed for renovations but not a problem.Night life in nearby Kata a bit better. We (six of us) left prematurely for Ko Samui as weather detiorated. Would definitely go back. P.S. Go to dentist nearby. Brilliant work and,oh,so cheap!!

All round 'good' hotel

from MrsLCH
We stayed here for 1 week mid April and would recommend it to anyone. The hotel itself was quiet, we hardly ever saw any other guests, which made it really relaxing. The restuarant was closed while we were there but there are loads of restaurants nearby.

The rooms were fairly compact but certianly nothing to complain about and cleaned daily, the staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.

In general, the hotel could probably do with a bit of updating but offers great value for money.

Beautifully kept hotel but with some underlying problems.

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is beautifully kept but there were problems with the plumbing resulting in our bathroom being flooded and us needing a room change.

This rooms bathroom was also slightly wet everytime you had a shower. Overall, far superior to the three star rating.

The staff are the friendliest of any hotel i have been to and bent over backwards to ensure all guests were happy and contended.

We dined in the restaurant on our first night. Excellent food but pricey and there is far better all around in Phuket at extremely reasonable prices.

Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.

Karon Beach is amazing. Soft sand and the sea just lovely.

Kata Beach is about a five minute drive away and is a hidden paradise,a must see.

Definately worth a visit, incredible value for money with as much excitement or tranquility anyone could wish for.

Will write another review after our visit in May.

Great Hotel For The Money, Although Resort of Karon a Bit Tacky

from Salsky
Lovely hotel with a nice spa, 3 or 4 pools with swim-up bars, beautifully kept grounds and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Punches well above its supposed 3-star rating in my opinion. Didn't try the restaurant as it was totally deserted ever night, and Karon Beach, the resort it's located in, has become a bit tacky, but that's another story. Overall, superb value for money.
