By now we'd done and seen enough and decided to head back to the calmer south coast for one last snorkel. We dropped Lily home as she wasn't keen but Hannah KT and I piled in and went to Poipu State Beach once again. We were a bit crafty this time though, and packed some fish food which ensured we ...

We proceeded on and got to the bottom of the Canyon but discovered shortly after that his advice was good and we weren't going to be able to continue. We turned around and headed back to the parking lot, which was just fine by Nate since the most exciting part of ...

There were only three seats in the back, which were reserved for those up front who get fatigued from hanging on. We went to the fitness center to meet up for the walk, and found out that the instructor had called in sick. So we got the directions and did the walk on our own. It wound around the edge of the water, then through a residential area with beautiful homes, a park and a beach known for it's boogie boarding called Brennecke Beach. There were some great rentals across from the beach, that we would love to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Castle Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows Poipu

    Great Value

    from

Needed a place to stay for 3 nights in early January 2004 and came across a web special for the Kiahuna Plantation for $139/night, which is a great price for Hawaii. I had a 1 BR, 1 bath condo with a kitchen and living room. For an additional $100 I could have upgraded to an ocean front unit (and if my wife were with me I'm sure we would have).

I was near the road, which wasn't a problem, noisewise, and it was a 5 minute stroll to the ocean. Since I was near the road, I had a very short walk to the restaurants, bars and shops in Poipu Village. The only drawback was the early morning wake-up call courtesy of the ubiquitous roosters. But for $139 per night, I couldn't complain too much.

I've been to a LOT better

    from

We stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation for a week. The first two nights we stayed in #145 which was on the ground floor away from the ocean, BUT HAD WONDERFUL FURNITURE and you could tell the owners really care about it. Unfortunately, we moved to the top floor in building #26 for the view BUT the decor appeared to have been done in the early 1970's and was in much need of repair! The pool area was across a busy road next to the Poipu Shopping Center rather than on the property. We were so disenchanted that we walked over to the Marriott Waikoloa and purchased a time-share so we would never end up in a place that bad again.

I would like to say that this resort was...

    from

This place was great. They have a pool, tennis courts, a work-out room, and a golden sand beach. Kiahuna Plantation has a sort of taste to it; they have beautiful roosters, pretty hens, and cute chicks. The roosters stick out while the hens and chicks hide, so it looks like they only have roosters, but the hens come out once in a while. The unit, is wooden and the owners of the units made the furniture indavidually. The 40-42 buildings are way in back. The kitchens has all the things you need. The beds aren't exellent for people with bad backs. I would recommend this resort to people who have come to relax and enjoy themselves.Try not to get lost: it's a big place!

    No Worries

    from

This is the place to be in Poipu if you want easy access to a beautiful beach, wonderfully manicured grounds and a staff that takes care of you but is not intrusive in any way. We were there in Nov, '03 and stayed for ten days. We were in the worst situated buildings of the whole complex (40-42) but I still found it a relaxing comfortable condo. The big problem with our location was proximity to the road and a bit of a walk to the beach (through the plantation grounds). The road noise (30 mph about 100 feet away) quiets down after 10 and if you are of normal fitness you won't mind the walk, but if you are paying good money and have a choice get a closer condo to the beach. The furnishings were typical bamboo based flowery stuff, clean and in good shape. The queen bed was firm. Because the bedroom is not soundproof to the rest of the condo (or to the outside because instead of windows there are wooden louvers), you may have a privacy problem if you are sharing with others. (You will also hear neighbors on their lanai and in their shower) There are dishes and pans but not even a grain of salt in the kitchen. Be prepared to stock up a kitchen if you are going to cook (which you will if you care about money at all). Food is very expensive in Hawaii!! All in all this place has the flavor of older Hawaii with the amenities you expect of modern hotels. Plus the chickens! (You'll see what I mean when you get to Kauai)

    This place is awesome

We rented the a condominium at the Kiahuna Plantation for our wedding/honeymoon.They are exceptionally well kept, with beautiful landscape and excellent room service. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The condo had all the amenities, plus a gorgeous view.Situated on the south side of Kauai they are very close to major attractions, shopping areas and restaurants. We will defnitely try to stay ther on our next visit.

    Kiahuna Plantation - Castle Management

    from

Stayed in a 1 bedroom condo for 4 nights in December. This is an older condo building and each condo is decorated by the owner so there is a big difference from one to another. Ours was adequately furnished, although the bed was not that comfortable. Kitchen furnished with the essentials but they don't provide everything. We found having daily maid service in the condo a nuisance, because all they do is make your bed and empty the trash. There is no swimming pool, etc on the grounds - you have to go next door to the Marriott. The beach was clean and very long but it was quite steep.

    Loved the Kiahuna Beachouse

    from

We have stayed at the Kiahuna yearly for the last 18 years except for Iniki period. We honeymoon'd there, then started bringing our daughter as a toddler (now 14 1/2). We love this spot. Each unit is so comfortable and a second home when we arrive. Had to try a couple different locations during the Iniki rebuild and none compared to the location, atmosphere, friendliness of the Kiahuna. Recommend it to all family and friends, and we keep coming back! In fact in the process of purchasing our own unit!

    Nice place

    from

We stayed here 6-28-03 to 7-7-03. It is a very large Condo complex in the heart of Poipu. Some units are right on the ocean and others are set back about 1/4 of a mile. We stayed in building 41 which is at the back of the complex but near the pool and shopping areas. Our one bedroom room was nice and clean. These condos are owned by individuals and rented out by the Outrigger hotel chains. Each has a kitchen, sperate bedroom, 1 bathroom and a pull-out couch. Our kids really enjoyed the beach in fron of the hotel which is just east of the popular Poipu beach aand right next to the Sheraton Resort (and beachside bar!). I would recommend this complex and the price was right to stay ina building far away from the water.

    The Hawaiian part of Heaven

    from

We've stayed here twice, both times in oceanfront units. What can I say...we've traveled the world and this is one of our favorite places. A beautiful spot to relax. There may be units which offer more, but the surroundings are one of the best Hawaii has to offer.

    Oustanding Location / Excellent Accomodations

    from

We stayed at the Kiahuna in late Jan./early Feb. 2002. The property is located on a fabulous beach and has very nice, well-kept grounds. We actually saw the inside of three different one bedroom units and they all were very nice (well furnished, updated appliances, very clean, large lanai, etc.)
