... He's got a nice life. He sleeps all day, wakes up
just after sundown and eats fresh fruit that is delivered to his home,
then he has company. One of the best parts of the stay at L&F is
visiting Rocky. He is so lovable and playful. Like Captain Jack, the
white faced monkey from earlier in my trip, Rocky has opposable thumbs
and he lives to climb on people. He also likes to gnaw on fingers, ears
and noses! It only hurts a little! He has a really strong ...
Chiriqui, Panama farrahfig... our departure, we boarded the boat
once again and headed back. Soon after our arrival at the dock, the
biologist informed us that the news was coming. They wanted to hear
our story.

During our miles and miles of walking on the beach, without a single
egg saved, I felt discouraged. But now I have come to a different
conclusion. We set out to help protect the turtles, and that is what
we did. The main Panamanian news station played our story ...
David, Panama noreen2837... these kid's smiles was absolutely priceless and heartwarming! Goodbyes are never easy, and saying goodbye to these children was no exception, but it was an experience I'll never forget.

After volunteering, Robb led us across the street, through a field and down the gorge to the river for some down time. It was QUITE the hike! Pretty much one of those slide-down-on-your-butt hikes..the whole way! But it was worth it- the ...
Boquete, Panama jeridolp... or latin names of things. He may not even know what the plant or insect is generally called, but he will gladly put something in the ground to see if it grows, or see if the insect will feed next to the plant its feeding on to see if the plant acts as a deterrent for the pests. Its all a case of trial and error with him. I have to admit I got a bit of a shock when I was introduced to him, for Coenje looked almost identical to my late oupa Coenie (weird how they ...
David, Panama mardow... potatoes, goat cheese, tomatoes finished with marigold vinaigrette. YUM. Main course I had to pass on, it was lamb. I’m not opposed to trying new things, but I eat enough land animals and have an issue with adding anymore to my list. But the dessert…oh my goodness the dessert. Passion fruit soufflé with a vanilla bean cream sauce to cool the middle. I decided that I am going to marry the soufflé and become a polygamist. xoxo
Boquete, Panama scotthumphrey... as there were no places for a drink in the area he said he'd be in. I owe you one Shane. But my legs are (somewhat) silky smooth! Hmmm.

There are heaps of lottery stalls all over the streets, similar in Costa Rica also. We bought some beers called Soberana - and yes they were minimal in alcohol content and sobered us up. So we tried the local spirit that was like Vodka and it was good. We drank them from the hostels purple skull glasses. I say no more.

David, Panama shanemilli... but they are passable (at least in the dry), though they were a little hairy to cross. I'm glad I wasn't alone but it was definitely worth going. We even saw some quetzals (google it), which are apparently quite rare. They are beautiful birds. On reaching the end of the trail, we were lucky enough to be able to hitch a lift back to Boquete and save us the additional 12km walk along the road. Lady Luck was with us ...
Boquete, Panama lisa.gillespie... has a great time. She said she would never have more than three rooms, it would take away from the experience. There are no restaurants anywhere near, so all meals are provided onsite. We've had fabulous breads, out-of-this-world noodles, and fresh blackberry and strawberry sundaes (fruits from her garden). We had a killer salad fresh from the garden, and some tomatillo type fruit that is a strange blend of bitter and sweet. And, get this ...
Chiriqui, Panama thepotvins(Mar. 21) Feels good to be done with the major part of our bus rides south. Last time we were here in David we couldn't find a hotel due a big flower festival, but this time we figured it'd be easy to find a place and that we wouldn't need reservations. WRONG. Apparently the biggest festival of the year, the INTERNATIONAL FAIR of David is taking place this week. We walked all around town looking for a place that would accomodate 5 (as Cory would be arriving that night) but couldn't ...
Boquete, Panama ejmaue... mine is zombies (irrational you might think, but until I have a chat with you about rabies evolving, you are wrong! I have bored many of you with this already...think yourself lucky if I haven't done it to you!) anyway...so yes, irrational fear of zombies. So, walking on a volcano, with a wounded arm (yes, superficial wound, but it adds to the drama) not really knowing where we're going and suddenly...ZOMBIES! Well, I knew they were howler monkeys but I'm sure the ...
