We drove to Puerto Vallarta from Ft. Myers making several stops. First, we stopped in Mississippi and spent the night there. Then stopped in San Antonio, Texas. And spent 3 nights in a hotel. Maday and Stephane have friends there so we visited them. I met some new people. This was the begining to my adventure. Our 3rd stop was in Tequiscapian, …

We bought a condo in PV

This is one of the first trips in a long story. This was when we bought our pre construction condo and would find ourselves mired in problems. The trip and PV is a stunning place.

... checked out and the road there was a crazy, twisting road. No way could I ride that with a bad rim and almost flat tire. So I paid 400 pesos (about $35) and watched them heat and hammer the rim into something resembling its original shape. Good to go! Off to Guadalajara and then a Monarch butterfly sanctuary in the state of Mexico.

I like collecting a little something from each place I visit so I have something physical to remember the day with in the future. Memories are important to me. With so many elderly passengers on the ship, I’ve seen first hand what happens as you get old, so I try and take measures to make sure I have something to remember each day ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Casa Magna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

    JW and Casa Magna Marriott

    from

It was my first visit back to Cancun after almost 20 years, what a change. We stayed at the Casa Magna Marriott while friends stayed next door at the JW Marriott. What can I say, the place is beautiful, food was great, and the view and beach were incredible. The pool at the Casa was small but the JW pools made up for it. The beach outside both hotels were clean and the sand white as snow. Our view from the roon was just as beautiful. Service was great, friendly, and always with a smile. I cant wait to return, next time I'll try the JW.

Very happy with the CasaMagna Marriott

    from

We just got back from P.V. arrived 6/27 and returned 7/4. Definitely recommend the CasaMagna. Before going I had read a few reviews that gave me some reservations as to whether or not we made the right choice in our hotel selection. But all in all we were very happy and I would definitely recommend this property.

    Casa Magna Hotel Absolutely Beautiful

    from

About 30 us went to PV to celebrate a friends 50th (May 2), we all stayed at the Casa Magna. It was a beautiful place. The service was first class. I liked PV better than Maui. I live close to Mexico in San Diego, and have never seen a more beautiful place. Everything was clean, and people were very polite everywhere. Had the party at a little place called Titino's, downtown. These people went out of their way to make it a great night for all. The food was excellent. I will definitely go there again.

I'll never stay at Casamagna again!

    from

My friends and I stayed at the Marriott 5/20/03-5/25/03 and it was terrible! Let me say that for the most part the hotel staff was excellent. They were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. The hotel grounds were clean and beautifully landscaped, but that is all this hotel has going for it. I'll break this into sections so that you don't have to read every horrible detail if you don't want to. THE ROOMS If you decide to go after this review, get at least a partial ocean view room. They are on the other side of the hotel from the garden view rooms which are actually the construction view rooms. Our hotel room was clean, but smelled of mildew. Every time we tried to shower, the paint would peel out of the bathtub and clog the drain, so we spent most of the time in the shower kicking paint out of the way. We found that we were sharing our room with two huge roaches (roughly the size of waterbugs) that the maid kindly killed and swept into the corridor right outside of our room. Would you believe that this room was better than the first room we had? The Restaurants The hotel restaurants were not worth the money, so it was fabulous that the Marina was only about two blocks away. I recommend Taberna Marina, it's a little pricey, but they have excellent food and service. The only decent meal that you can get there is breakfast, otherwise head Downtown or to the Marina. The Spa Don't waste your money or time on a massage at the hotel spa unless you just like to be rubbed. The ladies who do them are very nice, but that is all they do, rub. There was no massage involved. Just lots of oil and rubbing. Kind of the way you would apply lotion to your own body. Still, it was very clean and had decent equipment if you want to work out on your vacation. Thieves!!! If you have anything of value, don't take it with you to this hotel. Do not leave any valuables in your room room. Thankfully, they had tipped my friends and I off to the fact that something suspicious was going on because someone kept calling our room and hanging up and maintenance kept showing up at our door to fix things that we had not indicated as needing repair. I immediately started carrying all of my valuables in my purse. They were so petty that they stole my friend's book from her luggage. Don't bother to complain since so many people have master keys to your room, unless you catch the person in the act, they don't do a darn thing about it. As a matter of fact, they act as if you are the one who "misplaced" your valuables. General Vallarta Info If you are going to do a cruise, avoid the 350 peso sunset cruise. The boat is called the Princessa and it is a dirty, worn down, hunk of junk. The crew was nice, but how do you have a good time on a dirty, almost empty boat? The pirate boat was much, much better and worth the 730 pesos. Change your money to pesos, you get a better rate because dollars are worth more than pesos so some places will purposely give you a bad exchange rate so that they can get more US dollars. Don't use Bital ATM's, big rip off. Unless you like timeshare meetings, when people offer you free coupons or free tours, keep walking. Always haggle with the vendors, most of the things they are trying to sell are cute, but not worth anything near the prices they are asking. If one person won't give you a good price for something, trust me, someone else will. Don't buy your souvenirs in the downtown area, go to Old Town/Old Vallarta. The area is near downtown and down the street from the church of Guadelupe. If you like being near the action, don't stay in Nueva Vallarta or Mismaloya. Both areas are way off the beaten path. I hope this was helpful even though it was extremely long.

    Definitely not up to par!

    from

Hotel gives good presentation and that is it! You get there and soon realize it is crap. The beach is gross -- in fact, no beach! You can hear everything in the rooms which made me feel like I was staying at a run of the mill motel. I don't know what annoyed me more but aside from the hotel, we had a great time. We barely hung around our hotel cause we visited friends at another hotel that had a much nicer beach. I've always loved Marriot but will never do CasaMagna for my next Puerto Vallarta trip again.

Casa Magna is Heaven on Earth

    from

We leave tomorrow for our 59th trip to Mexico, and our seventh to the Casa Marriott. We will stay three weeks. This is a fabulous resort hotel. The staff is outstanding, the rooms delightful, and the breakfast buffet the best ever. We can not say enough about the hotel, you can walk the marina, there are restaurants there, from low to high, you can take the bus downtown for four pesos and have your choice of over 2,000 restaurants. The pool is large and kept very clean. This is as close to heaven as it can get.

    Bad Experience at Marriott CasaMagna

    from

We had reserved a full ocean view room at the Marriott CasaMagna hotel in Puerto Vallarta for a full week last week beginning April 12th and were not pleased with our room. We reserved for a full ocean view room and the room we got was more or less a partial ocean view. You literally had to stand on the porch and lean out to see the ocean. The hotel is very beautiful and because of that we were not going to complain about the room but then later in the evening when we returned to our room to sleep, we found the bed to be extremely uncomfortable. Maybe other rooms were fine and it was just our bad luck. Neither of us have ever experienced such an uncomfortable mattress at a Marriott or anywhere. The mattress literally had lumps which felt like springs were poking through and it felt as though we were sleeping on the box spring. Then at 3am when neither of us could sleep because of the mattress, there was also the noise factor. The folks in the room next over were very loud. It was as if they were right in our room. We realize that the hotel was full and that this was the busiest time and also Spring break but this was whacked. We called the front desk later in the morning and told them about the uncomfortable mattress and they said someone would come by later and replace the mattress. We were very impressed with the response and ventured out for the day to start enjoying our vacation. When we returned in the afternoon, the mattress was still the same and was not replaced. We called the front desk again and someone then told us that nothing could be done about it. We then asked to have some extra pillows and thought that may help. The woman at the front desk put us on hold for a while so we hung up and called again and she put us on hold again for a long time. This time we hung up and called again and we asked if we could possibly just change rooms. We were told the hotel was all booked up and that nothing could be done. At that point, we decided it was best for us to change hoteview. First priority was to be able to sleep comfortably. We really wanted to stay at the Marriott especially because we are Marriott Rewards customers and being a Rewards customer and the fact that weve enjoyed our stays at other Marriott hotels did influence our decision on choosing the Marriott over other hotels. But, after this event, we did not want our vacation ruined by this. We packed up our stuff and went to the front desk to check out. Suddenly the front desk had other rooms available. At that point we were so upset because we kept getting the run around up until the moment that we let them know we were checking out and we did not want to stay any longer. This was not a good way to start our vacation and we were both very tired at that point from traveling and not getting sleep. Upon checking out, we were charged the one night that we stayed PLUS partial day. We do not feel we should have been charged for any of this but we willingly paid anyway. Aside from the hotel being beautiful, the accommodations were not comfortable and I think comfort should be first priority of a hotel. I hope you make good use of this feedback for your future vacation at Puerto Vallarta. It turns out that it was a good thing that this happened because we found an awesome place to stay! We stayed at the Camino Real!! Very Awesome!!

A great place to relax (but use your traveler's checks!)

    from

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. The hotel itself is fairly new, and very impressive-looking with lots of marble, waterfalls, and landscaping. The rooms were nice and clean, and every room had a balcony (although there was construction just beginning on the lot next to us, which will surely obscure the view from one side of the hotel once completed).

    Great place to stay

    from

We stayed at the Casa Magna in March of 2002. The resort was beautiful and everything was very clean.

The rooms are very nice, even though we had booked a room with double beds and got a king and a sofa sleeper.

The staff was helpful. The pool area is wonderful and the view of the ocean spectacular. The food however, isn't all that great. We ate at Champions and that had good food. But when we had scrambled eggs in the morning we think that they were powdered. The walk to the marina is very short, but the mall that the guide books talk about in the marina area is closed. There are some shops in the marina though. Overall the Casa Magna is a

    great place to stay!

    Bring lots of $$$$

    from

Stayed here in February 2001. Was very impressed at first, at the beauty and upkeep of the entire place, but that was quickly soured the following morning by awakening to the sound of construction going on in the building where we were placed. To make matters worse, our several attempts to be moved, fell upon deaf ears until after our 5th night, when I think they finally got sick of me complaining.

If you choose to eat breakfast here, I suggest pancakes or french toast. At the time we were there, it cost US $5 for two eggs and about US $12.

The only other thing that was real bad, is the pool area is to small for the number of people the place holds. Very crowded if you find some place to sit at all.
