Few days in the sun on the Carribean coast

Decided to make our way straight to the beach in Palencia, a small Caye on the Caribbean sea. Bumped into another Man Utd fan on the boat over from Guatemala, Paul, who turned out to be a good crack who introduced himself straightaway and told us that he was tagging along with us...like it or hate it!

Once we arrived there, it was absolutely roasting and decided to stop in the first bar we came across as the bags were feeling a bit ...

More Than a Woman Part II

... The people here seem to be very self-reliant and know that if you donīt take care of yourself, no one else here will.

Placencia is a decent enough place to kick back for a day and a night and being at the end of a peninsula in the middle of nowhere was a neat feeling. Again, the tiny grocery store here in this village of 2,000 is Chinese owned and operated. There is even a Chinese restaurant if you need a sweet and sour fix. Sorry Mr. Wong ...

Un-Belize-able!! How corny is that?

... The weather has been great, hot and humid as it should be. luckily pools and beaches have not been far away. Our flight went well, we had a huge lay over (almsot a full day) in Miami Beach, so we went and checked out the night life.We didnt want to spend a ton of cash and we didnt dress up (we only had our beach clothes) but we had a lot of fun walking aroudn downtown and people watching. Miami is a ...

Belize.... More Beach....

... and there I was thinking it was all about a man....).... It was a beautiful one and a half hour ride through the Belizean cayes (islands) and the turquoise Caribbean...... From San Pedro we caught a water taxi to another island, Caye Caulker to meet Mohamed, Tom, Jim and Quentin....... to do what everyone does in Caye Caulker. Nothing. Lovely. Belize couldn't be more different from Mexico. For a start they speak English. They worship ...

Camping in 'Jaguar' & snake territory and tubing!

... where upon we had our first unfortunate encounter with a poisonous snake! Whilst sitting under our little camp straw roof, the Swiss girls suddenly spotted a head sticking out of the straw and yes, there it was a 1 and a half metre length poisonous yellow and green colour snake!!!! Now I could see why the warden looked abit shocked when we said we wanted to camp. A few screams later it finally made its way into the grass (not sure if that is a good thing!) and we all then were on ...

... please." She says, "We have rice and beans, stewed chicken, and vegetables." There is a pregnant pause as we wait for option number 2. Oh wait... there is no other option... Now I get it, very well then! "Sounds great!" We head back to our humble room for a couple hours rest before our night tour at the jaguar reserve. Our guide Julian picks us up and drives us the 7 miles that take half an hour to traverse ...

... The water was 82 degrees. Subsequent dives were at Laughing Bird and Crawl Cayes. The walls are filled with life. Laughing Bird is a sanctuary, so be extra cautious about where your fins are. You'll need permission to dock on Crawl Caye. Let me know if you want contact information. I saw brain coral there the size of giant boulders! Stunning.

Southern Mayan Ruins

... system is quite intriguing. They have two. The one we use and then one that is a 260 day year. They also counted in 20's not 10's as we do.

There was one structure that had me and Anthony intrigued. A stone hallway with a round stone plate in the middle. Used as a ball game. Quite an important one we gather as the winner was sacrificed to the Gods - a high honour and held with upmost regard and dignity.

We had tagged ...

... the lower lying areas. ************e around. And what was so noticeable was the lack of litter, virtually no plastic bags at all; and the small towns and villages were generally immaculate. At Hopkins, a dusty little Garifuna village, we stayed at Jungle Jeanie's Resort; a 70 plus, marathon running, semi-hippy Canadian from Kelowna! Camped amongst her cabins and had a very peaceful two nights feeling very much at home. Then out to one of the Cayes which are dotted along the barrier reef ...
