    A real bargain

We took the 3-day, 2-night package just after Labor Day to get the off-season rates. We got a first floor corner room right on the main channel...the room was decent, if not spectacular, the view was breathtaking, and the ducks on the water below were always hungry! The package also came with a boat tour and a tour of Boldt Castle: The boat tour was interesting and fun, the castle less so...but it's being refurbished.

Our package also included four meals at the Captain's Landing restaurant; if we do this again, we'll do it without including the meals...the food was no better than average...sometimes not quite that good...and the service was slow, though generally cordial. Also, some of the more desirable items on the menu were only partially covered by the package price. In the restaurant's favor, they DID have a strawberry thing on the breakfast menu that was to die for!

In all, it was a decent experience for a decent price, and I'd do it again...if I had the same room and wasn't stuck with the in-house restaurant. In fact, without the restaurant experience, I'd have given it one more "dot" in the review.

I first wrote a review regarding this property back on Oct, 5, 2003. I have since been in contact with the Management of Capt. Thomson's and they have agreed to have this room tested and to correct any problems found. I also was given a refund on unused portions and the room. I am confident that they will follow through on their promise to investigate this potential problem and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. I believe that Capt. Thomson's is a good organization and that they were unaware of any problem as the normal symptoms would be flu-like and most people would not even raise a question. I am sure now that they are aware of a problem that they will correct it as it appears apparent to me that they were genuinely concerned with the situation. In closing I would say that I may try this property out again, as it was in a great location and if this problem is corrected it would be a fun place to visit.

    Fantastic Time!

Spent part of our honeymoon here - stayed on riverside, second floor, directly across from Boldt Castle. Balcony on riverside - sit there and enjoy - water is directly below. Attached restaurant (Captain's Landing) is a floating restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating - reasonable pricing, courteous staff and good food. Staff at Capt.

Thompson's very pleasant, rooms excellent, recently renovated. Free coffee 24-7 for patrons. Uncle Sam Boat Tours adjacent to resort - shopping in walking distance. Beautiful area - will definitely go back and am continually recommending to ALL! If you don't stay there, you'll regret it!

Breathtaking view from Captain Thompson's Resort

My fiance' and I had a wonderful time in Alexandria Bay! The people were all very polite and made us feel right at home!! We stayed at Captain Thompson's Resort with a 'main channel' view. It was breath-taking and we cannot wait to return next year!!!!

    Good location/services

Capt. Thompson's was fine, rooms clean and fairly up to date. My wife and I had a room on the main channel with a great view of Boldt Castle.

Would not advise rooms on marina side of building as tour boats dock there constantly.

This was our first trip to 1000 islands. A recommendation on restaurants. Stay away from the Admirals Inn on the main street. Also, Capts. Landing had a great view of river but food was so-so and service was poor. Coleman's Smokehouse was excellent. DockSider Bar dosen't look like much but was a great place for a casual meal. In general, this is a very quite area at night. Was suprized at lack of activity after 10 PM.

    Great View Friendly Staff

We stayed here after we booked into a different hotel in the area that was a terrible experiance the staff were very helpful and friendly and were sympathetic to our plite and managed to get us a room with an excellent view of the castle it was a great weekend and we will be returning.

    Loved the view

Capt. Thomson's Resort well worth the stay. View breathtaking of Boldt Castle and back porch was right on the river, also in the heart of the shopping area.

    Romantic Get-A-Way!

Was a FANTASTIC romantic get-a-way for me and my wife... We stayed in the room with a large hot tub..(jacuzzi).. Our back pourch over looked the bay and the short walk to all the reastaurants and stores was perfect. Bolt Castel was also across the bay just a wee bit and we could see it from our room and back pourch... The staff at Capt Thomson's Motor Lodge were the best... friendly and accomidating... Thanks for such a grand experience... we hope to visit again soon... signed David and Deb

    Walk to the Shops

Capt Thomson's is located right next to the busy marina where tour boats dock. One wing of the "U" shaped resort has rooms that are only a few feet from the busy dock. Passengers leaving and returning on a tour boat are so close that they can see right into the rooms on that side. There are no grounds at all, but the resort is located right at the end of the main street so shopping is convenient. There is also a nice restaurant at the resort and other restaurants within walking distance.

... Cuyahoga Park. We drive down to the marina, walk out to a point in the river to watch the boats, then return to eat some light dinner outside, enjoying the fresh cool air then adjourn for the night in the comfort of our home. Time to relax. Driving as much as we have in the past 3 weeks has worn us down a little. But we want to see as much as we can and also want to get up to Canada for as long as possible before the weather turns. Our "forced march" ...

When he finally listened long enough to receive proper instruction, he glanced up at the Captain on the fly-bridge because surely these females don't have a clue what they are talking about. At this point I jumped offboard, took the lines from his hands and not so pleasantly relived him off his assistance. The owners spent the rest of the evening laughing and retelling the story of Chef Clair screaming ...
