... no asphalt and big holes. We passed a stretch where part of the
road had broken down and the bus moved leaning very close to the abyss
on the sand road. I got a weird feeling in my stomach. If it wasn t for
the broken truck, we would have passed this passage during night without any
streetlight in complete darkness...The rest of the trip was uneventful and we arrived after 25h in Bukittinggi. Once it is over it is actually a big joke so I am curious what will come ...

I found what I wanted but in general they just sell a large quantity of **** and everywhere sells the same ****, bad quality cheap ****. I was a bit sick from the bus ride due to a lack of straight roads and it was really really hot and we began to get grumpy from heat and hassle. Later we discovered it was 31 degrees in the shade. Most of Indonesia is food stalls but here we could not find anywhere ...

Thursday’s lunch stop came after the climb on a farmland plateau at nearly 2000m up, on a local farm.  The son of the family that owned the farm spoke very good English, and he was very proud to show us his farm and ...

      Happy birthday Iuri!

We arrived in Bukittinggi on the eve of Iuri's birthday after the night bus that was another story altogether. To sum it up, the driver played music several times in the middle of the night, whenever it pleased him (to the point that we broke the speaker above our heads because we couldn’t take it anymore), we got a flat tire around 2am which took an hour to fix (Iuri went to check the tire, it was ...

... hitched a lift to Bayur further round the lake and hiked through the jungle up to the top of the caldera at Puncak Lawang (Lawang Top). It took two hours and was just a rough overgrown track nearly all the way that is obviously rarely used, if at all. Stopped half way for a rest at an abandoned log cabin only to find two leeches sucking merrily away on my left leg with another three stuck on my socks trying to get higher to join in ...
