      We are in the village of Canneto on Lipari in the Aeolian Islands. It is a picture perfect little fishing town by the sea centered by the Catholic Church with a few bars and trattoria.       ... stalls, and all sorts of festivities into the wee small hours. Our kids ran around through the party like mad things. They begged us to buy them balloons and plastic rubbish (which we did) and danced on one of the stages before we packed it in and went home to bed. Sitting here alone at 11pm listening to a beautiful aria waft in from the festival. Punctuated by the usual strident Italian voices of this place, it seems a world away from Yarraville. ...

      We took advantage of our mobility and drove up the coast to Cefalu today. We decided to just follow the signs and stick to the coast road. I can now honestly say that trying to navigate by sign and negotiate Sicilian small-town traffic is not an easy thing to do.       6 September All went well on the crossing from Naples. Kids slept well and nobody fell out of their bunks. Very early start, though, as the ferry docked at 6.30am. Gaetano was there to greet us and after I squeezed all our bags into his little Alfa (with the stroller across the laps in the back seat) he drove us through the bedlam of early Saturday traffic in Palermo.
