best, most relaxing place i have ever been. At this point in the trip (about 3/4 done... 90 days down) it was really nice to have such a calming vacation. This is NOT a very "ghanaian" spot: you won't see any ghanaians, unless you travel to the neighboring villages, you won't have the option to order fufu/banku/kenkey/red red/ground nut soup/palm nut soup/jollof rice/waakye, the fires you see will be intentional camp fires-not burning trash or grassland, the dog is a pet not a ...
Busua, Ghana ellebee88Greetings to all-

I arrived back to Accra yesterday afternoon after four wonderful days at the Green Turtle Lodge (www.greenturtlelodge.com). This eco-lodge came highly recommended and when I arrived last Wednesday I quickly learned why. Set on a picturesque beach near the fishing village of Akwidaa the guide book is correct when they call this a trap for visitors. The combination of beautiful ocean front views, wonderful food, friendly local staff and the community ...
Akwidaa, Ghana, Ghana sherrypace... is the title given to an Ashanti Chief. His palace is in the center of Kumasi a large concrete structure with a wide open courtyard area in the center and many rooms and apartments surrounding it. While the setting seemed very informal there was indeed formal protocol to handle. The Chief sat at the head of us with two rows of seats on each side; Rosina spoke in Twi and introduced each of us explaining why we all came to Ghana and our connections to Diana and ...
Sekondi-Takoradi, Western, Ghana sherrypaceWe decided to spend our last 3 days in Africa lazing around the beach, and caught the bus to the Western coast of Ghana. We arrived at the beach at night and were nicely surprised the next day to find a lovely unspoilt beach with a little fisherman's village on one side, and no one on the other, bar a long stretch of sand. All we did for 3 ...
Busua, Ghana natsandfrancois... to beach and going to come back to Kakume on our way to Accra. I think that's the plan. Drive along coast was gorgeous. Endless sparkling sea lined with palm trees with sets rolling in. Yay we have waves. Reminded both Oliver and I a lot of Sri Lanka as it was near identical to the beaches along the south coast. Pulled into Brenu Beach Resort around 1. Gorgeous place with little to no one else around located smack ...
Kumasi, Ghana oliveramber... and I killed a few hours before dinner. Knowing dinner usually arrives at least 45 minutes late on Fridays, we were shocked to have it rushed to us at 6pm on the dot. The girls in the kitchen made it even more special by providing us with cloth napkins. Napkins! I haven't seen one since I got here. Then to top it all off they served our last chocolate bananas almost immediately after clearing our dinner plates. Usually it is another ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdiva... trouble understanding the words through their thick accent, and when I speak quickly they have trouble understanding mine. But this guide spoke quite slowly so it was easy to understand. Since I have been here I have learned to talk a bit slower though I don't think slow enough. I think my skin is changing too. I am now slightly off-white around the ever increasing freckles. Victor, our project mentor, commented one day on how I have grown accustomed to Ghana's ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdivaI woke at 4am for the first light turtle watch. The sky was still very dark with no moon and few stars to brighten it. Emmanuel and I had to wake Annette as her alarm didn't go off. She sleeps in the dorm so I hesitated near the door, then decided to flash my torch into it so if I did wake anyone else it would seem more innocent. My trick worked and she was up and ready a few minutes later. Once we got going, the three of us walked down the beach ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdiva... wanting some. I shared it around them and then made sure I didn't get it back! The children were lovely and enthusiastic but surrounded by all sorts of nasty diseases so I wasn't taking any risks. The parade lasted about an hour before we thanked Emanuel for all his help and headed back to the lodge. Here, little critters scurry around from tree to tree. Nothing scary, just geckos and colourful lizards. Sometimes they chase each ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdiva... Pancakes. They were a bit of heaven. This was all happening right on the beach. While eating, we sat and watched the fishermen rowing in their pirogues, or big canoes, fighting the pull of the waves to get back onshore with the morning catch. Several boys and men row on a long canoe and have to go really fast to catch a wave into the shore. The fish were then taken out of the nets and brought up for the women to clean ...
