Back to our commoner's lives on the road again

... commoner's lives again by going to Hungry Jacks (Burger King) for lunch, stocked up at the supermarket, collected Queenie from 'storage' and then hit the road again. We ended up at the Jolimont campsite yet again and tried to relive the luxury pampering by dipping in their spa-pool..., but its just not the same. Went to bed wailing and sobbing over our Whitsunday break-up... maybe someday... somewhere... snore!

The rest of Australia......

... had constant trouble with my ears. I had trouble equalising them so they were quite painful. I had blood from my nose on my second dive and my ears were getting no better so I stuck to snorkelling after that. As it turned out I was very close to bursting my eardrums according to the pharmacist and was then on anti-inflammitorys for the next 2 weeks with my head sounding like I was in a bubble - very annoying. But they eventually sorted themselves out and I wouldn't want it so ...

Second leaving, Week 8-30 kms, $7.43 fuel

... generator from the motorhome and after a lot of swearing, cursing and kicking the dog (Harry), the generator was on the ground ready for inspection. On inspection, we found the bendix spring wasn’t working. The mechanism was as dry as a dead dingos dongo. So with some silicone spray and some oil, we freed up the mechanism, bolted the starter motor back onto the engine and reinstalled said generator back under the motorhome. More cursing and swearing and ...

Second leaving, Week 7-437 kms, $108.20 fuel

... have been very very hot.

As you can see by the heading at the top, this week has been a record in mileage for us and it was time to head on to Clairview Caravan Park to recharge our batteries as our generator has broken down. The solar panels can’t quite keep up with the daily needs and we lose 10% of our battery capacity each day, so after nine days we need to recharge, so until we get the generator fixed we will need to duck into CP’s for a ...

Giru to Sarina

... long train of cage like trucks each piled to the brim with cut cane.

Our camping neighbours were also reminiscing about cane burning, which Jen had been reading about earlier. In order to clear the cane fields of snakes, pests and diseases at harvest time, there developed a system of burning off the cane and harvesting what remained. How they avoid burning the actual crop we don't know and it was unclear from our friends' explanation. However, all were agreed that this ...

Rubyvale to Calen; back towards the coast

... a newspaper photo from the time of the flood.

We had decided to head back towards the coast as there seems to be more life there! We were glad that we had ventured inland to just experience how desolate it can be (and I gather that we only touched the edge of it!) but a couple of days was enough for us. As we started to get back towards civilisation there were acres and acres of sugar cane, a main crop for this area. At one ...

Near miss with a roo and some other odd fauna

A dunk island sick day spent at the spa!

... me and watching DVDs and my friends from the spa suggested I popped down and had a steam. It is so awesome just to be able to wake up walk down the hill to the spa of peace and plenty practically in my back garden and use there facilities for free plus have everyone you know in there look after you. We get a lot of their services very cheap to you can have a massage, facial etc for 50p a min and I had my eye lashes tinted and eyebrows waxed for £10. So the ...

Tis the season

... and drive each other nuts. Sometimes we get creative and think of fun little things to entertain us for 20 minutes, like paper, rock, scissors, but usually we just resort to sleeping (a lot) and often times drinking. The whole town may be shut down, and there's no where for us to get food, but the liquor store never fails. The first few days were miserable and we were fighting and driving each other crazy- mainly because it was something ...
